This is What The World's Largest Pillow Fight Looks Like

Where: SD, United States
November 24, 2014 at 5:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

This is what the Guinness World Record for the largest pillow fight looks like, thanks to Super 8, who hosted the party in celebration of its 40th birthday.

Former boybander Joey Fatone presided over the "fight", where involved 4,501 students from South Dakota State University walloping each other with Super 8-branded pillows. The site of the record-breaking event was SDSU’s Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings, South Dakota where SDSU was playing their rival, University of South Dakota. South Dakota was the state where the first Super 8 hotel was constructed back in 1974. Today, Super 8 is a part of the Wyndham Hotel family.

Now we need to know, did the students get to keep the pillows?

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills Will Be 'Ground Zero for Luxury'

April 11, 2014 at 6:31 PM | by | Comments (2)

Last night, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts threw a glam poolside soiree at The Beverly Hilton to celebrate the long-awaited announcement of the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. While we were momentarily distracted by the offerings at the chocolate bar and the drinks bar, not to mention the appearance of the ethereal and normal-sized Christina Hendricks, we did manage to study a scale model of the planned 12-story, 170-room hotel. Like many things in Beverly Hills, it's an expensive beauty, worth about $200 million.

The hotel has been a long-time dream for developer Beny Alagem who also owns The Beverly Hilton. Plans to bring the luxury brand to the city back in 2008 didn't quite work out thanks to concerned residents and the ensuing economic crash but now, the dream is finally becoming a reality. And in case you didn't already understand, having a Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills is a huge deal in the luxury hotel world.

"We are steps away from Rodeo Drive. This is "Ground Zero" for luxury," said John T.A. Vanderslice, Waldorf Astoria’s Global Brand Head. "And the fact that we are opening a Waldorf Astoria in here is out of this world."

But just how will this five-star hotel set itself apart from the other five-star hotels in town, some within walking distance like the Peninsula, The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire and The Montage?

Super Bowl XLVIII: Where to Party at a Hotel for The Big Game

January 23, 2014 at 2:47 PM | by | Comment (1)

The Super Bowl is getting closer and if you've not scored tickets to the game (likely), you'll still be able to participate in all the festivities happening in NYC (even though the game is in New Jersey.) Hotel rooms are still plentiful but that's only half the part of the celebration. Here's a running list of where you can watch the Big Game from the comfort of a hotel.

We've divvied it up between private viewing parties and come one, come all parties. We'll be updating this list too so if you know of party to check out, send it to us. *

PRIVATE VIEWING PARTIES AT HOTELS: Real ballers will have their own private Game Day party in a hotel suite.

· Trump Soho: You can rent out one of the Trump Soho's eight penthouse suites for a killer private viewing party. The penthouses range from 1,600 to 2,300 square feet, including the premier Duplex Penthouse that features two 46-inch Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 10 televisions and the Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay A9 sound system. The suite can also be decked out in your team's colors and with catering provided by the hotel’s Executive Chef Desmond Lim. You can even get an autographed piece of memorabilia from one of the team’s players. Interested? Call 212.842.5500 or email TrumpSoHo@TrumpHotels.com. The suite rates start at $4,000 but does not include decorations, catering or memorabilia.

· Mandarin Oriental NYC: You can choose to watch the game in either the hotel's signature Presidential or Oriental Suites, both of which have views of the city skyline. A fully-catered tailgate will be brought to your room with the "tastiest stadium snacks" done with a gourmet twist. Like nachos with braised short rib and white bean chili, Kobe Beef Sliders with avocado and jack cheese, and Coney Dogs with ale mustard and sauerkraut. Also included are an array of desserts, a Champion bucket of beers, and a bottle for Louis Roederer’s “Cristal” Champagne (at an additional cost.) Rates begin at $17,800 for the Oriental Suite and $23,800 for the Presidential Suite. The package is available Feb. 1-3, 2014 or Feb. 2-4, 2014 with a two night minimum stay.

· W New York Hotels: The W Times Square, W New York and W Downtown will be offering private Skyboxes for groups up to 25 on Super Bowl Sunday. For $350 per person (plus tax and tip), you'll get an exclusive W Skybox (converted meeting rooms), a projection screen with HD view of the game, a five-hour open bar and tailgate inspired bites. Go here for more info on how to book.

· Waldorf Astoria Tower Suites: Fan can book one of the 123 suites in the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria with leather recliners and sofas, big screens TVs and projectors, gourmet game day staples and an open bar of whiskeys, bourbons and craft beer. The hotel’s Towers Suite Specialists are ready to build your ideal Game Day viewing party. For availability and pricing, call a Suite Specialist at 212-872-1211.

OVER THE TOP HOTEL PARTY/PACKAGE

Sofitel New York: Looking for some game tickets, say, about 20 of them? The Sofitel has you covered. Their Ultimate Super Bowl Experience package includes 20 tickets to the game in Section 300 of MetLife Stadium, along with group transportation to and from the game, 10 luxury suites (double occupancy) for three nights, arriving Friday, Jan. 31 and departing Monday, Feb. 3rd with late check-out. The package also throws in breakfast for 20 daily at Gaby Brasserie Française and transportation to and from the airport. Taxes, fees and gratuities are all included. But it will set you and your friends back $100,000. Omg. Not sure if you love the Broncos or Seahawks that much. But if you do, call (212) 354-8844 for reservations.

The Beverly Wilshire Will Kick Off Awards Season This Sunday With a Viewing Party

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 9500 Wilshire Boulevard [map], Beverly Hills, CA, United States, 90212
January 10, 2014 at 9:01 AM | by | Comments (0)

This Sunday, the 2014 Awards Season kicks off in Los Angeles with the 71st Golden Globes Awards ceremony (hosted by lovely ladies Tina Fey and Amy Pohler.) As they have been for more than 50 years, the Golden Globes will be held at the Beverly Hilton. But the Hilton isn't the only spot in town to go for some celeb-stalkingwatching.

Popping into the Four Seasons Los Angeles, the Peninsula Beverly Hills or the Beverly Hills Hotel will also increase your chances of seeing a star (hopefully, not a reality one.)

Yet there's an even better way to enjoy awards season without appearing like an over-eager fan but while still feeling like a part of the Hollywood movie-making magic --by indulging in a tasteful viewing party at the The Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel.

Starting with the Golden Globes this weekend and concluding with the Oscars on March 1st, the Beverly Wilshire will be hosting soirees in their BLVD bar and have partnered with Moet & Chandon Champagne to provide the bubbly. The full schedule is below. For table reservations, call (310) 385 3901. Need a room? The hotel has rooms available on Sunday for $615 a night which is actually pretty average for a Beverly Hills hotel during awards season.

Where to Stay for New Year's Eve 2013 in Chicago

December 18, 2013 at 3:35 PM | by | Comments (0)

What to do for New Year's Eve? That's the question that's on everyone's mind this week. After, "Omg, I was so drunk at the holiday office party. Do you think my coworkers noticed?" of course.

For those of you heading to Chicago, the rates are looking very DOABLE compared to New York and Miami. We see the Hotel Felix on Expedia for $169 on New Year's Eve while the luxe Langham Chicago is "only" $409 a night. Even The Ritz-Carlton is an affordable splurge at $295 on New Year's Eve. The priciest hotel we saw was the Trump at $495, still far less than the $1,000 room rates for hotels in NYC and Miami. Of course, Chicago will be freezing but these New Year's Eve parties below should warm you up!

Where to Stay for New Year's Eve 2013 in Miami

December 17, 2013 at 3:46 PM | by | Comment (1)

What to do for New Year's Eve? That's the question that's on everyone's mind this week. After, "Omg, I was so drunk at the holiday office party. Do you think my coworkers noticed?" of course.

For those of you heading to Miami, the rates are looking very similar to New York, that is to say they really expensive. The Hilton Bentley/South Beach is going for $1,299 on December 31 on Expedia.com. There are other smaller hotels open for one night but they are averaging about $300 a night. Also like NYC, most hotels are requiring a two-night stay. We found the Gale South Beach on Collins for $459 a night. The Surfcomber across the street is $629 a night while the Shore Club is about $729. The Lord Balfour is just $449 but apparently, there's only two rooms left at this price.

As we said yesterday, availability may change as we get closer New Year's Eve and rates could go down depending. But they could also go up. If you're holding out for a good deal, then you will be better off booking through HotelTonight or another last-minute hotel deal site.

On the other hand, if you're ready to party and ready to part with some money, we've got 5 hotels with happening parties to consider. Happy New Year!

Where To Stay for New Year's Eve 2013 in NYC

December 16, 2013 at 9:17 AM | by | Comment (1)

What to do for New Year's Eve? That's the question that's on everyone's mind this week. After, "Omg, I was so drunk at the holiday office party. Do you think my coworkers noticed?" of course.

For those of you heading to New York City, booking a one-night stay on New Year's Eve is going to be expensive. Just doing a quick look on Expedia.com showed outrageous room rates for that night like $949 for the Hilton Garden Inn in Times Square. Most hotels are requiring a two-night stay with rates averaging about $500 a night. Several hotels are going for over $1,000.

Availability may change as we get closer to the ball drop date, meaning there's a chance rates could go down if a lot of rooms are still open but that can be iffy. If you're holding out for a good deal, then you will be better off booking through HotelTonight or another last-minute hotel deal site.

On the other hand, if you're ready to party and ready to part with some money, we've got 5 hotels with both room packages to book and parties to attend. Happy New Year!

Dulé Hill 'Psychs' The Crowd Up at The Lexington Hotel's Grand Opening Party

Site Where: 511 Lexington Avenue [map], New York, NY, United States, 10017
October 18, 2013 at 9:08 AM | by | Comments (0)

It was all showbiz the other week at the grand opening party for The Lexington Hotel New York, a recently transformed historic midtown Manhattan property that was a happening spot back in the 1920s. It's now become part of Marriott's Auograph Collection.

Musicians and actors like Patti Labelle and Dorothy Lamour called The Lexington home while they toured, and it was the famous love nest of Joe Dimaggio and Marilyn Monroe, who spent nine-months living in an 18th floor suite that's been renamed "The Centerfield Suite".

But sticking with its jazz roots, the festivities were kicked off with a live performance from the cast of the upcoming Broadway jazz show "After Midnight", which was produced by nine-time Grammy Award winner, Wynton Marsalis. The show has only been previewed by President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama, once during a U.N. GA Summit reception at the Waldorf Astoria, so guests were lucky to have this special treat.

Courtyard By Marriott is Partying All Day Long For Its 30th Birthday Today

October 15, 2013 at 10:36 AM | by | Comments (0)

On October 15, 1983, Bill Marriott opened the very first Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Atlanta. When he posed for this picture, did he know that Courtyard would eventually grow to be the 12th largest hotel brand in the world and perhaps more importantly, the #2 most profitable brand for Marriott? (#1 is the Marriott flagship brand.)

Whatever Mr. Marriott's hotel spidey sense was feeling that day, Courtyard has accomplished a lot in 30 years and today, they are taking the day to celebrate.

At Courtyards around the world (and there are 1,000 in 38 countries), they are holding a global anniversary party with events in Hong Kong, Doha, Berlin, Mexico City and Atlanta, home of the first Courtyard. Additionally, in North America, the first 30 guests who check-in to a Courtyard will receive these commemorative Courtyard t-shirts. The party even continues over to social media. If you're birthday is today, you will also get a surprise Courtyard gift. Or you can just watch as 30,000 associates celebrate internally at Marriott with cakes, balloons and other festivities. Follow hashtag #Courtyard30 to party on with them.

In the meantime, here are some fun "Dirty Thirty" Courtyard By Marriott facts to read as well as a professional shots of their "Gen Next" rooms:
