If you're scrambling for a last-minute gift for mom, and you aren't in Boston, calm down. Simply sending your mom a pretty bouquet of flowers with a hand-written note will be a good enough gesture. But if you want to go above and beyond for Mom (you don't have to but it would be nice, hint, hint), consider these hotel gift ideas:
Hotel Spa Treatment: Preferably at a hotel known for its spa facilities. While facials and massages are safe choices, you could also buy Mom a gift certificate so she can decide how she wants to spend the day at the spa.
Hotel Brunch: You can catch up with Mom over a leisurely (and maybe boozy) hotel brunch. Another alternative could be a hotel's high tea service.
Hotel Bathrobe: If she can't make it to her favorite hotel, you can send her one of the hotel's bathrobes.
Hotel Loyalty Points: If you've got points to spare, plop them in Mom's account so she can use it for her next stay.
Hotel Stay in a Room with a View: If you decide to gift mom with an overnight hotel stay, splurge a little extra for a room with a lovely view. Mom deserves it!
From a spa day to a brunch date, here's where to take mom.
Newsflash: Sunday is Mother’s Day. Hopefully, you already knew that. Otherwise, prepare for an hour spent scouring the detritus of the greeting card aisle for the one card left that still has a matching envelope. (Solution: Make your own with construction paper and glitter, “because a mom’s love always makes you feel like a kid again!” Good, right?)
If you’re still on the hunt for hotel-related stays, events and suggestions, we’ve rounded up a trio of ideas in Boston that might help. (We will have some other ideas for moms not in Boston shortly.) Whether you’re splurging on an overnight or just brunch, here are a few ways to make mom feel like a million bucks. Plus tax. And bring some money for the maid.
Oh, you did it again, didn't you? You forgot Mother's Day and it's end of day on Friday. So, what is your sorry self gonna do, child? There's only one solution. Feed your momma! And the best way to do it is by treating her to the time honored tradition of Mother's Day Brunch. We've got seven spots at our favorite hotel restaurants still taking razzes for May 12th. Be a good kid and book a table, whydontcha?
The Garden by David Burke, The James Hotel
Opened just last week in time for Mother's Day, this new rooftop garden restaurant is now one of the largest outdoor spaces in the city (1,000 square feet) and overlooks the bustling streets of SoHo. You've got two options at this master chef's eatery. The $42 prix fixe special is available in three-course or a la carte form. Choices include Chef Burke's specials such as the Lobster Scramble and the Pretzel Crusted Crab Cake. Naturally a mimosa or bloody Mary is included in the special, but you should ask to upgrade to the Bacon Bloody Mary made with bourbon, organic tomatoes, and maple bacon or the Bloody Apple, a blend of apple schnapps, organic tomato, and fresh apple. If you'd prefer something a bit different than brunch, now is the time to try the restaurants new Swine & Wine menu. For $39 per person, guests can choose from a variety of appetizers including gazpacho and fluke crudo, then moving on to suckling pig, and topping the meal off with either an ice cream sundae or pie-of-the-day.
Renaissance Hotels have partnered with Jose Garces, Food Network’s Iron Chef and the chef of Mercat a la Planxa inside the Renaissance Blackstone Chicago, to come up with a limited-edition Bloody Mary menu to honor mothers everywhere.
These bloody good drinks get their inspiration from some of the world’s most captivating cities and regions (where one can also find a Renaissance hotel of course: Chicago, Hong Kong, Miami, New Orleans, San Francisco, San Juan, São Paulo, Shanghai, and Tuscany).
Sip on Chi-Dog Juice featuring sweet pickle relish and yellow mustard, mimicking the famous Chicago hot dog of Chef Garces’ hometown; taste the zest of New Orleans with ‘Dat Eye Opener, with strong creole seasoning, horseradish and Worcestershire sauce; close your eyes and go to Hong Kong with the Bloody Pearl which includes Chinese black vinegar, Chinese hot sauce and ground caraway seeds; or float away to a tropical destination with San Juan’s Puerto Maria, a blend of Spanish onions, green bell peppers, cilantro and aijes dulces.

Cake is nice but a hotel stay is much sweeter.
As kids we showered mom on Mother’s Day with love, from the burnt but well-meaning breakfast to the glue-stained handmade card. Fast forward and our big kid selves may have slacked off a bit with cheesy e-cards, half-dead flowers, and even lame IOUs for our spouses. So, we’ve drummed up a few getaways you can still book to wow her on her special day.

Mother's Day is this weekend and you need to get her something pronto. Instead of giving her another tchotchke she doesn't need or an impersonal gift card, go all out and treat her to a swanky hotel brunch. Let her feast on everything from eggs Benedict and pancakes to champagne.
Check out our top five spots for Mother's Day brunch.
Mother's Day is this weekend, and if you're scrambling to do something nice for sweet old mom, a number of hotels have last-minute special offers tailored to your mother's personality. Whether your mother is a foodie, music lover or a British-style mum, these hotels will help you celebrate your moms on Sunday.
Check out which package fits your mom best after the jump.
UPDATE: We misunderstood the press release. Residence Inn will give the first 50 moms who check in a single rose. Not 50 roses to each mom. (Darnit. That's sorta what we were planning on doing next weekend!) Sorry for the misunderstanding.
You won't have to scramble to a florist on Mother's Day, wait in a long line and pay a ridiculous amount for a subpar bouquet if you go to a Marriott Residence Inn. The hotel will already have taken care of it!
That's because Marriott is giving 50 red roses to all moms who stay at a Residence Inn on May 9. Fifty red roses will surely impress your hard-to-please mom, and you won't even have to cough up extra dough to get the blooms. It'll cost $75 to $130 a night at the hotel—a bouquet of 50 roses could easily cost more than that.
Alright, we can probably quit it with the "yo momma" jokes (mostly because it is no longer 2002 and they are no longer the funny or cool thing), but as Mother's Day approaches just a few days 'til Sunday the 10th, kiddies we're gonna keep coming atchya with some last-minute Mother's Day deals.
This one comes from the super hip-n-trendy Standard Miami, whose spa is tres excellent but the rest of the hotel may have a super-trendy vibe that some of the, er, more tea-and-crumpets-type mothers may not take a liking to (we know our own mothers may not be so down for Standard-ish environs).
Every now and then, we'll be profiling hotels for $100 or less. Yay! Know of any other bargains? Send 'em to us.
If you didn't know, The Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix is part of the Hilton family of Waldorf-Astoria Collection Hotels, so for this luxury property (and host to every president except Obama), to have rooms going for $80 a night is kind of insane. But it's for real.
As part of a Mother's Day celebration and the Biltmore's 80th anniversary, the hotel is offering rooms for $80 for 80 hours. The special rate is only bookable for 80 hours starting yesterday and ending Friday, May 1, 2009. The rate is also only available for the dates of Friday, May 8 to Monday, May 11, 2009.
When we plugged in the Mother's Day weekend rates we actually found rooms for the rate of $69. Crazy! However, the resort does charge a $28 resort fee, bringing your nightly total to $97 a night. That fee includes include high-speed Internet, access to the fitness center, local, 800 and credit card calls, and a newspaper. To book, go to the Biltmore's special offers page and enter code MOM in Group/Convention code field.
If your mom may be more into an adventurous getaway than a peaceful retreat (or you're not sure which one she may want) for Mother's Day, consider this one: take the lady to New York, and treat her to both adventurous excursion-type activities and indulgent de-stressing pampering sessions.
Try out New York's Carlton on Madison Avenue's Moms on Madison Package, which promises to keep yo momma occupied (and you occupied as well, should you choose to join her). It includes one night at the lovely Carlton which boasts 42" flatscreens, Molton Brown toiletries and a nice location at 28th-ish and Madison plus a Swedish massage, a classic facial and continental breakfast for two. Plus, the hotel offers free WiFi (yay!) and round the clock room service. And! Mom can bring the dog, so long as its 25 pounds or less.
The package starts at $500, and is valid through the month of May. Bonus: Macy's is within walking distance. Oh yes. Take her shopping.
