We give the Cooper Square a pretty hefty amount of garbage for their panty-views (see here and here, in case you haven't been in on the fun) and their occasionally non-functioning website and whatnot, so we'll be nice today and deliver some good news: we called the hotel this morning and found out that Table 8, the hotel's long-awaited restaurant from chef Govind Armstrong, opened last night.

New York Mag's latest issue mentioned the opening, describing the dining room as "outfitted with a leather-clad wall, bookshelves, and a central fourteen-seat 'salt bar' featuring house-cured meats and fish," but according to the hotel staffer we spoke to, the resto didn't actually open to the public until last night.

On Tuesday night, however, good ol' Jennifer Aniston was all up in there for her new flick's after-party, but the only notable happening from that event was some weird drama going on with her and some dude (so says Page Six). We're not too worried about Aniston making this her new Sunset Tower, though, 'cause she doesn't live in NYC. In other words, we can sleep soundly knowing we'll be able to enjoy those fabled short-rib grilled cheese sandwiches (as seen on Oprah!) in peace.

Is The Sunset Tower the New Hollywood Roosevelt?

This recent item in Page Six about a recent debaucherous party at the The Sunset Tower had us a bit concerned. And it's not because we are distraught over the caliber of women that How I Met Your Mother cutie Jason Segel is dating--although it does worry us quite a bit. No, what has our hotel geek radar blipping is that the Sunset Tower is looking a lot like another Hollywood hotel of lore--The Hollywood Roosevelt.

Back in 2005 the Hollywood Roosevelt was out of control with its celebrity guests and their parties. The hotel was actually the ultimate haven for A-list celebs who were still denying they had a substance abuse problem.

Who's Keeping the Sunset Tower in Business?

Time to get serious about the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood. We know, we know: we've been known to dish the occasional eye-roll in its direction due to the hotel's biggest fan (Jen Aniston, obviously) and the rest of the restaurant's celeb clientele.

The hotel's name surfaces all over the gossip rags for the Oscar party reports and the famous faces lurking about the property — in fact, People just reported spotting Madonna, Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz, Lily Allen and ol' Aniston there (not all together, obvs) — but what's the deal with the hotel itself? Why don't we hear anything about it? Does this place exist solely to please Jennifer Aniston and her friends, to ban paparazzi from bothering famous people and for highly-publicized Oscar parties?

Back in '06, HotelChatter's MarkJ stayed at the Sunset Tower and loved it. Great views, sunny rooms, an interesting old building with modern touches, and free WiFi — what's not to love? Well, we don't know: we have gotten zero reader reviews of this place, and over at TripAdvisor, the hotel is ranks #12 of 17 West Hollywood hotels — pretty middle-of-the-pack.

So we want to hear from you: what's the Sunset Tower like nowadays? Is there anything to it besides its celeb-infested restaurant?

If you've stayed there recently, we want to hear about it.

Someone Besides Jen Aniston Shows Up at the Sunset Tower

As the whole Internet may be aware by now, Jennifer Aniston goes to the Sunset Tower a lot. So much so that we ended up writing an open letter to urge her to change her hotel habits — and then we proceeded to ignore all reports of her showing up to the Sunset Tower since. We did what we had to do.

But now! We're delighted to relay the news that someone else has gone to the Sunset Tower. In fact, two other celebs — besides John Mayer and Courtney Cox and whomever else goes there to meet Jen Aniston — were spotted there by Page Six:

Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn seem to have smoked a peace pipe. Penn was said to be furious after Rourke - in line for an Oscar for his turn in "The Wrestler" - called Penn a "homophobe" and an "average" actor following Penn's performance in "Milk." But the two were at the Sunset Tower hotel pool Monday afternoon having drinks together.

Page Six's source told the rag that Mickey looked a little nervous "around Sean" — but perhaps they were just nervous that Jen would bust out onto the pool deck and tell them to get off her turf. Well, probably not. Surely nobody would be crazy enough to charge two men smoking a proverbial "peace pipe" anyway.

Hotels Still Hungover From New Year's Eve

The reports from New Year's Eve parties at hotels are still rolling in and the latest comes from the mega-shindig that the Gansevoort South threw, featuring everyone's favorite rapper and soon-to-be prison inmate TI.

Page Six reports:

Promoters sold revelers poolside tables for a whopping $10,000, but when partiers got there expecting to see the concert, they were told T.I. would be performing inside the hotel's small ballroom instead. "The city wouldn't allow him to perform outside," a Gansevoort rep said.

Dayum! We love TI and we are probably going to write him letters everyday while he is in prision, but $10,000 for a table? In a recession? And then, he doesn't even perform outside for you? We would be pissed. Add some alcohol and we would probably be raging.

Partygoers also had to deal with some fool named DJ Cassidy who wouldn't get off the stage for TI. Fortunately, TI saved the night by doing the countdown and an a capella version of "Live your Life." Drama.

Hey, girlfriend. Loved you on Oprah last week. And you know what? You're right: what Angelina did was very uncool, but it was also rather unfortunate that Vogue pulled that little tidbit from your interview and used it as your cover line on the front of the December issue, dontchya think? Yikes. Guess they didn't clear that one with your people first, huh?

Anyway, we're not here to talk to you about that — nor are we here to point out that your lovah John Mayer is starting to look a wee bit Marc Anthony-esque (if this photo on People.com is to be believed) — but rather, your choice of hotels in which to make public appearances is getting a little, well, how should we say this? Boring, Jen. Really, really effing boring.

Hotel News Briefs :: Fashion Week's Hott Messes Head to the Greenwich Hotel

There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· Jen and Brad Reunite Over Drinks: Supposedly, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt had a mini-reunion over drinks at the Park Hyatt in Toronto. WTFWAJD? You figure that out. [The Sun UK]

· Plaza Residences Drama: Some rich man paid way too much money for an apartment at the Plaza Hotel and they still gave him a crappy place. [NY Post]

· Greenwich Hotel Hosts Marc Jacobs After-Party: Fashion Week is still chugging along here in NYC and Robert DeNiro's place  hosted Marc Jacobs and all his hott mess friends.

· Downtown LA to Get Boutique Hotel: Wow, this actually makes us excited about downtown LA. The Clark Hotel will open in eight months. [LA Curbed]

Jen Aniston and John Mayer Mellow Out at the Intercontinental Amstel

It must be nice to be Jennifer Aniston or John Mayer, whose days end inside a $1015-a-night Netherlands hotel room replete with the finest relaxation-enhancers Amsterdam has to offer...such as a view of the Amstel river, of course.

Splash news reports the two were bunking together at the ultra-posh Intercontinental Amstel last night. The historic hotel boasts mega-luxurious digs and unbelievable views (and lots of privacy) -- perfect for the undercover couple to unwind.

John is in Manchester today for his next gig. No word on whether or not Jen is gonna be in tow, but the paps are probably on the scene right now; we hope Mayer brought along some "relaxation assistance" from Amsterdam to help with the stress.

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer Dirty Up the Pool at the Mandarin Oriental Miami

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer were first spotted getting cuddly in Miami poolside at the Mandarin Oriental a few weeks ago and out with his new lady love as she wrapped up filming after a brief trip to NYC, John Mayer has returned to the chlorinated waters once more with Jen.

Johniston (Mayerston? Jen-Jo? Jenyer? Mayifer?) were snapped clinging to each other in the pool over the weekend. Access Hollywood reports:

Photographers snapped the star couple spending some time poolside at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami on Saturday. Mayer flew south to hang g scenes for her new comedy "Marley & Me," co-starring Owen Wilson.

The duo also attended the "Marley" wrap party later that night at Nikki Coconut Grove in Miami.

Jennifer Aniston is a serial hotel abuser. Her and Brad Pitt called it quits at the Dorchester. Her and Vince Vaughn reportedly started their love affair at the Peninsula Beverly Hills. And she's a frequent guest at the Sunset Tower in Los Angeles.

So it makes perfect sense that her newest relationship kicks off at the Mandarin Oriental. Located away from the busy Ocean Drive on Brickell Key, the hotel has killer views of the Biscayne Bay. Plus, John never stayed here with Jessica Simpson. Let's just hope Jen (or the movie studio) is getting a discounted rate as rooms start around $500 a night.

Sunset Tower Hotel Protects the Social Life of Celebrities From Nosy, Texting Reporters

Looks like the Sunset Tower Hotel is emerging as the real place for celebrities to go when they want to feel "normal". Or at least be surrounded by other celebs without having to worry if the paparazzi will be documenting their every more.

Page Six reports that the Tower Bar at the hotel kicked out a freelance reporter for a trashy tabloid mag after they spotted her texting that Jennifer Aniston was there with her new boyfriend. Yup, the celebrity gossip machine is practically worse than the Monday after a middle school dance.

Last week, an entertainment freelance reporter for one of the weeklies was unceremoniously booted after she was caught texting people that Jennifer Aniston was there with her new beau, Paul Colford. "Security was called and she was told to never come back," our insider said. But the journo didn't go quietly - "She made a huge stink and started screaming." As she was being tossed, "The entire bar - including [Aniston], Bernie Brillstein, Kate Hudson and [former Paramount head] Donald Deline - started applauding, and some people even stood up."

Yikes, guess we better not go skulk around that hotel anytime soon.

Jennifer Aniston Not Too Big of a Celeb to Talk to Hotel Valet

Or at least we think she's talking to him. By the look on his face, he's definitely talking to her. But maybe Aniston was just trying to hide from the photographers as she lunched at Shutters on the Beach last week in Santa Monica, reportedly with her bad-boy date, Paul Sculfor, who has made the news lately for being a former coke addict and hungry fame seeker. Just another day in Hollywood, huh?
