It's Easy To Get A Free Hotel Room These Days, Especially If Your Name Is Don Draper

Howard Johnson must have realized it's not such a good look denying Don Draper...well, anything. And so, after last week's episode which portrayed the Man Men character driving off to a HoJo in Plattsburgh, NY with his new wife Megan, and being denied access to the hotel's pool, the company has decided to make up for their error.
Anybody who was actually born with the name Don Draper will receive a free night at a participating Howard Johnson this summer. It's the hotel's way of saying 'sorry' to all the Don Drapers of the world—even though, in real life, they never did anything wrong. Then again, we're not complaining. If we knew someone who was named Don Draper (and, very sadly, we don't), we'd be all over this like a spoon on orange sherbet.

Planking is So Over. It's All About Mad Men 'Draping' Now.
As if you aren't being bombarded with ads for the new season of AMC's Mad Men, there's now also a viral stunt making its way around the social networks. It's called Draping, and the idea is simple: mimic Don Draper's pose in the famous Mad Men graphic (with his arm slung over a seatback, a cigarette casually perched between fingers), and post the pic with the hashtag #draping.
If you do some #draping in hotels & want to share, include @hotelchatter in your tweet or instagram, and we'll post some next week!
The character of Don Draper is no newbie when it comes to hotels, and one property that's been around since the days of "Ad Men" is super excited over the whole #draping thing:

Crosby Street Hotel Got Taken Over By the Mad Men Premiere (And No, We Weren't Invited Either)

Believe it or not, the Crosby Street Hotel's screening room once in a while gets used for something other than weekly Sunday night film club gatherings. Like on Monday night, when a glitzier-than-thou crowd showed up for the season premiere of Mad Men, which the rest of us won't get to watch for another four days.
This now brings our itinerary of stops on the unofficial Man Men Worldwide Hotel Tour to a grand total of five! So far, we've counted Roosevelt New York (where Don Draper lives in Season 2), The Belvedere Hotel in Baltimare and the Millenium Biltmore in LA (the show filmed inside both hotels), Soho Hotel (where Jon Hamm got a little racy during a recent newspaper interview), and now, the Crosby Street Hotel.

It's A Mad, Mad World Over At the Roosevelt New York

The Roosevelt New York knows you've just been counting down the hours for the new season of Mad Men to start. And in between (or maybe in addition to) playing 60s dress-up and sneaking the odd blood mary at your desk, here's yet one more way to step into the Mad Men world.
Never one to miss an opportunity for gimmicks or contests, the Roosevelt has launched a "Mad Men In the City" package, running from now until June 31. The behind-the-scenes experience includes tickets to the Paley Center for Media, a Mad Men cookbook, 60s-inspired cocktails, and the season four DVD, all of which will likely have die-hard Don Draper fans foaming at the mouth.
Of course, this is also simply a way for the hotel to show off some of its recently renovated guest rooms—the new look is supposed to be going for "chic, NYC lifestyle"...we'd say Mad Men's pretty much got both of those covered.

Listen To a Steamy Voicemail Greeting Jon Hamm Recorded At the Soho Hotel in London

Mad Men is indeed coming back on March 25 for a two-hour season premier (are you excited yet?), but if that's just a little too long to wait, here's a bit of Jon Hamm hotel gossip to fill the void.
Metro newspaper was sitting down for an intimate interview with the star on Valentine's Day at the Soho Hotel in London. And something about the hotel's snug vibe must have had everyone feeling pretty relaxed, because the next thing they knew, Hamm had been convinced to record a seductive voicemail greeting—in Hungarian. The editor (who is male, we should point out) explains:
"[Sundance Channel] arranged the interview. It took place in a room at London’s stunning Soho Hotel. Hamm sat on a plush couch, near the bottom of the bed, and answered my questions thoughtfully. It was every woman’s dream."

The Chatwal Can't Wait For Mad Men To Premiere In March

Folks at The Chatwal (now a Luxury Collection hotel) are so excited about the season five premier of Mad Men, they've gone ahead and launched a brand spankin' new Mad Men luxury package for guests—despite the fact that episodes won't even hit the airwaves until mid-March 2012.
Controversy surrounding the new season has been circulating for a while now, and it was only two weeks ago that the official production schedule get released. So filming starts today. But in as little as three weeks, future Chatwal guests will start enjoying Old-Fashions and 90-minute massages as part of the package.

Maybe Don Draper Could Use the 'Mad Men' Package at The Pierre to Cheer Himself Up

Yes, this looks pretty much like a room belonging to Don Draper.
We were all excited for the fourth season of Mad Men but now that it's here, we're feeling a little blue--or rather brown and yellow, the main colors of Don Draper's depressing bachelor apartment.
Perhaps what we need (and Don Draper too) is a night in a suite at The Pierre in New York complete with a bottle of champagne, a $150 credit for the Two E bar/lounge or in-room dining, along with the first two seasons of "Mad Men" so we can relive the good old days.
"A Mad Affair at The Pierre" runs until September 6 and starts at $970 a night, a price that Lane Pryce would have issues with. If you don't care what Lane says, have Joanie call 1-800-743-7734 to make a reservation. Good news for Don? The Pierre does have smoking rooms available.
Want a Mad Men themed stay in New York that's a little more affordable. The Carlton on Madison and 29th has a "Mad About NYC" package for $180 a night. Read the detes here.

Hotels Are Going Mad for Mad Men's Fourth Season

Shut the door and have a seat. And fix us a drink while you're at it. Smoke? Don Draper returns to us once again on Sunday night when the fourth season of Mad Men premieres on AMC. And where there is a Don Draper, there is usually a forbidden tryst in a hotel room, which is why hotels loooooove Don Draper.
Here's a bunch of hotel events happening for the premiere as well as just general love for the series. We'll be keeping close watch on the Mad Men hotels this season and adding to this space here but if have any hotel-related Mad Men tips or news, send 'em to us here.
1. W Times Square: Mad Men Drinks at The Living Room Bar
From 7 to 11pm this Sunday, guests and locals can pop into the hotel's Living Room bar for 60s-style cocktails named after Mad Men characters. Drinks are just $10 and include The Draper (Old Fashioned); The Holloway (Tom Collins); The Campbell (Manhattan) and The Olsen (White Russian). A DJ will also be on hand spinning tunes from 1964. But you may want to scurry back to your rooms/apartments at 10pm when the show airs on AMC.

Baltimore's Belvedere Hotel Lives On in 'Mad Men'

If you’re still sad that the Mad Men package at the St. Regis was canceled, here’s an ever-so-tiny piece of Mad Men hotel news that might brighten your day, at least a bit. The season three premiere features….a trip to the classic Belvedere Hotel in Baltimore!
(Yes, like the rest of America, we've gone Mad Men mad.)Since the Beaux-Arts Belvedere was converted to luxury condos way back in 1991, this is about the easiest way to see the hotel in its carefully researched, 1960s-era glory (unless, of course, you’ve got a thing for old archives).
At the heart of the episode is a business trip Don Draper ( Jon Hamm) and Salvatore Romano (Bryan Batt) take to Baltimore to do a little hand holding with one of their agency's clients, the father and son team running the company making London Fog raincoats.
The episode is titled "Out of Town," and it is written by series creator Matthew Weiner, who was born in Baltimore and attended Park School before his family moved to Los Angeles.
The Baltimore trip dominates the episode, with Don and Salvatore shacking up (no, not together! er, at least not that we’re aware of) at the Belvedere Hotel and dining at now-shuttered Baltimore institution Haussner’s.
Sigh. Just another reason we can’t wait for our Draper-and-friends fix come Aug. 16.

Don't Forget Your Pen Necklace: 'Mad Men' Party at the Roosevelt Hotel

The Mad Men Package at the St. Regis NYC may have been cancelled but it looks like New Yorkers will have a place to show off their best "Mad Men" costumes as the Roosevelt Hotel is hosting a season three premiere party inside their Madison Club Lounge on Sunday, August 16.
The bar here was a favorite amongst the Sterling Cooper crew in the first two seasons (it's located at 45th and Madison) and now guests can come in costume to watch the show inside the lounge on flat-panel TVs. And you don't even need to make a reservation.

Pour Us a Stiff One: The Mad Men Package at the St. Regis Gets Cancelled

Man, do we wish we had little bars in our "offices" right now. This Examiner pointed out that they could not book the Mad Men package at the St. Regis New York that we wrote about the other week.
In fact, the Examiner was told via a hotel PR person that the package was canceled. Hmm...we guess our notice about the package being canceled must have gotten lost in the mail. But hotel's pr firm did confirm this for us as well today.
As we stated back then, the package was available for Sunday nights from August 16 to November 8, starting at $895 for a whole of Mad Men-inspired amenities. The press release also said to call Denise Hartnett at 212-339-6738 for reservations and we realize that we did not put that last bit in, which was our fault. But still, we wish we would have been alerted when they canceled it.
Either way, it's a shame. We really loved the idea of Draper-ing it up at the hotel. Guess we'll just have to watch the season three premiere in our Mad Men costumes at home instead.
