Here's Your Chance to Tell Us What You Think of The Surrey Hotel

When we got our sneak peek of The Surrey Hotel on New York's Upper East Side, we were thrilled by the luxe elegance we found in the room, not to mention the swank neighborhood outside. But then we read a review from Globalista that wasn't quite what we hoped for. Even though the TripAdvisor reviews were generally positive, the seeds of doubt were planted.

Coupled with our disappointment about the hotel's introductory offer, chances were looking slim on taking a chance on The Surrey. Until now.

The Surrey has just sweetened the deal for HotelChatter Readers by offering a complimentary night when you reserve a minimum two-night stay.

Galleria Park Hotel Helps Visitors Experience a Faux Snow Day in SF

Site Where: 191 Sutter St [map], San Francisco, CA, United States, 94104

San Francisco natives know that the closest thing the city gets to snow, sleet, or anything of the sort during the holidays is Union Square's perilously crowded ice rink. You can either hightail it out of town—to Lake Tahoe or Big Bear, for instance—for a taste of the real thing, or you can fake it with the "Snow Day" package being offered by the Galleria Park Hotel. Its perks are a far cry from being caught in a bonafide flurry, but when you're a coastal Californian or holiday visitor, faux is the best you can hope for.

The Galleria Park is located in Union Square, whose holiday decorations are really impressive, despite their kitsch: a fully tinsel and wreath-beckdecked MACY*S, a gigantic Christmas tree in the main plaza, and even more lights than usual. What the package offers in addition to being squarely in the middle of these surroundings are complimentary valet parking, which usually runs for $35 per night, two tickets and skate rental to said ice rink, and two cups of Valrhona (a.k.a. the way high-end version of Swiss Miss) hot chocolate upon returning to the hotel at midi.

The Signature at MGM Grand Keeps Both Naughty and Nice Lists

We regularly cover Sin City happenings on our sister site VegasChatter, where the X-to-G-rated ratio often tips in favor of lascivious activities. This isn't to say that there aren't perfectly innocent things to do in Las Vegas—we reported on gelato last Friday, for Chrissakes—but finding them may take more work than wandering into any one of the Strip's neon-lighted strip joints.

Just in time for proverbial "list checking" season, The Signature at MGM Grand is offering a "Nice" alternative for those of a prim persuasion. Deviant travelers will have their requisite "Naughty" option, so fear not.

Have a Side of Palm Beach with Your Thanksgiving Turkey

You know what goes even better with a heaping plate of Thanksgiving turkey than a side of mashed potatoes? Palm Beach. OK, so maybe you won’t feel like jumping straight into that bikini or Speedo after gorging on your holiday dinner, but we’re still going to say beach-combing in Palm Beach trumps cramming into your sister-in-law’s house in suburbia.

But here’s what would make us extra thankful: staying at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, with the third night free. And for those of you purists who think the only way a beach should be part of Thanksgiving is lounging around like a beached whale after chowing down on seconds and thirds, fret not, for the Four Seasons has arranged for some traditional Thanksgiving activities.

Palos Verdes' Terranea Resort is Offering Rooms for Half-Off

Site Where: 6610 Palos Verdes Drive South [map], Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, United States, 90275

More hotel deals! The Terranea Resort, a luxury oceanfront property in Palos Verdes, just south of Los Angeles, is offering guests 50 percent off its room rates but only for 12 more days. From now through October 27, you can get rooms at the brand new hotel for $210 a night. The special rates are good for stays through December 17. It's even available for reservations over Thanksgiving.

The only caveat is that it does require advance purchase. And while we found opening rates at the hotel over the summer for less (about $145 a night), room rates have since jumped up to about $500 a night. We were able to find a room over Thanksgiving for $261 a night for a resort view king. Ocean views cost $316 a night.

The Terranea is a sprawling resort with tons of activities available during your stay such as hiking the resort's two mile trail, playing golf on a "challenging" 9-hole course, relaxing at the spa and just taking in the awesome Pacific ocean and Catalina Island views. There's even a children's center so you can drop the kids off and actually enjoy your vacation.

The Sanctuary Hotel Wants You to Peek In On Their Dress Rehearsal (at $159 a night)

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 132 west 47th [map], New York, NY, United States, 10036

Manhattan is a hotbed of hotel openings right now so if a trip to New York is on your agenda this fall, there are plenty of new hotels to try out. But some of them might be a little out of your budget like The Crosby Street Hotel at $459 a night and Ink48 at $269 a night. So to get a deal, you might need to try a hotel that's not quite all the way open yet, like The Sanctuary Hotel.

This is a hotel that we've been waiting a long time to see (like since 2006). Located in Times Square, the hotel is still known as The Portland Square Hotel but the Impulsive Group is in the process of giving it a multi-million dollar facelift to transform it into The Sanctuary. As of now, only nine of the hotel's 122 rooms have been completed renovated and updated. But they look pretty cute, even if the rest of the hotel still needs some work.

Guestrooms feature plush beds with European linens as well as 32- to 42-inch plasma televisions and iPod docking stations. The bathrooms boast a unique open design featuring quarried marble as well as a glass enclosure with a rain showerhead surrounded by adjustable drapery to create an intimate bath experience. Several of the guestrooms also showcase the original structure of the hotel with exposed brick or metal beams adorning the ceiling.

Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Turns 110, Offers Rooms for $110 a Night

Site Where: 181 Rue Richelieu, La Malbaie, QC, Canada, G5A1X7
October 12, 2009 at 3:18 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Another gimmicky hotel rate! Although, this takes place in Quebec and it's a Fairmont Hotel so it's a little pricier (and Frencher) than other room rate gimmicks we've seen as of late.

The stunning, cliffside Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu is turning 110 years old and to celebrate, the hotel is offering rates for--you guessed it--$110 a night. While the stays are good through December 22, you must book between October 12 to 31. The rate is also open based on availability. The hotel suggests you call in person at 1-888-403-9199 to book. Normally, rooms are about $170CAD a night.

So what do you get for $110 a night? Well, nothing really besides a room which is non-refundable and full pre-payment is required.

20 Things Under $20 Every Day At The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 921 Canal Street [map], New Orleans, LA, United States, 70112
October 6, 2009 at 9:32 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Normally we have Ritz Carltons down as splurgy kinds of places rather than savers, so it’s nice to know that the New Orleans branch is reaching out to our budget hearts with its new 20 Under $20 list – 20 things you can get under their roof every day for under $20, plus a free bonus thrown in for good measure.

You won’t be finding any rooms on the list, unfortunately, but as well as the obvious stuff like a postcard (a slightly overpriced $1) or a cup of coffee (a much more reasonable $2) you will see things from sushi ($3), Jazzed Up Grits ($6), a Bloody Mary ($8), Bananas Foster ($10) and kobe beef sliders ($16).

The “free” part is Jeremy Davenport’s live jazz, which you can either catch on weekend nights or Thursday evenings from 5.30pm till 9pm. If you make this one, you’ll get a free Davenportini cocktail to boot (as you might have guessed, Mr Davenport is something of a Nola celebrity and beloved of the local ladies). Although you might have trouble getting served – the place is rammed when he plays.

The James Chicago's Private Sale Scores You 25% Off

Site Where: 55 East Ontario Chicago [map], Chicago, IL, United States, 60611

Mmmm, private sale. The two words alone are enough to conjure up visions of red-soled shoes, couture and fancy digs — but, luckily for us, we see those two beautiful words together plenty because we keep up with our fave brands and hotel properties on Twitter. We're hearing that Oprah's even in on this Twitter thing.

And here's one more reason why you should be: via an in-the-know Twitterer, we learned of the just-announced Private Sale at The James Chicago — which scores us 25% off the Best Available Rate Offer.

The sale is valid for rezzies April 16 through September 15 of this year, though you have to book your stay by April 25th (that's soon!) Oh, and there's no minimum stay or anything. Just a good ol' private sale.

Rooms here start at $203 and go up from there — score the 25% off deal by booking through the offer page.

Get Your Breakfast On In Beverly Hills

March 27, 2009 at 9:11 AM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

Listen. We know you're a breakfast person. You feel strongly about the breakfasts offered at budget hotel chains — and we know you get cranky when you start off your days paying out the nose for a decent meal to keep you going through the morning.

And when you're in Beverly Hills at a hotel that is, say, one like The Beverly Hilton or the Crescent, we're pretty sure you're not expecting a Hampton Inn-esque free first meal o' the day — but thanks to the BH Conference & Visitors Bureau, even the most luxe hotels in Beverly Hills will be offering free breakfasts this spring. Oh — and free nights too.
