Just One Year To Go Until The Opening Of Ace Downtown Los Angeles

For Ace's next California location, the hip hotel brand has honed in on LA's re-emerging Downtown neighborhood, and even better, work has already begun on converting a 1927-built United Artists movie theater into a 180-room hotel. OK, fine, that part we already knew.

But it looks like the Ace team has actually set a tentative opening date of Fall 2013, which would make it the Ace's fifth property in 14 years. Compared to the big corporate entities, that's practically nothing, but then again that's why we like the Ace so much. After all, we don't see Hyatt or Hilton going in and restoring 2,214-seat movie theaters out of the kindness of their hearts.

Furthermore, Ace has now created an interim Los Angeles page on their website, and last night, posted the above photo on their Instagram feed, generating more than a few excited responses from fellow Instagram-ers:

A hotel Instagram of our own

Hotels...they're finally getting it. Social media, we mean—they're getting social media, and the latest example of this is a major Instagram contest to award a mobile photographer with a new camera, a hotel stay, a display of their image and mentions in the press.

The contest, hosted by Washington DC's Dupont Circle Hotel asks for submissions that have a theme of a circle reflect "the spirit of Washington DC." Just contributing an image to the contest earns you a free cocktail at the hotel, so that's like $14 right there. Naturally there are more detailed rules; see them below.

Tonight: The W Lakeshore Chicago Throws an Instagram Art Party

Back in May, the W New York Times Square became the first hotel to host a formal exhibition of Instagram photography. The event must've been quite successful, because it's now spreading to the W Chicago Lakeshore, who tonight host the opening of their own Instagram show—the first official Instagram exhibit in Chicago—complete with culmination of a contest.

After receiving over 7,500 entries, the W Lakeshore chose one photo to crown the exhibition, and it'll be unveiled this evening between 6-8PM in the Living Room and Wave Patio with "cocktails, interactive moments, Instagram portraits and DJ Megan Taylor," according to Racked Chicago.

The party is open to the public, and we'll be there amongst the crowd doing the very meta thing of instgramming instagrams. Charge up your phone and see you there?

These pics range from stunning views to anti-views to celebrity tomfoolery and everything in between. And we can't get enough of 'em! Every Monday, we commemorate our favorite "Twitpic of the Week." It's no secret that the James Chicago likes to offer fun little "extras" at the hotel: whether that's a pop-up ice cream shop, or a noteworthy artist-in-residence program or an in-room cocktail amenity. And so we weren't too surprised to see a recent guest tweet this photo of one of the hotel's 26 in-room DVD projectors.

W Times Square to Host First Instagram NYC Exhibit, and They Want Your Photos

We don't have to tell you that we're pretty crazy for the social photo sharing app Instagram and its potential for peeking into the hotel rooms of other travelers. This week saw the launch of Instagram for Android and now, more good news:

The W Hotel Times Square will open New York City's first Instagram photography exhibit on May 1. On display in the hotel's Living Room lobby area through June, the photos consist of works from five of the most popular Instagrammers in the Instagram NYC community. BUT! There's still a opening for one more, thanks to a contest of course. The details:

What Kind Of Hotel Photographer Are You?

Here at HotelChatter we're constantly bombarding you with all sorts of hotel snapshots—from mouth-watering desserts to bodacious toiletries to, yes, tricked-out hotel toilets. What can we say? We love to whet your appetite for full-on hotel frivolity geekery.

But we know we're not the only ones who like to whip out the old Nikon the minute we step into the room. In fact, our popular Flickr Pool has shown you all to be perfectly capable hotel chroniclers too.

So we want to know: when you show up at a new hotel, what is the first thing you like to take pictures of? Is it the lobby? The view from your window? The elevator doors?

Surfcomber Miami's Cows and Sheep Are Getting Social

Everyone, it seems, is on Spring Break. Even the cows and sheep at The Surfcomber in South Beach.

These intriguing sculptures who dot the public spaces of Kimpton's newest outpost in Miami popped up this weekend on Instagram photos of Winter Music Conference events at the hotel. In fact, it was the Surfcomber and Kimpton who did most of the Instagraming--and who encouraged guests to do likewise, captioning this shot with: "Share your cow and sheep pictures from #winter_party with us #surfcomberhotelmiami."

The hotel even has a new Instagram photos section of its website and is getting pretty active on Facebook. So, why suddenly is the Surfcomber going social, animals and all?
