The Bowery Hotel Loves You Sydney Fife

January 6, 2010 at 5:03 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We're guessing "I Love You Man" actor Jason Segel isn't going to be using the name of Sydney Fife to check into the Bowery Hotel anymore, thanks to this gossip item, but it was fun while it lasted. The NY Daily News reports:

Jason Segel knows how to keep a low profile when he's in our fair city: We hear the funnyman uses the name of his character in "I Love You, Man" when he stays at the Bowery Hotel. "He checks in under Sydney Fife," says a source, who reveals that Segel uses the pseudonym when he has a rendezvous with a prominent upper East Side socialite.

Any idea on the mystery UES socialite? Tip us off. (Please, we pray it's not Tinsley Mortimer.)

Lohan Gets It On (Allegedly) With Gerard Butler at Morocco Hotel Opening

Whatever Halloween horrors you saw this weekend, we doubt it can have been much worse than what Gerard Butler might just have woken up to yesterday morning.

According to the Mirror, Gerard had escaped all those cheap tacky parties in LA to go to the opening night of Sol Kerzner’s swish new Mazagan Beach Resort near Casablanca.

Unfortunately for him, it turned out a bit cheap and tacky anyway, as dear old Lindsay Lohan was among the fellow guests. And apparently, after a couple of bevvies, they went through the old dancin’-flirtin-kissin’ routine at the hotel’s new nightclub, Sanctuary, before “leaving the party together in a golf buggy.” A smooth touch there, Gerard. Really smooth.

Lindsay Lohan Loves The Plaza Athenée But Not as Much as Herself

The Terrace Eiffel Suites at The Plaza Athenée.

Nothing Lindsay Lohan ever tweets about really makes sense, except when she's trying to promote her 6126 leggings line, her Sevin Nyne spray tan lotion and her work for the fashion house of Emanuel Ungaro and even those tweets aren't all that well-crafted. The same goes for her tweets about hotels too. The other day she tweeted:

I love Emanuel Ungaro and I miss Paris and the Plaza Athenée

This was followed by a picture link which we eagerly clicked because we thought it would be a pic of her room at the luxury hotel but alas, it was just a pic of her attempting to look seductive. Boo.

Fortunately, we still have these killer views that a tipster sent us last month that we can drool over.

Lindsay Lohan Skips The May Fair and Heads for Blakes Hotel

When Lindsay Lohan checked into the May Fair hotel for her current stay in London, we felt a bit miffed. Mainly because we’ve had a bit of a downer on the hotel since we read last week that it’s letting superbrat Peaches Geldof stay there for a fraction of its normal £330-a-night cost, and throwing free food and booze at her while she’s at it.

Because she’s a name worth having? Hardly. Somehow, she’s wormed her way onto their “ambassador scheme”, which doles out the perks on the basis that she plugs them and their ”ludicrously comfy beds” wherever possible.

Seeing as LiLo is in a different celeb stratosphere to Peaches, it irked us that she was staying there while the place was tainted by the Geldof numbskull. So we were very pleased to see that, according to thelondonpaper*, Lindsay has twice in the past week skipped the May Fair for Blakes Hotel in Kensington, which has been playing host to her ladylove.

Don’t blame her. Although let’s hope LiLo isn’t on the ambassador scheme too – the May Fair might not be getting their money’s worth if she is…

LiLo Lays Low At The Wailea Beach Marriott

Occasionally, we take some time to sit around and think about the possibility that we may become famous overnight, and the possibility that such fame could lead to a Britney or LiLo-esque breakdown or, at the very least, a one-night meltdown that is not-so-epic but still notable. Said meltdown could be triggered by a bad breakup or one-too-many run-in's with paparazzi, and preceded immediately by a head-shave or an ill-advised, highly-publicized affair. But when we are famous and we do have that breakdown, which hotel are we going to retreat to?

Luckily, Lindsay Lohan is out in the field doing some research for us and — fresh off her highly-publicized bad breakup with girlfriend Samantha Ronson and, um, highly-publicized turbulent life as of late — has flown to Hawaii to kick it at the Wailea Beach Marriott. From the volumes of pap shots that continue to emerge, showing her chillin' by the pool and appearing to not be completely devastated, the big, grand breakdown may have already happened and she may be in recovery or on the upswing — which is cool too.

We've gotta admit we were a bit surprised that our Lindsay didn't select the way-posh Four Seasons Maui as her Hawaiian getaway destination of choice, but this is a good pick, too: the property is nestled between two beaches and boasts several pools on property, including a new infinity-edged "Serenity" Pool. Yes. Serenity is good for her. We assume she's staying in a suite here, and those start at $589.00 this summer.

Lohan Returns to Business as Usual at Chateau Marmont

Whew. You had us all worried for a second there, Chateau Marmont. We thought things were dying down and cleaning up and that the celeb meltdown scene was moving — shockingly — over to the Sunset Tower, Roosevelt and even the Avalon. But no. Now LiLo's back on the scene to keep things celebby-scary at the Marmont.

According to Perez, the newly-single (or so we hear) Lindsay Lohan is back to her old antics at the Chateau:

Apparently, after her entry to Charlotte Ronson's fashion party at Bar Marmont was barred, LOLhan tried to crash another all-girl party at the hotel, where the Ronson's were at and she booked a room.

[...] After introducing herself and encouraging them all to party, the party patrons attempted to get rid of the train wreck, shoving her out the door. LOLhan banged on the door for a minute before getting the hint and crawling off somewhere.

Oy. Lindsay, we love you, won't you please listen to Jaunted and go on an awesome, relaxing vacay somewhere? Seriously, our sweet, caring brother picked out places for you and everything.

'The Parent Trap' Remake Filmed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey

As we were recuperating from illness in bed on Friday night, we found ourselves watching (and Tivo-ing for later) the good, the bad and the incredibly cheesy movies from the past. (Coyote Ugly anyone?) And amidst this sadfest, we found ourselves watching The Parent Trap remake with Lindsay Lohan and the late Natasha Richardson who passed away last week after a tragic fall on the ski slopes in Montreal of Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Gotta love the Encore channel's timeliness touch.

Aside from watching Richardson, we were also captivated by the young Lohan. It's hard to believe with all her recent tabloid drama these days, that she was actually once a precocious little red-headed child. They do grow up fast.

But what also got our hotel geek radar going was a hotel pool scene which we instantly recognized as The Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey.

'Housewives' Simon Van Kempen Offers Advice on Hotel Careers

March 17, 2009 at 5:28 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· Remember Simon Van Kempen?: He's one of the "Real Housewives of NYC's" hubby who also is the general manager of the Hotel Chandler in Murray Hill. On his family's website he has begun addressing his career as a hotel manager and offered this advice to anyone how wants to work in the biz:

Since season 1 started airing I’ve received many emails from students considering embarking on a similar career path and I can say that it’s an industry that through hard work, a commitment to guest service and the ability to continually juggle different demands can be tremendously rewarding. One of the best things I learned through my own experience is that you can only learn so much in a college environment and there really is no substitute for on the job learning.

After listing some of his hotel experience (mostly F&B and then accounting) he goes on to talk about his favorite menswear designers. Although we are wondering who put him in that brown leather jacket. Blech.

In other news:
· Top Model Auditions Will Go On: Despite the stampeded that erupted outside the Park Central Hotel on Saturday, auditions for "America's Next Top Model" will still go on, says Tyra Banks. [NY Times]
· Spend a Night in Ice, Win a Ticket to Space: The Ice Hotel in Sweden is now selling tickets for Virgin Galactic's space trips. Those should start in 2012 and the tickets cost $200,000. No joke. [AP News]
· W Fort Lauderdale Close to Opening: The opening date is now set for April 2nd. [Sun-Sentinel]
· La Lohan Loca is Back!: Hotels, guard your suites and now, apparently your walls. Lindsay Lohan's driver crashed into a wall outside the valet at the long-suffering Mondrian Hotel. [E! News]

The Bowery Hotel: Where Celebs Go To Breakdown

How did New York and its revolving population of distressed celebrities ever survive before The Bowery Hotel came to be? You'd think that it was created for the express purpose of holding launch parties and refined cocktail hours for downtown types, but no--people actually sleep here! Despite what you read in the gossip columns, it's a real hotel.

Open for barely two years already, The Bowery has quickly come to be known as the hotel for paparazzi to stalk during big events in New York, such as Fashion Week and the Tribeca Film Festival. Consider it The Dorchester Hotel for the States. Were we to detail all of the crazy tabloid stuff that has gone down here, we'd need to take a klonopin and the rest of the day off, and so we'll just stick to regaling you with the highlights:

Hotels Still Hungover From New Year's Eve

January 5, 2009 at 9:00 AM | by juliana | 2 Comments

The reports from New Year's Eve parties at hotels are still rolling in and the latest comes from the mega-shindig that the Gansevoort South threw, featuring everyone's favorite rapper and soon-to-be prison inmate TI.

Page Six reports:

Promoters sold revelers poolside tables for a whopping $10,000, but when partiers got there expecting to see the concert, they were told T.I. would be performing inside the hotel's small ballroom instead. "The city wouldn't allow him to perform outside," a Gansevoort rep said.

Dayum! We love TI and we are probably going to write him letters everyday while he is in prision, but $10,000 for a table? In a recession? And then, he doesn't even perform outside for you? We would be pissed. Add some alcohol and we would probably be raging.

Partygoers also had to deal with some fool named DJ Cassidy who wouldn't get off the stage for TI. Fortunately, TI saved the night by doing the countdown and an a capella version of "Live your Life." Drama.

More on celebs behaving badly on the eve of 2009 in hotels after the jump.

South Beach Starting to Sizzle for the Season

December 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

Some bite-sized Miami Hotel Mambo info for ya!

While the Epic Hotel managed to open on time today, the Riviera South Beach has pushed back its date again. This time we've been told the hotel will open up just "days before" New Year's Eve.

We are taking reservations for New Year's Eve ... one bedroom suites with complete kitchens and living rooms, the perfect pre-party spot!!

Let's just hope indeed this hotel opens in time for New Year's Eve. That would be a shame to have your trip and hotel all set for Miami only to have the hotel cancel at the last minute. Online reservations were not available but room rates start around $205 for the one-bedroom suites.

Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson Maybe Get Trapped Inside Bowery Hotel

July 29, 2008 at 1:47 PM | by Jenna | 1 Comment

According to Perez, life partners/under the radar lezzies/BFF's Lindsay Lohan and DJ Samantha Ronson somehow managed to get trapped inside their room at the Bowery Hotel this weekend.

A (reliable?) source told him the pair had to exit via their second-story balcony (not one of the balconies with the jacuzzis or outdoor showers, though) and scaled the wall Spiderman-style to get out of the room.

Yeah, we don't really get it either.

People.com spotted the couple-ish thing dining at the hotel's Gemma Restaurant before the two started partying on the Bowery's bar patio. And they were lookin' cute! But then...
