Be Part Of the Ben Folds Five Reunion At A Starwood Hotel

Any true Ben Folds Five fans will have already heard the news (which Mr. Folds announced himself via Twitter in January), but for the rest of you: the Ben Folds Five will be making their first album since 1999. And one of the places they'll be re-uniting onstage? The Westin Times Square.
We know what you're thinking...but before you go scratching your heads about why they would pick such a random concert venue for their reunion tour, know that this gig is actually part of a new live music program being launched by Starwood hotels all over the world. Titled "On Tour with SPG: Hear the Music, See the World," the promotion consists of notable bands either performing in, DJing at, or attending parties inside Starwood hotels—all for the enjoyment of (incredibly spoiled) SPG members.

Make Thanksgiving Plans Now: With Ricky Martin at the Fontainebleau

The joint was Pitbull's on Labor Day weekend, but Thanksgiving calls for an entirely different mood. That's why it will be Ricky Martin lighting up the Fontainebleau on November 26.
Just as it was with Pitbull, the Vegas-style mega-hotel has put together a slick menu of fan packages, tailored to your level of love for Ricky. The cheapest option is $329 a night, based on a three-night stay in a standard room, and including two general admission tickets to the concert, access to an open-bar hour, and a 'Bleau Live Fan amenity'.

One Way Of Getting Kate Moss To Your Party: The Kills Will Play Mondrian Soho's Opening Bash

We already know the Mondrian Soho is in its soft open, but the downtown hotel will throw an official opening party on March 10 featuring a set by The Kills. If history is any guide, the inevitable after party will be at Mr. H (and feature Kate Moss as a star guest, seeing as she's engaged to one of said Kills).
But we'd be more interested if the rockers took over the theatrical greenhouse of Imperial No. 9, the seafood spot from quasi-celeb chef Sam Talbot that New York magazine calls "probably the most out-there design we’ve seen since another movie-inspired eatery, FoodParc," at the Eventi hotel. It opened last night.
The drink list at the new spot is certainly out there, too. Zagat fills us in on cucumber foams, unfiltered apple cider, chai cordials, chamomile agave syrup and other oddities on cocktail guru John Lermayer's list. Will The Kills be ordering 'em up? We certainly would.

Free Music At The Ace Every Sunday This February

Next month, violin-hip-hop queen Emily Wells makes her debut at the Ace Hotel—over and over again! Every Sunday next month at 9pm, the always-packed hipster hangout will host the violinist-singer (made famous for her version of "Juicy," by rap legend Notorious BIG) in the lobby for a February residency. The performances will be free, so save your dollars for those overpriced cocktails—and expect a crowd.
Over the past few years, Wells has attracted tens of thousands of followers with her trademark looped violin trip-hop blues, and sees the performances as a "way to introduce myself to the city." (Wells recently moved from LA to NYC's East Village).

Behind the Hotel Music: What It's Like Playing in a Hotel

As of late, several Manhattan hotels have introduced new hotel concert series for guests and locals to attend. While we can't always expect Lady Gaga, we can expect something better than the too-trendy lobby trance sounds piped in on a CD. Now, have you ever wondered about the musicians you see in hotels playing for guests and other passersby? Well, wonder no more as Alex Schechter tells us about his recent musical residency at The Gershwin.
Starting in August, The Gershwin Hotel on E. 27th Street hosted my band Greene Girl for an artist residency program consisting of a weekly concert performed at noon in the main lobby.
Every Wednesday morning, we showed up at the piano, waited for the receptionist to hook up the PA system, played for an hour, and then left. Our sporadic audience was usually a mix of hotel guests waiting to check out, businessmen on laptops, and friends of ours.
The series was called "AM Serenades," though many had a difficult time understanding why a noontime show would be called "AM Serenades" and to be honest, we were never quite sure ourselves. But no matter, our intention was more straightforward: to offer some beautiful music in a beautiful setting, for anyone who happened to be passing through.

Here's Why You Should Hang Out at The Plaza's Oak Room on Wednesday Nights

After last year's debacle with Charlie Sheen and a call girl, New York's famed Plaza Hotel really needed to start 2011 on a good foot and a visit from regular guest Lady Gaga may have been just the trick.
Gaga returned to the hotel's Oak Room last night to give stunned diners an impromptu performance. But she didn't really look like her normal Gaga self with a blonde wig in a normal hairstyle, overdone white face powder and bombshell eye make-up.
However, that bondage, Frank N. Furter-inspired dress is definitely all Gaga. And anyone who may has been skeptical that it was really her, had their minds changed when she started singing. The Daily Mail reports:

Doug E. Fresh to Break It Down at The W DC on New Year's Eve
Hip-hop heads who weren't lucky enough to reserve the New Year's Eve package to see Jay-Z at Vegas' Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino have the chance to see an old school performer instead.
Doug E. Fresh will headline the NYE party at the W Washington DC. Maybe he'll even teach you how to Dougie.
Fresh, who was hip-hop's first human beatbox, will tear up the hotel's rooftop party. The P.O.V. bash will also include three DJs, five violin percussionists, an open bar from 8 to 10 p.m., and some gourmet bar bites from Jean-Georges.

Lauryn Hill to Sing at Gansevoort Park This New Year's Eve

The NY Post reports today that singer/part-time recluse Lauryn Hill will do a rare, live set at the Gansevoort Park's rooftop this New Year's Eve as the kick-off to their new music series "Live at Gansevoort Park." (See what you have reaped Rose Bar Sessions!
Yet while Hill's "Ex-Factor" might be, without a doubt, one of the best songs in the entire universe of music, we're a little surprised that the Gansevoort has gone with Lauryn for such a big night considering that she hasn't been so reliable in recent years regarding live performances.
But with Gansevoort expecting to live-stream the concert, we guess we can see for ourselves how she fares, without ever having to leave our home. You can do it girl!

Alexa Ray Joel Kicks off The Plaza's New Concert Series Tonight

Now that the Rose Bar at Gramercy Park has shuttered their secret, invite-only music sessions, The Plaza is at the ready to fill in the gap on the elite NYC music scene with their new Artist in Residence series in the hotel's famed Oak Room. (Perhaps they were inspired by Lady Gaga's impromptu performance?)
The first artist on the schedule is Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy and Christie Brinkley. The NY Post reports that her debut tonight is completely sold-out and that a "very special guest" is set to attend (we're gonna go with Billy.)
Alexa will also be performing on December 27, January 3 and January 10. The shows start at 9:30pm with dinner available at 8pm. Tickets cost $100 a piece and can be purchased by calling 212-758-7777.

Renaissance Kicks Off Its RLife LIVE Program With Robin Thicke In New York

First they teamed up with Blue Ribbon Restaurant Group to bring guests some of the most delicious fried chicken on the planet. Now, Renaissance Hotels are attracting celebs and musos, like Robin Thicke, Minka Kelly, Solange Knowles, and Kourtney Kardashian with her plus one.
These folks were all at the Renaissance New York Times Square last night but being skinny celebs all, we're pretty sure they weren't there for the fried chicken. Nope, they were helping Renaissance launch its new RLife Live program, a series of curated events such as intimate acoustic performances, listening parties, and pre- and post-concert parties.

John Legend and the Roots Will Wake Up The Capella Pedregal Hotel
We can't think of a better way to spend a December evening than on the beach in Cabo. But throw in John Legend and the Roots, and we're swooning. The beachside Capella Pedregal will turn into a concert venue and host the hot hip-hop acts on December 11 under the stars. And guests will even get a chance to meet the musicians—swooning again.
Legend, the Roots and special guest Joss Stone will perform on a makeshift stage that will float above one of the resort pools while guests watch from love seats and chaise lounges. Promoting their joint album, Wake Up!, Legend and the legendary Roots will kick off a live music concert series at the hotel.
