Name This Caption!

It's Monday and just the right hour for some work procrastination. Take a minute and play Witty Wordsmith with us, whydontcha? That's right, it's time to Name.This.Caption!

This one's a toughie, because it touches on Hurricane Sandy and as much as we'd like to think "new week, new start", we're flummoxed. Plus we know people are still out there affected by this disaster. If we can put a name on this, it might help should we ever encounter it again. We'll explain.

You're captioning the above picture. But first, you must look at the one below. See the difference? We looked more than a few times to make sure we weren't seeing things.

Still Another App Launches--This Time From Hotwire

October 15, 2012 at 7:23 PM | by | Comments (0)

Given one of our HC crew just went on a mini rant about technology, we're giggling a bit about all these new travel apps that seem to be coming out weekly-blah-daily. Some of them are good and we frequently use them, but now the word "app" is becoming a pain in our "apps"..if you will.

The latest comes from Hotwire who has just released their own iPhone app for discounts on last-minute hotel rooms located in 3145 cities and 61 countries. So now they join HotelTonight and most recently Jetsetter in this category of mobile applications capitalizing on a hotel's unused room inventory. OK, so what makes this one different?

Well, first it's only available on the iPhone and iTouch, and more specifically, designed to work best with the new iOS 6 and iPhone 5. Ay. So, what, they are they anti-Android?

There are other tiny differences that won't really matter in the long run if all you want to do is quickly find a hotel room at a good price, which Hotwire assures you'll be able to do within 30 seconds using their app. But we're not completely sold.

Hotel Tonight Launches Major App Update Today

September 18, 2012 at 1:45 PM | by | Comments (2)

HotelTonight released the 4.0 version of its iOS and Android app today. The new versions will bring expanded hotel offerings as well as personalized suggestions for each user.

“What one person sees is now a little different than what another person will see,” says Sam Shank, CEO of Hotel Tonight. “We had complaints that hotels weren’t [always] right for them, so we wanted to get better results for people.” For example, at one point it wouldn’t help a customer if all deals shown that day were all on one side of town, and that customer was on the other side. With the new app, they’ll now be able to see more options. Also, with a type of “customer tracking” system, if one highly rates a hotel after a stay, when they return to HT, they’ll see a bonus hotel offer similar to the one they stayed at previously.

Here's A breakdown on what will happen when you open the new HotelTonight app.

Hotel Tonight's Daily Contest Gives $100 Credit and Weekend Bag

September 10, 2012 at 2:02 PM | by | Comments (0)

There seem to be a lot of contests going on lately, and well, we’re hoping SOMEONE will win something, so we’re happy to share the details with you. The newest one seems to be from our latest crush (yes, we’re admitting it) Hotel Tonight.

For the whole month of September, HT is giving away a prize for its Facebook followers. Every weekday, someone will win an Everlane Weekender bag, plus $100 Hotel Tonight Credit. Can you imagine if we would have won that? Our Dream New York stay would have cost us only $57!!

Anyway, all you have to do is fill out a form on Facebook, follow Everlane, an $100-or-less accessories outlet, and check HT's Twitter feed for daily clues, which are posted at noon PST and then answer correctly each day for a chance to enter.
Hey, what've you got to lose?

We Got a "Dream" of a Deal With Hotel Tonight

Go To The Hotel's Web

We know, we’ve kind of been obsessed with HotelTonight lately, but we promise it’s for the greater good of all! Call us the Rebels of Hotel Rates, but there’s just something about getting kick-ass deals on normally outside-your-budget hotels.

Case in point: Last Thursday we needed to stay in New York City for a night but weren’t sure what hotel rates would be. Rock bottom because of the impending Labor Day weekend, or sky high because of just that? That morning we checked the usual suspects, Quikbook, SniqueAway, and Jetsetter and everything seemed to be around $250 a night and more. ‘Not bad, for NYC!’ you might think. Well, we just didn’t/couldn’t/wouldn’t PAY those rates. Something in our gut told us things would get better if we just waited until noon.

When the clock struck 12, we opened our Hotel Tonight app and the gold was there. Dream New York for $155 a night! . With a rate that's been more than $269, we knew we had a winner.
