The Standard Comes Through To Help Those Displaced In NYC's East Village

March 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

A photo posted by The Standard (@thestandard) on

New York City was jolted yesterday when a gas line exploded in the East Village, causing a massive fire and a building collapse, and leaving 19 people seriously injured and many others displaced.

But unlike Hurricane Sandy when hotels were price gouging citizens and visitors stuck in the city or displaced by the storm, at least one hotel is helping its neighbors out. The Standard East Village NYC are offering a free stay to those affected by the disaster.

Released simply with an Instagram post they are offering those displaced by the situation between 119-125 2nd Avenue a complimentary three-night stay. It doesn’t look there’s any strings attached or any other hoops to jump through, as they just ask that your swing by with a proof of address.

Neighbors helping neighbors gives us some pretty good warm and fuzzies on this Fridays, and maybe even more so with those Italian sheets and down pillows over at The Standard.

Tommie Hudson Square Accepting Reservations for October 1 (And There are Room Photos Too!)

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 231 Hudson Street [map], New York, NY, United States
March 23, 2015 at 2:48 PM | by | Comment (1)

You guys. Omg. tommie hotels, the eagerly anticipated millennial hotel brand from Commune Hotels, finally have a real deal hotel website up, complete with room photos of tommie Hudson Square, amenity descriptions and a working reservations system.

The website is currently taking reservations for October 1 starting at $245.67 a night, although the hotel could open earlier since "Summer 2015" was the last official word. But let's put the opening date specifics aside for a moment and focus on what's inside the hotel.

To show off what they are all about, tommie has the ultimate millennial video , which shows a millennial couple entering the room and doing a quick fall-onto-the-bed-together move. Then the dude, who has in-between beard growth and enviable hair pulled back into a low but short ponytail sits on the bed and strums a guitar while his hot girlfriend captures the results of her vision board on her iPhone. Then the two of them put on their jackets (he: a smart casual suit jacket; she: a to-die-for leather biker jacket) and head out the door. Not before checking themselves out in the mirror, though. Really, all that's missing is a selfie photo shoot.

After a bunch of clicking, you'll finally get to the room amenities and room descriptions for the tommie Hudson Square property, although we suspect the features will be present in other tommie hotels, especially the one that's planned for NYC's NoMad nabe.

Here's what you can expect in the room at tommie:

March 20, 2015 at 5:28 PM | by | Comment (1)

Are you a billionaire searching for an elegant stay in New York? Well, you're in luck. The first-ever Baccarat Hotel has officially opened in New York.

The hotel’s Grand Salon, Petit Salon, Bar and guest rooms opened on Wednesday (about two weeks behind schedule) while the Chevalier Restaurant and the Spa de La Mer, the first of its kind in North America (and as in the Creme de la Mer moisturizer celebrities swear by) set to open in the near future.

Classic king rooms are still open this weekend and are going for $729 a night, with Grand king rooms for $844 a night while the 850-sq.ft. Prestige Suite is about $2,379 a night.

You can read more about what's inside these luxe hotel rooms here but if you have to ask what $729 a night will get you, then obviously you don't belong here. #kidding #kinda

The Sofitel New York Will Be Doing Good While Smelling Good

This might sound like an oxymoron but tomorrow is the United States' own National French Bread Day, which will celebrate all French bread, from baguettes to croissants, viennoiseries and more (Cronuts probably not included.)

One of the Frenchest hotels in the U.S., The Sofitel New York at 45 West 44th Street, is celebrating the day (which is also the first day of spring, although the weather in NYC looks otherwise) by turning their private dining room at their brasserie, Gaby, into a pop-up boulangerie serving 15 different kinds of French bread and French pastries.

Even better than the fresh bread smells that are sure to waft through the hotel, the cost of the bread will be just $1, with all of the proceeds going to City Harvest, a food rescue organization that helps feed more than 1.4 million in-need New Yorkers. Donations beyond $1 are also accepted.

In case you want to wake up with the fresh bread tomorrow morning, rates at the Sofitel tonight start at $241. while rates for tomorrow night, when the bread might not be as fresh, start at $267.

The Waldorf Astoria Will Lose Its Towers As Well As Its Old Decor

Many have spent the night with old lady Waldorf, but few have owned her – until now. Because the new owners of the Waldorf Astoria New York, Chinese company Anbang Insurance Group, which finally sealed the deal last month, have announced that they’ll be converting some of the rooms into condos.

The rooms in question are in the Waldorf Towers, which currently operate as a hotel-within-a-hotel on the 27th-42nd floors of the building, with suites and apartments accessed via a separate entrance. (They’re “somewhat nicer” than the notoriously in-need-of-help rooms in the main building, according to our secret correspondent.) According to Wu Xiaohui, the company chairman, the plan is “to renovate the two towers into luxury residential apartments with world-class amenities and finishes to reflect its culture and social status.”

The New York Edition Hotel Will Open in May, With a Three Month Opening 'Festival'

February 25, 2015 at 2:07 PM | by | Comments (4)

The long-awaited, eagerly anticipated New York Edition, inside the historic Clock Tower building at Madison Square Park, is going to need a little bit more time.

After reservations for Miami opened last fall, word was that the New York Edition would open in April, but looking at the hotel's website today, we found this:

JUNE. But don't put away your Platinum Amex card just yet.

Master hotelier and Edition visionary, Ian Schrager has told HotelChatter that the hotel will actually open on May 11, with a grand opening on May 12. He promises this will NOT be a soft opening but that the hotel will be "totally ready." Even better, Schrager said there will be a "three-month festival of events to celebrate. This completes the trilogy of three hotels originally owned by Marriott: Miami, London and NY." (These hotels are actually being sold off now.)

Sad as we are about even a slight delay, this is probably a smarter time to open. I mean, have you seen New York lately? With the kind of winter they are having, it's better to wait it out. So May will be the perfect spring awakening. The days will be longer, the skirts will be shorter, the sweaters will be thinner, and most importantly, the moods will be happier. But you better hope your wallets are thicker.

Rates for a 265-sq.ft. superior room at the New York Edition will start at $725 a night, which is actually in line with many high-end luxury properties in NYC. A gorgeous-looking Loft Suite is going for $1,000 a night and has views of Madison Park. Whatever the room, all guests will get free WiFi, bottled water and no doubt, a crazy cool curated minibar.

The Gregory NYC is The Next Man Who Wants to Sleep With You

The The Gregory.

There will be another man to sleep with in Manhattan this Spring. No, sorry, it's not a real man but rather a manly hotel.

The practice of giving a hotel a man's name has been all the rage for the past few years and NYC seems to be leading the pack with The Paul, Archer, The William, The Roger Smith and The Marlton. Now comes, The Gregory NYC, opening in May.

The 132-room hotel was previously known as Hotel 35 at 42 West 35th Street. But way before that, in 1903 when it first opened, the hotel was known as The Gregorian. Its sole purpose back then was to house the overflow of its sister hotel, The Waldorf-Astoria. (The Waldorf was previously located on the spot of where the Empire State Building now stands.) Interestingly, The Gregory's sister hotel today is The Renwick, which will open near Grand Central Terminal this summer.

Nevertheless, its this turn of the century history that is influencing the hotel's renovation today:

We’ve called out the Waldorf Astoria New York for the good (honoring room rates from long ago today) and the bad (cough – the rooms – cough) of its long history. That the hotel has seen a few things in its century-plus tenure is undeniable, and you can now take a walk back in time through its online archive.

The St Regis NYC Has a New Bentley Fleet, Especially for 2015

February 11, 2015 at 9:05 AM | by | Comments (0)

House cars. There are Rolls Royces. There are vintage beauties. There are Bentleys.

And then there are the Bentleys that go out of date and get replaced by a new fleet of Bentleys, so swish is the hotel that they work for. The hotel in question? The St Regis New York.

Running a little later than the year, the St Regis has just unveiled its “2015 Bentley fleet” (because the 2014 Bentley fleet is over). It’s not just any Bentley fleet, either; this is one with a separate car for day and night (the only Bentley house car service in the world to do this, although if you have enough money to buy a fleet of Bentleys, why wouldn’t you switch them up when night falls?).

The Baccarat New York to Open on March 2 at $729 a Night

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 20 West 53rd Street [map], New York, NY, United States, 10019
February 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

When we last glimpsed the glitz behind the forthcoming Baccarat Hotel in New York, rooms were going for around $800 a night on the suspected opening date of March 23.

But now, in checking the hotel's website, we see that the hotel will actually be open on March 2. And the price has dropped down a bit to $729 for a classic king. Here's what you'll get for that rate, aside from the glittery Baccarat decor:

The Classic King’s refined palette of champagne, ivory, platinum, stainless steel and chocolate brown feels both classic and contemporary, setting off such considered accents as cashmere throws, marble-topped nightstands and hand-painted panels, plus Baccarat crystal sconces and tabletop pieces. Crisp white custom-made Mascioni jacquard linens cover the beds, and delicacies from Parisian gourmet shop Fauchon fill Baccarat-red enamel minibars. In the white-marble bathrooms, meanwhile, Italian robes await and amenities created exclusively for the hotel by Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris abound.

Guests will also be able to control their lighting, climate, entertainment and more by a tablet, which will also be wired into housekeeping, valet, a 24-hour concierge and in-room dining. Another cool touch is that the oversized, flat-screen TVs are "concealed within smoked mirrors." Sounds very "Fifty Shades of Grey" and we like it.

The steep rate, fortunately, does include complimentary WiFi. #richpeoplelikefreeWiFitoo
