Viva Gansevoort: NYC Party Hotel to Bring Brand to Vegas

After striking out in Miami and long after ditching plans for an LA location, Gansevoort Hotels has landed in a pretty spectacular place--Las Vegas. Specifically, the old Bill's Gambling Hall on the Las Vegas Strip.
On Friday, it was announced that Caesars Entertainment, the parent company of Caesars Palace, Paris Bally's, Bill's and a bunch of other casino hotels, would be turning Bill's into the Gansevoort Las Vegas. USA Today reported:
The Old West-style casino hotel, which closed last month, will reopen in January as the Gansevoort Las Vegas, with rates starting at $249 a night. The building's currently in the midst of a $185 million renovation that will transform the guest rooms, casino space, restaurants and public areas into stylish, upscale spaces.

CitizenM Times Square Isn't Happening 'Til 2013 (And Other News)

There's tons of New York hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.
· CitizenM Times Square Is On Track For Summer 2013: European-based budget hotel chain CitizenM have been circling for a while now on a yet-to-open CitizenM Times Square property on 50th and Broadway. At the beginning of 2011, we were told the brand was shooting for a 2012 opening in Times Square (which obviously never happened). Now, CitizenM executive Michael Levie tells USA Today that construction is well underway, and that the 24-story, 240-room tower is set to open by next summer. What else? The company is also planning a second NYC location in Soho, set to open the following year.

Chris Brown Sneaks Into, And Back Out Of, Rihanna's NYC Hotel

Just one day after multiple sources say they caught Rihanna and Chris Brown canoodling at Meatpacking District nightclub Griffin, the troubled pair seem to have elevated their relationship status from "it's complicated" to "we're sharing a hotel suite."
On Tuesday evening, photographers caught Brown sheepishly exiting the Gansevoort Park Avenue, which, as we know, is where Rihanna likes to stay whenever she's in NYC. While not exactly the most luxurious digs in the city, those dark interiors make it easy to sneak around unnoticed.
Or at least, that's probably what Chris Brown was hoping...

Your Guide To the Hotel Blogs That Are Killin' It These Days

"Room 100," a lifestyle blog by Thompson Hotels just won an award. Why should you care? Well, there are a growing number of these artsy e-narratives, which attempt to embody the specific culture of their respective hotels—and which are essentially modern versions of the outdated hotel magazine.
We've covered a few of 'em in the past. But seeing how they're all going off and winning awards, we figured now would be a good time to recap and re-examine few of our favorites, starting with...
GANSEVOORT: Just like at the hotels themselves, the Gansevoort Hotel Blog (a Tumblr, in case you were wondering) is all about image, with the blog's homepage a pastiche of pretty looking vignettes—a ballroom, a Porsche, and the odd Gansevoort event promo—lifted from various places around the internet. It won't tell you anything about the hotel, but it'll give you something to talk about when you get there.

Gansevoort Park's Pool Party Scene is Too Much for the Neighbors

When the Gansevoort Park Avenue hotel first opened back in 2010, we were pumped about their rooftop pool scene, Plunge, which is spread out over three levels and includes a 40-ft heated indoor-outdoor glass-enclosed, swimming pool.
Yet some neighbors who live near the Gansevoort are less than thrilled about the hotel's Sunday pool parties which only run from 3:30 to 8:30pm, but thanks to loud music and drunk partygoers, effectively kill any plans for a quiet, relaxing, Sunday at home. One neighbor told the NY Post:
"I try to not be home on Sundays. The last thing you want are a bunch of crazy people with loud techno music until 8 or 9 p.m.,” said frustrated local Greg Housset, 24, looking down from his apartment Sunday at the mob of hard-partying revelers packed like sardines on the hotel’s pool deck as turntable star DJ Chuckie spun booming dance tunes.
“Even when the windows are closed, you feel like there’s a sub-woofer in your apartment."
Eeee. We can't even imagine what that noise must be like if you're trying to rest up in your hotel room at the Gansevoort.

The Out NYC Spells 'Ktchn' Weird, The Gansevoort Gets A New Toy

We thought we'd be done, for a while, at least, announcing new hotel restaurants in New York City. But of course, we're not, as New York never slows down for a second, and keeping up with the hotel scene is like trying to start a conversation with a squirrel: the darn things just move too fast!
Anyway, this week saw the opening of two new hotel kitchens, and one of them is actually called Ktchn, though spelled without the "i" for extra cool points. That's the New American eatery adjacent to the lobby at The Out NYC, and, thankfully, Ktchn will be bean bag-free.

Something Sure Looks Familiar About The Gansevoort's New Artwork...

This photograph was shot two feet from where it sits now on the wall in Suite 1108
Another month, another NYC hotel unveiling a full-property renovation. This time, we were checking out the new look of The Gansevoort, its re-designed penthouse, and, more importantly, some cool new artwork in the rooms.
Photographer Deborah Anderson (if you haven't heard of her, you've certainly heard of her clients—George Clooney, Pink, Elton John, to name a few) was given the task of creating new artwork for the hotel, and she took her job title of "artist-in-residence" quite literally.
Over the course of two days in October, Anderson set up a photo shoot in two eleventh-floor suites, subtly weaving in elements from those rooms into the photographs themselves. As a result, certain pieces of furniture (curtains, couches, and—yes—toilets) have now been immortalized in the glamorous images guests find as they wander through the hotel.

Gansevoort Miami Beach Finally Drops The Gansevoort and is Now Known as The Perry

It's lights out for The Gansevoort in Miami Beach
Nearly two years after the Gansevoort South/Miami Beach actually ceased to be a Gansevoort Hotel, we've now got word that the hotel has changed its name and will also get started on some much-needed renovations.
Miami-based tipster @DeeTCL tells us the hotel is no longer bank-owned, that Starwood Capital (not Starwood of the W Hotels) has moved in and that the hotel is going by the name, The Perry. Renovations will start soon and will be done in two years. However, despite Starwood's involvement, Coral Hospitality will remain on board as the management company. Already, the Gansevoort's website seems to be defunct while the perrysouthbeachhotel.com is up and running.

3 Reasons To Snag A Room For Hotel Week

We don't know about you, but the post-holiday void has left us in need of a little diversion, so we're just going to play along with all this Hotel Week business—however much it feels like a bootleg version of New York's more established Restaurant Week. Here to bolster a select batch of NYC hotels through the dreaded January slow season, the nine-day promotion starts today.
And to help you get excited, here are a few tips on ways to get the best bang for your buck.
#1. By saving money on the room, you can relax (read: spend) a little more at the hotel restaurant. For example, Lexington Brass, the glazed brick-lined brasserie on the ground floor of Hyatt 48Lex, has made a point of luring guests with delicious comfort food items like buttermilk fried chicken, deviled eggs with caviar, and, of course, our favorite, the jelly-filled doughnut pancakes.

Where Will You Be Staying During New York's First-Ever 'Hotel Week?'

That's right. Most of you have probably heard of Restuarant Week, a promotional period that falls twice a year (winter and summer) in New York City, giving restaurants a chance to make up prix-fixe menus and welcome in a whole new set of customers. Well, now hotels are starting to get in on the action.
The first-ever NYC hotel week will run for nine days, from January 6-15, with rates starting at $100. Nevermind the fact that the whole thing was decided spur-of-the-moment by a hotel PR firm—we say, if the price is right, we'll jump on board. Because once the holidays have come and gone, and "searching for Christmas trees" is no longer a valid excuse for poking our heads inside random hotels, we're gonna need something to lift our spirits. And it might as well be $200/night rooms at Hyatt 48Lex.

If You Pay Someone To Compliment You, Does It Still Count?

This winter, both Gansevoort Meatpacking and Gansevoort Park Ave are battling Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) with a new promotional package that includes things like a duplex penthouse suite, a tropical cocktail, vitamin D-infused facial, and beach attire for hanging out in your room. For many people, this might just be enough to lift the heavy winter blues.
But Gansevoort's not stopping there. Taking all precautions, the hotel has also decided to photoshop pictures of you with Santa Claus. And provide you with a "friend for the day" (it's exactly how it sounds). Or, even, if that glum mood just won't pick up, to offer a Compliment Concierge that will shower you with praise throughout your entire stay—by the end of which, no doubt you'll be positively elated.
If not slightly stuck-up.
