What's It Like Being a Stash Hotel Rewards Partner?
Hotel loyalty programs is a buzzy-buzz topic nowadays, and one that's setting itself apart from the Marriott and Hyatt pack is Stash Hotel Rewards. What makes Stash stand out is that it isn't doling out points for mega chains. Instead, the loyalty program targets independent boutique hotels.
The nationwide roster of Stash members stretches from the Affinia Manhattan to the Riviera in Palm Springs. We wanted to find out about the hotel loyalty program from someone who knows. So we turned to brand ambassador Scott Grigelevich of the Lenox Boston, which has been involved with Stash since its May launch. He gave us the lowdown on what being a Stash member means for the hotel and its guests.

What's There to Prefer About Preferred Hotels & Resorts?
The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts
We've been not-so-casually looking at the different hotel collections out there these days as an alternative for booking hotels. Often times, these collections have their own loyalty programs for guests as well as guaranteed perks just for booking through their sites.* These perks range from room upgrades to free breakfast and free WiFi, at no extra cost.
Recently, we've checked out Kiwi Hotels, Leading Hotels of the World and Epoque Hotels. And today, we're exploring the Preferred Hotels & Resorts collection, who we fell in like with last week after getting a sneak peek from them about the upcoming Redbury Hotel in Hollywood.

Epoque Offers a New Loyalty Program for Boutique Hotels
Make bank by staying at places like Chicago's Hotel Sax.
Club Epoque may sound like the latest Hollywood all-night dance venue for hard-partying starlets like Lindsay Lohan, but it's actually the newest hotel loyalty program from the Epoque collection.
The way Club Epoque works is that for every stay at a member hotel, you'll earn 6 percent of the pre-tax room price to your bank. Once you accrue $50, you can start dipping into your bank and applying it directly to a reservation.

Why You Want to Follow The Leaders Club

This year we've been gaga for private sales and blind booking but sometimes we're not always in the mood to play hotel roulette and sometimes our wishy washy travel plans can't handle those strict payment policies-- fully paid, no refunds, no changes and no cancellations--that often come with private sale and secret hotel bookings. But that doesn't mean we want to pay full price.
Now, we're slowly starting to see that there's a definite advantage in belonging to hotel collections--members only deals!
Our newest membership is with The Leaders Club of The Leading Hotels of The World. Right now, they are offering their own private sale of 30 to 50 percent off hotels around the world for stays through the end of October. We spied 40 percent off at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo (about 321 Euros a night), 30 percent off at the Hotel Crillon in Paris (still about 600 Euros) and 50 percent off at The Plaza Athenee in New York City (We saw rates for $460 in two weeks.)

Affinia Hotels Joins Indie Hotel Loytalty Program, Stash Rewards
A stay at the Affinia Chicago can earn you some Stash.
Affinia Hotels is teaming up with hotel loyalty program newbie Stash Rewards. The brand joins properties like Boston's Lenox Hotel and Palm Springs' Riviera in the program for independent boutique hotels.
The one component of the program that's been lacking is there weren't enough hotels in big cities. Adding Affinia to the mix is helping Stash's stash of hotels. The program could still use a boost in cities like Miami, but snagging Affinia was a coup, since it has properties in Chicago and New York. Stash previously didn't have any presence in the two cities.

What the Heck Is the A Club and How Can We Join?
Stay at the Sofitel Rio, and you can join the A Club.
When we first heard about the A Club, we wondered whether it was anything like the A-Team. We hoped it had something to do with Bradley Cooper. Alas, the two aren't related. But we couldn't be too bummed because the A Club is actually the new loyalty program for Accor Hotels, and we love hotel loyalty programs just as much as A-Team's pretty Face.
A Club gives you rewards at more than 2,000 hotels worldwide, including the Sofitel brand. For every dollar or Euro spent at a Sofitel a Pullman, a Gallery Novotel, a Suite Novotel, a Mercure and an Adagio hotel, you'll earn two points. You get awarded one point for every dollar or Euro spent at Ibis or All Seasons hotels.

Book Now at a Morgans Hotel and Get Free WiFi During Your Stay

We've long had a sad face over the lack of complimentary wireless internet at Morgans Hotel Group and their typically too-high internet fees but there is a way to get around that this summer.
If you sign up with Morgans to create an account on their website and customize your profile, (i.e. include information that helps Morgans better understand their clientele), you can get free WiFi throughout your next stay.
You have to book your Morgans Hotel stay between July 1 and August 31 but other than that, the WiFi is totally free. We suggest visiting HotelChatter, Jaunted and VegasChatter during your free internet time but you may also want to hit up Morgan's new Tumblr blog.
So does this mean Morgans is getting closer to a loyalty program that would give you free WiFi if you join up? It seems like it! We totally approve of this too. Thompson Hotels, take note!
Create your account with Morgans here to get your free WiFi!

One-Month-Old Stash Hotel Rewards Adds Eight More to Its Indy Stable
Stash Hotel Rewards, the loyalty program for independent boutique hotels, marks its one-month birthday. It's got several reasons to celebrate, mainly because Stash has added eight hotels and five cities to its roster of participating properties.
We always support the little guy, but our sole gripe with the loyalty program at its launch was that it didn't have partner properties in major cities like Miami, Chicago and New York. Unfortunately, it still doesn't have any hotels in those cities, though the site says some are coming this summer for the latter two cities.

Celebrate the Aruba Marriott's Anniversary and Earn 15,000 Rewards Points
While the traditional gift for a 15th anniversary is usually crystal, the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino will give out rewards points instead—15,000 of them.
To get the 15,000 Marriott Rewards Points, you have to stay at the Aruba Marriott on August 15, the resort's birthday. If we're at the hotel on that day, we'd see if we could put the 15K points toward a beachside massage or maybe some poolside cocktails.

Would You Join a Loyalty Program for Independent Hotels?
A new loyalty program wants to steal hotel guests away from the big chains. What makes Stash Hotel Rewards different from the others is that it's a program for independent boutique hotels.
Although Stash—founded by travel and e-commerce vets from Expedia, Amazon, Microsoft and Zillow—tries to lure you away from big-chain hotels, it copies the model that places like Marriott use. It's free to enroll, and you earn five points for every dollar you spend at a partner hotel. Earn enough points and you can redeem them for free stays at any of the participating hotels.
The points don't expire and there aren't any blackout dates. Stash will also provide exclusive deals to members: it will match point bonuses to a your travel history and customize weekend getaway offers to your home city.

Have You Ever Earned Loyalty Points For Blind-Booking a Hotel Room?

Sleeping around may not be worth it if you can't earn loyalty points.
If you've been following our Adventures in Blind Booking, you would know that we are on a serious blind booking kick. It's all about the best deals, baby! But we have momentarily come down from our bargain-hunter's high to reflect upon a very serious issue--our loyalty program points.
When we Facebooked our love of blind booking, a fan of ours pointed out that while he loved getting the "awesome deals" on sites like Hotwire and Priceline, usually hotels will not give you loyalty points because you did not book through the hotel.
This is very true. Many hotel loyalty programs state this in their program's Terms and Conditions (See below.) Yet it's never been a big deal for us because we like to sleep around and so for the past few years our loyalty membership cards have collected dust in our desk drawer.
However, there have been exceptions.

The Points Guy: Our Own Personal Ryan Bingham
The other week we spent a Saturday afternoon lounging in the sun with our friend, Brian Kelly, at the rooftop pool of the Andaz West Hollywood. As usual, he had somehow managed to score a sweet suite at the hotel for the same price as a discounted standard room, and had flown out on special fare where he was earning thousands and thousands of bonus miles for a single trip.
Yes, Brian is basically Ryan Bingham from Up in the Air, except he isn't traveling the country firing people. Instead, he's helping people consolidate their scattered loyalty program points to get them the dream trips or hotel stays they actually want, and for less!
We decided to pick Brian's brain about the best rewards programs out there, what the average consumer can do to increase his rewards power, and some of the common mistakes we all make--all questions that have become even more important thanks to the tough economy.
After all, we all still want to take trips, we just might not have the cash flow to do so. Perfect timing, it turns out, too, since Brian has just launched his own consulting business to answer such questions: The Points Guy.
