May 21, 2013 at 9:21 AM | by | Comments (0)

Ok, so you probably didn't win the $600-million Powerball drawing this past weekend, but we've got another contest for you to enter, this one with a bit better odds.

Marriott is giving away a customized trip to one of its eight tropical resorts in the Marriott Caribbean & Mexico Resorts collection, which include resorts in Aruba, Cancun (2), Puerto Vallarta, Curacao, Grand Cayman, St. Kitts, and St. Thomas. If you win, you get a five-night stay, daily breakfast for two, and a $200 resort credit at your choice of the above destinations.

How do you win? First, you follow Marriott Resorts Pinterest page and create a board on your Pinterest profile named “My Marriott Resorts Vacation.” Then, you find the "Pin Your Dream Vacation Board" located on Marriott's page and repin one image from each of the five categories (resorts, destinations, activities & amenities, dining and shopping) in your "My Marriott Resorts Vacation" board. Then dust off your hands and put your feet up -- this will automatically enter you in the contest.

Everyone, it seems, is on Spring Break. Even the cows and sheep at The Surfcomber in South Beach.

These intriguing sculptures who dot the public spaces of Kimpton's newest outpost in Miami popped up this weekend on Instagram photos of Winter Music Conference events at the hotel. In fact, it was the Surfcomber and Kimpton who did most of the Instagraming--and who encouraged guests to do likewise, captioning this shot with: "Share your cow and sheep pictures from #winter_party with us #surfcomberhotelmiami."

The hotel even has a new Instagram photos section of its website and is getting pretty active on Facebook. So, why suddenly is the Surfcomber going social, animals and all?

Hotels to Follow Right Now on Instagram

December 27, 2011 at 5:31 PM | by | Comments (0)

Know what's crazy boring and frustrating? Trying to decide whether or not to stay at a hotel by looking at their tiny, staged room photos on a website. This is why we do our best to get in and give you some massive photo galleries to flip through, but now hotels are taking it upon themselves to get creative by using the iPhone photo sharing app Instagram.

To put it plainly, Instagram allows its users to post their own shots (most taken on the fly, via iPhone) applied (or not) with filters to jazz it up the visual oomph. The community is crawling with design, travel, architecture, photography and foodie geeks, which makes it a perfect place to show off your property if you're a hotel.

We've recently joined Instagram ourselves (search hotelchatter & jaunted in the app to find our photostreams) and we're sharing original snaps from our own hotel stays. Still, we searched to find the hotel accounts on Instagram to follow right now:

Bud Light Seeking A Hotel Correspondent, Ugly People Need Not Apply

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 105 S. Meridian St. [map], Indianapolis, IN, United States, 46225
December 27, 2011 at 11:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

With the Super Bowl just around the corner, Bud Light is gearing up for their annual hotel takeover. Now in its third year, the four-day-long, beer-fueled fiesta will be taking place at Hampton Inn Indianapolis Downtown Circle Center, and yes, the Playboy Party will still be happening.

Unlike the previous two years, Bud Light wants to hire an official Hotel Correspondent to keep track of social media for this year's event—plus conduct red carpet interviews, star in YouTube videos and liaise between the hotel partiers and those following the debauchery online from other parts of the country.

The perks of this so-called "job" (yes, this is an actual salaried position) include a free hotel stay and as much beer as you can handle. Interested? See below for instructions on how to apply!

How Do You Use Twitter or Facebook During Your Hotel Stay?

October 21, 2011 at 12:43 PM | by | Comments (3)

Welcome to our OpenThreads, a free-for-all forum on a hotel-related topic. This is where you can tell us how you the hotel guest operates inside a hotel, not the other way around. So jump right in and comment away!

We already know what motivates people to write a hotel review (whether it be on TripAdvisor or now, directly on Starwood Hotels' sites) and that's usually either a really good experience like unexpected upgrades at check-in and truly outstanding service or a really baaaaad experience like a dirty room, broken unmentionable stains and terrible service. Or worse, the hotel cancelled your reservation without telling you. Yikes!

Now obviously, these same conditions apply when it comes to using social media during your hotel stay but Twitter and Facebook also allow you to give real-time updates on your hotel stay. We've certainly given the play-by-play during our hotel stay before from check-in, to the view, to room service and the WiFi charges whether they were good, bad or just a'ight. But then again, that's kind of our job.

So...how do you use Twitter and Facebook during your hotel stay?

The Fancy Shows Some Hotel Love

October 12, 2011 at 9:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

Just in time for the holidays, a new social networking site has launched that allows users to create wish lists of all their favorite things from the web. Say, for example, you like the Loden Dager denim bathrobes at Hotel Americano; or this vintage photo of the original Ace New York building. By "fancy-ing" each new item, you start to build a virtual "collection" of stuff that allows other users to follow you, be inspired by your things, or recommend new things for you to like.

Like any lifestyle blog or online store, The Fancy has quite a few categories to browse through (men's, women's, gadgets, art, food, etc), but one tag that seems to do particularly well? Hotels.

Who Knew? This Month is 'Rock the Robe' Month at Kimpton Hotels

October 6, 2011 at 4:24 PM | by | Comments (0)

Kimpton robes spotted in the wild...aka a guest room.

If you've ever lusted after one of Kimpton Hotels's signature animal print bathrobes, this month might be the month to get one.

The hotel brand is commemorating the 10th anniversary of their robe all month long at their hotels by doing several giveaways.

The first way to win a Kimpton bathrobe is to simply attend the hotel's nightly wine hour, which has actually been renamed Wild Wine Hour this month and will be two hours long instead of the usual hour. (Sorry, this is for guests only!)Guests are invited to to strut around in their animal print robes while employees (also rocking the robes) will raffle off robes for guests to take home. Please be mindful of fellow attendees if you decide to "freeball" it.

Here's a Reason to Start Using Foursquare Again, SPG Points

May 10, 2011 at 1:02 PM | by | Comments (2)

We admit, we were fully under the Foursquare influence back in 2010 but as the rewards for checking into places dwindled and the process of checking in became annoying (not to mention the cheats and scams of mayors and the spam "friends"), we pretty much abandoned Foursquare altogether.

But Starwood's SPG program is making us reconsider again with a pretty cool loyalty program incentive. Right now, you can earn 250 Starpoints when you check in for a confirmed reservation through July at over a 1,000 participating Starwood hotels worldwide.

And every day this month, one very lucky Foursquare user will also unlock a Free Resort Night Award which will be hidden at one of the 1,000 hotels. Plus, anyone who does check in to a Starwood Foursquare hotel will automatically enter themselves into a contest to win a resort getaway including five Free Resort Nights AND airfare.

Gowalla Hooks Up with Four Seasons in California for Spa and Dining Credits

Where: CA, United States
September 13, 2010 at 11:07 AM | by | Comments (0)

While the white hot heat for Foursquare shows no sign of cooling off, competing location-based social media app, Gowalla, is not giving up.

After a brief lackluster partnership with IHG Hotels, Gowalla has now teamed up with Four Seasons Hotels in California. Through the FS concierges, Gowalla has created "Best Of" destination itineraries that are available to Gowalla members during their FS hotel stays.

Aside from having a guide to show them around the area, including must-visit sites, restaurants, shopping, etc, there's also an incentive. When members check into three of the recommendations from Four Seasons on Gowalla, they will earn a $100 spa or dining credit which can be redeemed during their stay.

Here's how it works:

Should You Get a Hotel Discount Just for Being a Fan on Facebook?

July 14, 2010 at 3:18 PM | by | Comments (12)

For hotels, it's no longer a question whether or not they should be on Facebook. The answer is: Of course you should be on Facebook and Twitter too. If you're a hotel that has yet to understand Facebook or Twitter, then you should probably just give up now. (Ok, we don't mean to be that harsh--but seriously, hurry up and get your social media strategies together!)

Now with all these hotels Facebooking and Tweeting more frequently than teenagers and out of work reality TV stars, the lines of communication between hotels and guests--past, future, present--are always open and always flowing, particularly when it comes to deals and specials.

Most hotels are wise to offer their Facebook fans and Twitter followers deals that cannot be found on the hotels' website. These deals are not deep discounts (unless it's a contest or promotion that involves a free stay) and are usually limited time offers but they do skim a little of the room rate, which typically keeps guests happy. But not this guy.
