Remember earlier this year, when the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group announced they would be creating the Radisson Red brand as well as the Quorvus Collection of hotels? Well, today we've got the names of the very first members of the Quorvus Collection.
They are the dandy May Fair Hotel in London, the G&V Royal Mile Hotel in Edinburgh (aka the Missoni Edinburgh Hotel) and the Symphony Style Hotel in Kuwait also formerly known as the Missoni Kuwait hotel. While the Missoni Hotel brand has gone away, it looks like the Missoni prints will remain for a little while longer. But there will be some design changes, according to this article which says that the Edinburgh property will get new Scottish-inspired designs from local designers. Not sure what's on tap for Kuwait.
While the Quorvus Collection looks like a convenient way to pick up the pieces after the end of Missoni, a press release has dished some more info on the collection and the interesting name:

Wow. What a sad way to end a good week--Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, on the heels of making announcements about their two new brands--have suddenly put the brakes on the Hotel Missoni brand. Here's the official statement:
The Rezidor Hotel Group and the Italian fashion house Missoni have mutually agreed to terminate the worldwide Master Licence Agreement for the development and operation of the brand Hotel Missoni, effective 31st December 2013. The existing properties Hotel Missoni Edinburgh and Hotel Missoni Kuwait will cease to operate under the marks of Hotel Missoni latest by 30th June 2014.
Well, guess we can scratch Missoni off the list of fashion-branded hotels that might open in Macau. Carlson Rezidor CEO Wolfgang M. Neumann said the decision was due to their new focus on the Radisson Blu and Park Inn brands and probably, their new brand for millennials, Radisson Red, and their new collection of hotels, The Quorvus Collection, aimed at parents of millennials.
Meanwhile Missoni CEO Alberto Piantoni said that the fashion house has "new strategic visions in the field of interior design and hospitality." So does this mean that Hotel Missoni might be resurrected somewhere else, possibly in an actual fashion capital like Milan, Paris or New York? We will keep our fingers crossed.

Just like hotels stacking a few different brands into urban skyscrapers,, multiple hotels combined into one massive resort seem to be a "thing" these days. We've seen it happening down in the Bahamas with Baha Mar hotel wonderland which will include Rosewood, Mondrian, Grand Hyatt and Melia hotels, along with the Baha Mar Resort and Casino. And now we will see it in Macau at Cotai with the Lisboa Palace which just recently broke ground. (It's opening next to Steve Wynn's new Wynn Palace.)
The destination, designed by firm WATG, will include the five-star Lisboa Palace with over 1,450 rooms, the Palazzo Versace Macau with up to 270 rooms and a "fashion-branded hotel", also with 270 rooms.
But what fashion brand could this be? Actually, the Palazzo Versace is from Donatella Versace and it will be a spin-off of her Gold Coast hotel. So the question really is--what other fashion-branded hotel could co-exist with Versace?
If you love the bright colors, gold leather sofas, designer-branded towels and bathrobes, and Maseratis of the Missoni Hotels, you are probably impatiently awaiting the new upcoming Turkey, Oman, Mauritius, Brazil and Doha properties from the fashion brand. In the meantime, if you can't get to the brand's first two properties -- in Edinburgh or Kuwait -- you can still get a sniff of the Missoni hotel experience via their new line of hotel amenities.

Mixology is masterful skill to have and bespoke bevvies are all the rage right now so it's no wonder that hotels around the world are putting together Create Your Own Cocktail offerings. We remember Tom Cruise flamboyantly throwing around bottles of liquor in "Cocktail" and thinking we could do that. It didn't turn out so well. Luckily, these hotels have come to the rescue.
Yesterday we gave you some of the best cocktail recipes to imbibe on your favorite hotel drinks in the comfort of your own home. What happens if you want to shake up your own concoction while on the road? Hit up these hotels who will happily welcome you behind the bar to create your own poison.

All this talk about IKEA getting ready to sweep Europe with a new chain of budget hotels got us thinking about some of the other cool brands out there. And it's a good thing there's so many of them—because while certain brands have managed to deliver on their promises, others have yet to open a single property. And yet we still remain hopelessly glued to the screen...
Take a look at these six other hotel brands we're most excited about, and see which openings are coming to a theater near you.
The world finally exhaled when Virgin made the announcement that the location of its first-ever hotel would be in Chicago. It's going to have a modest 250 rooms, and it will open in the city's historic Dearborn Bank Building, which will hopefully make good on Richard Branson's promise that all Virgin properties will become "the hippest most comfortable in any city." Well, sir, we'll hold off on judgment until we see one actually open. Construction began in May, with a projected opening date of Fall 2013.
Parent hotel company, Rezidor, along with the Al Jassim Group announced that the 220-room hotel will be exclusively designed by Rosita Missoni, the matriarch who founded Missoni along with her husband in 1953. And it looks like the rest of the Missoni signature hotel offerings will also be in place.
The extensive food and beverage outlets will comprise Hotel Missoni's signature restaurant "Cucina" with a traditional yet creative Italian menu, a second all-day-dining restaurant, Bar Missoni, a pool bar and a lobby lounge. The food and beverage offering will be further enhanced by a number of distinguished fine dining restaurants providing a variety of culinary tastes incorporating the luxurious and stylish essence of the Hotel Missoni brand. Guests will benefit from an 800 square meter Spa- and fitness area, an outdoor swimming pool, approximately 1,500 square meter conference- and banquet facilities including ball room, and a business centre.
After taking on Edinburgh and Kuwait as well as planting their stylish chevron flag in Oman, Turkey and Brazil, the Hotel Missoni brand is heading to yet another exotic, far-flung destination--Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
Parent company Rezidor Hotels just announced today that the Hotel Missoni Mauritius will open in 2014 overlooking the village of Baie du Cap with 80 luxury suites, unobstructed ocean and beach views and of course, all the Missoni goodness you can imagine. (Actually, you don't have to imagine you can peep a hotel room at the Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh, thanks to us.)
The fashionable hotel will also feature the Hotel Missoni's signature Cucina restaurant, an authentic Italian cafe called Choco Cafe, an all-day dining restaurant, a lounge bar and a beach/pool bar.
Tomorrow in Kuwait City, the second-ever Hotel Missoni will open its doors, almost two years after the original wowed with its masterfully clashing interiors in Edinburgh, Scotland. Like Edinburgh, the Kuwait hotel will be filled to the brim with objects from the Italian Missoni fashion brand, everything from the coffee cups from which you drink to the decorative pillows you toss off your bed at night. And it's going to have complimentary Maserati chauffeur service from the airport, too. Hellowhen can we check in?
Unfortunately for us, the hotel is in Kuwait, which isn't a destination we get around to very much. Edinburgh is a far easier jaunt, but to allay our curiosity, the Missoni has been kind enough to send along some sneak peek, pre-opening snapshots of the lobby, rooms and other public areas. And of course the gold leather sofas...
Weeeee! The Hotel Missoni Kuwait finally has an official, locked-down opening date andyesreservations are open and working. The second-ever Missoni Hotel is due to debut with views over the Arabian Gulf on March 1, and although rooms starts $450, there's a 20% off Advance Booking rate still in effect that brings it down to $361 per night.
So why is this hotel so important? Well, we actually made a detour on a trip to London up to Scotland for the specific purpose of personally checking out the first of the Missoni Hotelsthe Missoni Hotel Edinburghand we loved it, even naming the video tour of the room our Best Hotel Video Tour of 2010.
What's more is that the Missoni Hotels are pioneering a kind of all-inclusiveness that we wish every upscale hotel would adopt as well, and that's tacking on freebies like complimentary WiFi, in-room movies, a few items of laundry, the (non-alcoholic) contents of the minibar, and, with some rates, even complimentary breakfast.
It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2010 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in comments below.
Our own JetSetCD made a special detour to Edinburgh on her UK travels at the start of 2010 specifically to spend the night at this hotel. Here's what she thought:

Edinburgh...Kuwait...Oman...Brazil. The list of current and under-construction Missoni Hotels is an exotic one, and today we can add another city to the list: Antalya, Turkey. 2013 will bring a Missoni Hotel to the Turkish Riviera, and although this one will follow the pattern of the other Missoni by having the interior personally designed by Rosita Missoni, its exterior will differ greatly. It's going to have a celebrity-designed golf course!
Hotel MIssoni Belek, Antalya is bringing in Swedish golf champ Annika Sörenstam to create the 18-hole course, which will be just one of the attraction in the development around the hotel; there'll also be a country club, shops, residential villas and an olive grove. That last bit sounds much closer to Missoni's Italian heritage than gray days in Edinburgh.
