Merry Christmas, It's a Trump Gift Card!

October 22, 2009 at 4:16 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

While it's a little too early for us to be writing about holiday gifts here at HotelChatter, we did think it was funny that Trump Hotels are now promoting gift certificates for their properties.

The certificates start at $50 and go up to $5,000 and they are only good for one property. So there's no hopping from New York to Vegas, unless you gift your special someone with two gift certificates.

Since we're not so keen on the Trump Las Vegas, we say you might be best either at the Trump Chicago, which just opened last year or bide your time for Trump Soho, opening February 1st. (Trump Waikiki is not available for a gift card just yet.)

The Five Best Gifts for Hotel Geeks

December 23, 2008 at 4:45 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

We here at HotelChatter have been keeping a running list on the Hotel Swag offered up by some of your favorite big-box and independent hotels alike. Some of these hotel retail products are unforgivable (a wall-mounted hair dryer from the Radisson). Some are quirky but cute (the Four Points old-timey apple peeler) and some are just downright strange (the ceramic hen from Sofitel.)

Yet there are some legit gifts that you can purchase from hotels. We rifled through the racks of hotel swag (online of course) to bring you the Five Best Gifts For Hotel Geeks.

We're still not sure if it’s a sign of desperation or just a really good marketing idea, but The Borgata, in Atlantic City is promoting Gift Cards for the holiday season. We've all seen gift cards for hotels, or perhaps a restaurant in a hotel but nothing for an entire casino hotel property before. Is business really getting this bad?

In one day this week, we received two separate emails from the Borgata's players club encouraging us to give the gift cards as gifts for the holiday in denominations from $25 to $500. They even offer three different designs, one for the Borgata, the WaterClub and their Spa Toccare.

Four Seasons Hotels Present Surprisingly Affordable Gift Ideas

November 14, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by KatieK | 0 Comments

Maybe inspired by their hometown boy Barack Obama’s populist message, Chicago’s Four Seasons Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton (also a Four Seasons Hotel) are presenting a holiday special that seems to--gasp!--be an attempt to speak to the common man with more-affordable-than-usual prices.

The “Twelve Days of Small Holiday Indulgences” includes 8 out of 12 holiday-themed perks that start under $100 and can be gifted via gift certificates.

We've been keeping tabs on hotels that offer gift cards and today we can add the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to the list.

The cards are available inside the hotel at the spa, the business center and Essentials gift shop. Up to $2,500 can be loaded onto the card and it can be used at "participating merchants at participating MGM MIRAGE Properties."

According to the website the card can be used towards accommodations, a wedding in the wedding chapel, most of the restaurants and nightlife spots, Criss Angel's BELIEVE show and pretty much all of the shopping. Sadly, you can't use it at the craps table.

Send Your Friends to Vegas With a Gift Card

April 30, 2008 at 9:00 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

While it's increasingly common for hotels to let you buy gift cards valid for accommodation or other hotel charges, maybe we don't want to be the one to choose where our friend or relative actually stays. If you're planning to send them to Vegas, there's now a solution, because the Vegas.com booking site has just launched the Vegas.com Gift Card.

Hotel Gift Cards: An Easy Hanukkah Gift or Stocking Stuffer

December 5, 2007 at 5:13 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Gift cards may be the easy way out when it comes to gift-giving but c'mon they are so frigging convenient, it's hard to say no. For starters, you can pick most gift cards up in the supermarket--if your local store has one of those "Gift Card Malls" like ours does that features cards from every store imaginable like Toys'R Us, Pottery Barn and Southwest.

Second, the gift card may seem impersonal but have you ever heard of someone throwing away a $50 card to Banana Republic or letting a $25 iTunes card collect dust in the closet? NO. People use these things and we are all about utility here. Anyways, enough of our ranting. Here are some hotel and travel gift cards that you can buy for all the people in your life that you don't care about to make a gift or special order a present.

· Ritz-Carlton: The luxury chain offers gift certificates in its hotel gift shops or online. You can even call it in old school at 1-800-371-GIFT.
· Hyatt Hotels: Hyatt gift cards can be used for lodging or dining and for other services charged to the rooms.
· Four Seasons Hotel: Big spenders here can gift someone with up to $100,000 in a Four Seasons gift card. (Note to self: Make good friends with rich people.)
· Days Inn: Now, back to earth. Days Inn also offer gift certificates.
· Travelocity Gift cards: if you don't want to specify a hotel chain for your loved one, get 'em a Travelocity card so they can pick and choose for themselves.

The Gift of Hotel Giving

December 19, 2006 at 9:20 AM | by Picky Chick | 0 Comments

It started in the 80s with Turtle's Music gift coins...(Flashback: Oh my gah, I get to buy the new Madonna "True Blue" album...totally awesome!).  Twenty years later, instead of a coin, you can get a little plastic card for just about anything on your wish list...even a stay at your favorite hotel.

If you're looking for a gift that's a safe bet, the Hyatt hotel gift card is a good choice.  If you're a big spending over-nighter, maybe the Four Seasons is more your style...and if you aren't a big spender, but want to "donate" your earnings, the Flamingo casino in Las Vegas may be the best option for you. All these hotels offer easy to purchase gift cards that may just solve that last minute shopping craze we always seem to get into.

Travelocity also came up with a great gift program where the card you purchase can be redeemed at over 30,000 hotels...how can you go wrong with that?  No matter your preference, there's a hotel room just a gift card away that's perfect for your loved one.

I want to get my dad a gift card for an American hotel chain to encourage him to travel a bit more. Hyatt seems like a decent one, but I was curious if you had any suggestions or opinions.

Good question. With JetBlue and Southwest getting heavy into the gift card game this year, it seems like a no-brainer for hotels to follow suit. So what do the big US hotel chains have to offer when it comes to gift cards?
