The Only Hotel in London for Anglophiles and Royal-Watchers: The Goring Hotel

July 9, 2015 at 10:13 AM | by | ()

The other month we teased you a bit with some sexy lighting from inside The Goring Hotel in London. Today, we're showing off the rest of the "Splendid" room and elsewhere around the hotel.

*Assumes posh British accent*

If you're looking for a properly British hotel, you must not look any further. Aside from having a Royal Warrant and from being the host of the Middleton family during the Royal Wedding, The Goring has the largest private garden in London (after the Queen's nearby at Buckingham Palace) which makes for a wonderful retreat from the bustling city. If you know how to play croquet (The lovely Pippa recently gave a tutorial in Vanity Fair), all the better.

Forget free champagne; here’s the real corker of a way to celebrate a #royalbaby.

Just in time for the arrival of mini Middleton, the Goring – which is swiftly becoming Kate’s favorite hotel – has introduced some footmen. And not any old footmen, either; an entire fleet of footmen, dressed in scarlet tails and gold-edged waistcoats. Five footmen – one for each of the hotel’s suites. Their job? To minister to your every need and cater to your every whim.

Part of the new lobby area

One can only assume one’s invite got lost in the post. Fresh off its recent closure, refurbishment and total transformation of the lobby area, The Goring threw a party this week, partly to celebrate its new look, but officially to mark its birthday – 105 years young! Guest of honor was Kate Middleton, who, of course, stayed there during her wedding celebrations and even had the reception there. (Obviously, Kate had seen our photos of the new-look lobby and hurried to see for herself. For unflattering pictures of Kate, see here.)

The party took the form of a lunch, and Kate attended in a personal capacity, while Prince William is on an official visit to China. Eight months pregnant and still dressing up and wearing heels? Guess she didn’t want to fall foul of the Goring’s no-sneakers dress code.

Best Celebrity Performance: Solange Gets Feisty in the Elevator at The Standard

December 30, 2014 at 12:32 PM | by | ()

It's that time of year again: the 2014 HotelChatter Awards! Today and tomorrow, we'll be showcasing the best (and worst) of hotels over the past year. But we couldn't do it without you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or shoot us an email. And the Award goes to...

This was almost a tricky one. We were swayed by Snoop Dogg’s sweet behavior at a random Holiday Inn Express in Devon, and intrigued by Kate Middleton’s inroads into the hotel scene, first snubbing the Dorchester boycott to attend a party, and then wowing NYC with her stay at the Carlyle.

Made in Manhattan Kate in Manhattan Middleton in Manhattan! If you’ve read any serious newspaper today, you’ll know that Kate and Wills, occasionally known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, touched down in New York yesterday for a two-night stay - the first time either of them have been to the Big Apple. A historic occasion, then. Which lucky hotel did they pick to bestow their charms and future booking increase on?

The Carlyle.

The royals – or this couple, anyway – have history with the Carlyle. Princess Diana stayed there twice – first in 1995, and then in 1997, just two months before she died. This time around, a 200-strong crowd was waiting for five-months-pregnant Kate and William.

Hot on the heels of knickergate, Kate Middleton has moved onto her next controversy: breaking the Dorchester Collection boycott.

According to the ever reliable Daily Mail, she attended her cousin’s wedding at the The Dorchester Hotel itself in London last Friday.

Possibly aware of the controversy her visit might cause, or possibly to prevent any more wardrobe malfunctions, she arrived in a blacked out car, arrived and left via the back door, and took nine protection officers with her.

Meanwhile, Princes William and Harry hit up another Dorchester Collection venue at the weekend: Coworth Park, for a celeb charity polo event.

The Royal Baby Has No Name But Already There's a Hotel Cocktail in His Honor

Where: 1c Portland Place, London, United Kingdom
July 23, 2013 at 4:08 PM | by | ()

The Royal Baby, aka son of the Prince William and Kate Middleton (or more properly, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), arrived yesterday at 4:24pm weighing eight pounds and six ounces and reportedly sporting more hair than Wills.

Yet before he even made his debut outside the hospital today, The Langham London had unveiled their celebratory cocktail for the boy at their Artesian bar.

Called "The Royal Toast", the drink is a champagne cocktail created by International Bartender of The Year Alex Kratena that combines Tapatio tequila, cedar wood syrup, lemon juice and Peychaud’s bitters with Ruinart blanc de blancs. The drink is then served in a coupe wrapped in a scented blue crepe paper. It costs £16.50 and will be served only until August 22nd. Meanwhile, rates upstairs at the hotels start around $365 a night.

Kate Middleton's In Labor, But You Can Babymoon at These Hotels Instead

July 22, 2013 at 10:56 AM | by | ()

When the Queen of England remarks on your pregnancy (which has gone 11 days past due date) with a "...I would very much like it to arrive. I’m going on holiday”, that certainly puts the pressure on. So, it's no surprise Kate Middleton was admitted early this morning to London's St. Mary's Hospital and is in labor. Looks like the third in line to the throne will be welcomed to the world soon and Queen Elizabeth can go on vacation!

Well guess what? All you other pregnant ladies out there not yet due can still get some respite, thanks to the host of "Babymoon" packages that have rolled out ever since Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge announced she was with child.

From decadent hotel stays to pampering getaways, here are options for women in every stage of pregnancy--just make sure it's doctor approved (Kate got harassed for her own Mustique babymoon, by taking an eight-hour flight). We've decided to skip the outlandish six-figure "Royal Babymoon" deals (cough) for those a bit more realistic--although the Trump Package was such a good Fantasy Friday special they're now doing it in Waikiki! But take it easy, after all, you've got a boatload of diapers to finance in the near future.

However, do get in one more treat before D (delivery) Day comes!

Cute, or Creepy? Grosvenor House Builds A Nursery For Kate Middleton's Baby

Places like The Goring, The Stafford and Park Plaza Hotels were all quick to join in the royal wedding mania that took place two summers ago, but here's one hotel that seems to be starting a new trend: royal baby mania.

London's Grosvenor House has chosen to re-decorate one of its Premium Park suites in anticipation of Kate Middleton and Prince William's firstborn. Not that, like, the baby is actually planning to stay there (at this moment, it can't even digest its own food, so we don't see how it could be making hotel reservations…), but, you know, just in case.

"Suite Dreams" is a fully-equipped nursery, with a luxurious four-poster crib, hand-painted furniture, Beatrix Potter-inspired designs, and a children's play area with a London-themed toy cupboard.

The whole thing is pretty impressive, actually, though no surprise there, as Daily Mail tells us the suite was actually designed by Dragons of Walton Street, a studio that's created nurseries for the Royal Family in the past.

We knew it would happen. The “Babymoons” of yesteryear would return as a trend. And you know who’s to blame? We’ve got two culprits. Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian. Since both women announced their pregnancies, we can’t count the amount of baby-centric packages appearing in our inbox. Fine. Expected.

But this is Fantasy Friday, so you know we’re going for the most OTT package we’ve seen, because it’s crazy fun to peep what’s out there for mamas-to-be (oh, and their partners too!).

Today we’re looking at theTrump Royal Heir Package from the Central Park stationed Trump International hotel. The property’s Britain-born GM, Suzie Mills developed the special to ladies in their second trimester want to savor the last few weeks of carefree couple time and prenatal pampering.

Look what you'll get for $6,000 (or $6,500 depending on suite choice) after the jump!

Kate Middleton's Wedding Hotel Has Received a 'Royal Warrant' from the Queen

January 18, 2013 at 3:15 PM | by | ()

This hotel received an official "thumbs up" from the Queen.

Despite our initial pause about the term "Royal Warrant", no one at The Goring Hotel in London's swank Belgravia nabe is getting arrested. Rather, the Royal Warrant decree establishes the hotel as the Royal Family's "official favorite hotel of choice." It's the first time ever the Queen has bestowed the award on a hotel.

Not that we needed some fancy schmancy decoration from the Queen to understand how much the Royal Family loves the spot. After all, this is where Kate spent her last night as a commoner in the hotel's top floor suites. It's also where several of the royals retreated post-nuptials to let their hair down and have some real fun. Perhaps too much fun in Prince Harry's case. But the hotel isn't just a joint for stuffy royals. In fact, a pretty sexy bridal lingerie photoshoot inspired by Kate also happened at the hotel in 2011.

How Kate Middleton Helped Sexify The Goring Hotel in London

It's no secret that the royals love The Goring Hotel in London. After all, that's where Kate Middleton spent her last night as a free woman before marrying Prince William in April. It's also where Prince Harry partied a little too hardy after the nuptials. But we can't help but wonder what the Queen Elizabeth would think of this sexy photoshoot for Marks & Spencers' new line of bridal lingerie. The Daily Mail reports:

The lingerie-clad girls, wearing nude heels, stockings and suspenders, were promoting M&S's new range of bridal lingerie at the Victoria hotel where Kate spent her last night as a Middleton. The vintage-inspired collection, available to buy from today, includes corsets, bras and bodices made of silk and lace.
