The Holiday Inn Express at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia is now officially open for business after a four-million dollar renovation converted the property over from a Comfort Inn. All 184 guest rooms were retouched while the lobby was completely remodeled. A business center and exercise room were also added.
We told you before how we were a little disappointed that the area didn't draw a sexier hotel, but that all said, it doesn't change how good the location is. In addition to the views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, guests of the Holiday Inn Express will be in good shape when it comes to visiting Independence Mall, Old City, and Penn's Landing -- all are within walking distance or a short cab ride. The area is also prime lodging during the summer when concerts are held at Festival Pier or across the river in Camden (you can take a ferry right to the venue).
Here's what the new hotel looks like now according to its website, but we'll try to swing by soon and check it out for ourselves.

This might make you think twice about ever answering the phone in your hotel room again. A woman staying in a Holiday Inn Express near Baltimore was the victim of a prank caller who, citing a "gas leak," successfully tricked her into using a toilet bowl lid to trigger the sprinkler system, which then caused her room, as well as a few others, to flood.
According to WBAL, firefighters responded to the call on Friday night, assuming there must have been some emergency. Instead, all they found was a woman in a wet hotel room sheepishly holding a toilet bowl lid.
Meanwhile, the prank caller, who called the hotel a few hours later to claim responsibility, is part of a nationwide prankster network that apparently likes to target places like hotels and fast food restaurants. Though we like to believe our readers are too smart to ever fall for a stunt like this, we feel this might be a good time to state the obvious: always check with the Front Desk anytime someone claiming to work for the hotel shows up at your door or starts calling you. Better yet, just don't answer the phone at all—that's what we have cell phones for.

Normally when we think of the toiletry offerings at Holiday Inn Hotels, we think of soap, shampoo, lotion and if we're lucky conditioner. But at the Holiday Inn Express at the Dublin Airport, the hotel offers guests additional amenities like shaving cream, disposable razor, toothpaste, comb, toothbrush, cotton wool and even special stuff for the ladies.
This "Forgot Something" was snapped by HotelChatter Flickr contributor (UggBoy♥UggGirl) and we've found out that all Holiday Inn Express hotels now have the "Forgot Something" extra amenities program (and have been for a few years now.)

Little did we know of the crazy hotel activity that was taking place right across town! A recent stroll down West 36th St between Fifth and Sixth Avenues revealed no less than three hotels going up right next to each other along the south side of this block, including a Holiday Inn Express, a Hyatt Place, and an unnamed "boutique hotel." Talk always turns cold when the subject of Manhattan hotel over-saturation comes up. But the question remains: does this city really need more of them? Does it make a difference if it's a gay-themed hotel in Hell's Kitchen, or a Holiday Inn Express on W 36th St?
If there was ever a hotel prom, India would be the hottest girl to take this year. After Starwood and Marriott both announced their intentions to open more hotels in India (W and Fairfield Inn respectively), now comes news that the Intercontinental Hotel Group will build 19 Holiday Inn Express hotels in India over the next five years.
The WSJ has the breakdown:
The new hotels, which will add approximately 3,300 rooms to IHG's current India development pipeline of more than 10,000 rooms in 46 hotels, will be primarily located in India's major and secondary cities including New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and are expected to open by 2016. IHG currently has 12 hotels open in India, comprising 2191 rooms.
It's not easy to find a last-minute hotel along the route of New York City's famous St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Irish (and wannabes) are serious about the parade and festivities, filling all of the nearby hotels to make it easy to drunkenly stumble home after a nonstop party.
But for you procrastinators, the Holiday Inn Express New York Midtown, right off the Fifth Avenue parade route, still has rooms available on the holiday starting at $344 a night.
