Score Marriott Rewards Elite Status Twice as Fast in June

June 4, 2009 at 1:29 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

You know how we keep reminding you to sign up for all the loyalty programs that you possibly can in order to get the most out of your busy, sometimes-expensive travel schedule? We're also going to recommend that you maybe set up a separate email account with an address that you use exclusively for all your loyalty program signups — 'cause, uh, 'tis the season for the loyalty program promotions from all the different chains to be comin' atchya fast and furious.

All these summertime loyalty program promos are sort of making our heads spin — and, yeah, they're kinda blurring together, aren't they? Still, here's another one, which is coming out of Marriott Rewards this week: the Double Nights Promotion, which is (as they're spinning it) a way to earn elite status twice as fast.

From now through June 26, 2009, Marriott Rewards members who register for the promotion will receive two nights for every one night they stay, so they can hit the elite levels quickly.

Ten nights earns you Silver status; 50 nights earns you Gold status and you hit Platinum when you've racked up 75 nights. Oh! And these days, once you hit any of the elite statuses (that's Silver, Gold or Platinum), any unused extra night you've earned at the end of 2009 will automatically be transferred to your 2010 account. You know, like the cellphone rollover minutes.

Register for the Marriott Rewards loyalty program here; hit up the Double Nights promo registration here. Call us when you attain Baller Status.

Marriott Hops Aboard the Summertime Free-Stay Bandwagon

May 12, 2009 at 11:43 AM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

Let's take a hot minute to mourn all the money the hotel industry lost during the recession. And...now, let's take a hot minute to celebrate all the kickass deals the disastrously bad economy has brought to hotel guests such as ourselves. Remember that Earn a Free Weekend Night for Every Two Starwood Stays" deal that is running all summer?

Yes, well: Marriott has hopped aboard the bandwagon and is now getting into the free-nights every-couple-stays trend — and this is a pretty sweet deal. Marriott Rewards members score a free night in a category 1-4 hotel after they stay three times at any of 3,000 participating hotels under the Marriott umbrella between June 1st and August 31st (the nights don't have to be consecutive, and they don't have to be in the same hotel). You have to be a Marriott Rewards member (but you can be any level) and you have to register for the promotion at MarriottRewards.com — officially, it's called "Summer Promotion" if you're looking for it on the website.

Members must register between May 12 and June 30, and once you earn your free night, you need to redeem it by December 31, 2009. Also, take note: if you're registered to earn airline miles instead of points with the loyalty program, you need to switch your preference to points to earn the free night.

Hotel Loyalty Program News: Marriott Rewards Lets You Ship Your Luggage

July 1, 2008 at 11:04 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

While it's not quite a cash-back incentive for travelers who have to pay the new checked baggage fees, Marriott's loyalty program, Marriott Rewards has teamed up with The Luggage Club to allow its members to use their points to ship luggage.

Travelers' baggage can be picked up at their home, office or location of choice and delivered to their final travel destination, and returned again at the end of their trip. Plus, The Luggage Club has no limits on size, weight or number of pieces that can be shipped.

The Luggage Club however is not cheap. We checked rates to ship a 70lb upright bag from LA to NJ and the cheapest rate was about $245. And that was for our bag to be in transit for five days on either end of the trip.

Marriott Rewards points can be used as gift cards in increments of $50, $100, $250 and $500. So you might not be able to pay for all of that bag shipping but you can probably get a nice discount.
