Hell's Kitchen, Top Chef, The Chopping Block — how do we keep all these cooking reality shows straight? Oh, here's how: one of these shows has ol' Gordon Ramsay screaming in contestants' faces and calling them donkeys and stuff. And that show (Hell's Kitchen, in case we've lost you) had its season five finale last night — complete with a viewing party at the Borgata Hotel and Casino to appropriately celebrate the grand prize.

And what was this grand prize, you wonder? Well (spoiler for the Tivo-ers) winner Danny Veltri scored himself a chef's job at Atlantic City's Borgata inside the brand new resto Fornelletto Cucina Italiano under exec celeb chef Stephen Kalt, who also runs the kitchen at Corsa Cucina at Wynn Las Vegas.

'Hell's Kitchen' Descends on The Borgata Atlantic City

Tip: Fast forward to the 5:07 mark for their trip to The Borgata

Anybody watching this fifth season of Hell's Kitchen with angry chef Gordon Ramsay knows all too well about the final grand prize awaiting the winner: a restaurant of their own within the The Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. This most recent episode not only revealed the unfinished, massive space, but also gave viewers of the show a peek at the features of The Borgata and a glimpse inside the hotel's pimpin' private jet.

Aside from the jet and the restaurants, we learn from the hotel's Director of Marketing that The Borgata "launched the culinary revolution in Atlantic City" and was named a "Foodie Hotel" by Forbes.com. Big boasts from the hotel, but then we get a tour of the hotel's other restaurants from Bobby Flay and Wolfgang Puck to prove that they do have the big-name restaurants.

Perhaps now we'll have to start watching Hell's Kitchen, if only to see at whose place we'll able to eat in a year or so. Fast forward towards the end of the video to check out the gigantic space allotted to the winner. At a point, one of the finalists asks the Director of Marketing "how many square feet is this?" to which the Director replies, "more than you can use, I bet." No fooling; this is a huge new venture for a hotel in a city already struggling in the economy.

Gordon Ramsay Also in Name Only at the Trianon Palace

Go To The Hotel's Web

March 16, 2009 at 9:29 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

On the heels of the news that the Gordon Ramsay restaurant inside the London West Hollywood hotel will exist in name only, comes this report that Ramsay's restaurant inside the Waldorf-Astoria Collection hotel in Versailles, The Trianon Palace, has also been sold. But while the restaurant under his bleeping eye will have closed (just under a year of operation), his name will live to see another day.

As before, the establishment will retain his name and the hard-nosed chef will continue as a consultant. Ramsay's empire of over 30 restaurants in a dozen countries has been under increasing financial stress since last fall.

While the private company refuses to discuss its financial health, it is clear the chef is shedding properties quickly.

Ramsay has several restaurants in hotels, most notably his Maize restaurant at the Marriott Grosvenor Square and a new outpost at the One & Only Cape Town. We're guessing the recent selling off of his restaurants probably doesn't mean very good news for his own hotel which is to have only 10 rooms, but two eateries.

Gordon Ramsay at the London LA In Name Only

March 10, 2009 at 12:05 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

This bit of news sucks for celeb chef Gordon Ramsay and for all the foodies left in LA. The Gordon Ramsay restaurant at the London West Hollywood has been sold.

Eater LA says the sale happened because Gordon Ramsay has some serious money woes. Apparently, "Kitchen Nightmares" and "Hell's Kitchen" can't pay the restaurant bills. And Eater says the hotel's restaurant was failing to gain some traction.

a source said that crowds have been sparse, and that diners expected to see the celebrity chef: "People would come in and ask for him and it was embarrassing to have to tell them he wasn’t here." In fact, other sources say that things have gotten so slow at the restaurant that staff often outnumbered customers.

The hotel will however keep the Gordon Ramsay name and Ramsay will reportedly have creative control and will have input on the new menu selection. But when you're eating there, definitely do not expect ole Gordo himself to serve you. It's such a shame really as we loved that dining space quite a bit.

Gordon Ramsay's Staff Sleeps On The Floor, Not In The Hotel

You know how Gordon Ramsay acts like a total arsehole when he’s on TV? We were hoping it was all an act, but now we’re not so sure if his level of staff training is anything to go by.

According to today’s London Lite newspaper, staff at Ramsay’s superposh Maze restaurant at the Marriott in Grosvenor Square were snowed in on Monday, and couldn’t get home.

But instead of shacking up in some of the 236 rooms the hotel has to offer, they ended up sleeping on the restaurant floor because their bosses refused to pay for rooms – despite their having negotiated the rate down from £274 to just £50 ($73).

One & Only Cape Town To Open April 4th

January 27, 2009 at 11:04 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Lovers of One & Only Resorts (mainly the famous and the wealthy) will be thrilled to know that the resort group's newest location is opening April 4th in Cape Town, South Africa.

One & Only Cape Town is described as a "urban chic waterfront resort" in the heart of Victoria & Alfred Waterfront which will have killer views of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The crescent-shaped, seven-storey Marina Rise building will house but more accommodations and the One & Only Spa can be found on two private islands in the middle of the waterway.

Generous interior spaces are adorned with fabrics and furnishings recalling the warm, muted tones of Africa’s savannahs, with bright splashes of colour paying tribute to the land’s vibrant personality.

All rooms and suites are indulged by the discreet yet attentive services of a dedicated butler, 24-hours a day. Sumptuously appointed oversized baths are complete with rain shower, private water closet and dual vanity.

Those marina rooms are also being touted as the largest hotel rooms in Cape Town. Even better? Each room has "expansive glass doors that lead onto private balconies" for maximum killer view appreciation.

Gordon Ramsay Likes the Hotel Next to His Kitchen

Making waves across the pond over the weekend were the tabloid reports that celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay had a seven-year affair with a high class escort lady, Sarah Symonds.

The Telegraph UK reports that Ramsay and the woman would meet up at the Marriott Grosvenor Square, which is right next to his Maze restaurant. Actually, the restaurant is part of the hotel itself. And its sounds kinda like kinky stuff went down.

On the second occasion the woman was seen visiting a sex shop in Soho beforehand to buy the legal drug amyl nitrate and Ramsay is said to have spent an hour and a quarter in her £390-a-night Mayfair hotel room.

We take it that the Marriott does not offer in-room sex kits. Also, Ramsay must have gotten a discount on that hotel room, right? That's like $600.

For now, Ramsay maintains that he did not cheat on his wife, saying he was set up and went so far to pose for photos with his wife, Tana, yesterday outside their home. However, if it is true we find it interesting how Marriotts seem to be top for affairs.

Australian Hotel Gets a New Gordon Ramsay Restaurant

November 17, 2008 at 9:15 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

Although Aussies are pretty relaxed about a few dirty words flying about, they’re going to get more soon when Gordon Ramsay starts a Maze restaurant in the newest part of the Crown hotel complex.

Scheduled to open in 2010, the third hotel within the Crown complex will be the largest in Australia, so there should be plenty of guests for Ramsay’s eatery. Although it’s the first step for Ramsay’s eating kingdom Down Under, there are already hints that he’ll be looking to expand across the country.

Australians should be flattered to hear that Ramsay reckons there are enough good chefs in the country to find the right one to run his new restaurant: apparently he said “I’d be stupid not to employ a local Aussie”. Actually, we’re guessing that’s the censored version, but we get the drift.

Gordan Ramsay Shows Connaught Hotel How *&%#ing Mature He Is

October 3, 2008 at 10:56 AM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

Gordan Ramsay got into a bit of a %&*#ing spat (how unusual for him) with London's Connaught Hotel last year, which resulted in him closing his fairly successful restaurant on the property. And apparently it ain't over til it's over.

Yesterday's Page Six reported that his new restaurant concept York & Albany -- which will open on Monday and also feature 10 luxury hotel rooms (because running a restaurant kitchen and running a hotel can't be that different if you're a celebrity, right?) -- has a hot shout-out to the Connaught on its menu: he "tells the Times of London he'll serve a dish there called the 'Two Fingers to the Connaught.'"

We hope it's a flambéd dessert or something, because revenge is sweet and it's probably even sweeter if it's lit on fire. Or whatever.

Mature, though, G-dawg. Really.

Hell's Kitchen Winner To Start Executive Chef Gig at the London West Hollywood

Gordon Ramsay has always promised the winner of the second season of his Hell's Kitchen show an executive chef gig at his restaurant inside the London West Hollywood Hotel, and now that time has come for winner Christina Machamer.

Machamer, a 25-year-old St. Louis native who was still in the midst of finishing Culinary School when she filmed the show, had the least experience of all the contestants. Ramsay, for now, has confidence in Christina's ability to helm the kitchen:

"Christina had the least amount of experience coming in, but I sensed something special," he said. "She had the best potential of any contestant."

We just dined at Gordon Ramsay the other night and were perfectly content with our dishes. Yet maybe Christina will bring some heat into the kitchen when she takes over.

Last night we were able to snag some reservations to the Gordon Ramsay restaurant inside the London West Hollywood.

The restaurant has received some mixed reviews from food blogs and critics alike. But we wanted to experience it firsthand for ourselves. Fortunately, this hotel doesn't suffer from any CUT reservations backlog. We were able to get prime seating at 8pm.

Granted, it was a Monday night but still it's refreshing to have a desired time at a hot restaurant actually accommodated.

David Beckham May Have Been the Yummiest Piece of Meat at Ramsay's London WeHo Opening

Go To The Hotel's Web

Igniting the hearts of female foodies the world over, David Beckham arrived at the official opening of Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at the London West Hollywood last night dressed like . . .  a waiter.

When we first caught a glimpse of these photos, we seriously considered forking over the massive amounts of cash and butt kissing it would take to hop a plane and get into the opening (perhaps he'd notice if we strolled in fashionably late), but our dreams were semi-crushed when we learned that Beckham was not, in fact, serving food. Apparently, he was just dressed festively for the occasion.

Inspired idea: someone should open a restaurant that requires all the waiters to wear David Beckham masks. We'd eat there every single night. Yum.
