What do we love more than hotel openings? Surprise hotel openings!

We had no idea that Gansevoort Hotel Group was planning an oceanfront resort in the Dominican Republic but here it is!

The Gansevoort Playa Imbert on the country's north coast will be opening on December 15 with just 48 luxury suites, in one and two-bedroom loft layouts, along with three-bedroom apartments and a handful of four-bedroom penthouses, each with their own private rooftop jacuzzi. But you should know, the property was previously The Ocean Club Luxury Residences and Gansevoort is making it over into a hotel.

The Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC has a new, permanent hotel guest but this gal is unlikely to cause a scene or skip out on her hotel bill. Meet ALICE, the Gansevoort's new app.

ALICE stands for A Life Improving Customer Experience and when you stay at The Gansevoort, ALICE should bring you everything you want at the touch of a button. Such as: ordering room service from the airport, requesting turndown service, making on or off-site dinner reservations, booking a spa treatment, scheduling an in-room blowout, and reserving bottle service at the hotel's top-level Plunge Bar + Lounge. You can even have your pet's wishes granted by Alice too, including a personalized pet bed and name tag. Cute and convenient.

The ALICE hotel app is available in the iTunes App Store but it's also accessible on your phone, table and desktop right here. Sorry, it cannot call up models to your room.

Rates at The Gansevoort start at around $325 a night but ALICE is free!

We'll be posting quirky cocktails, boozy trends, unique menus and even recipes so you can recreate your favorite hotel drink at home. We expect everyone will be getting a bit tipsy over the next couple of weeks! But don't forget to tip your bartenders, in this case, us.

1) We’ll start at the nautically-themed Maritime Hotel, found in the Chelsea on the edge of Meatpacking District at 363 West 16th Street. La Bottega trattoria and lounge serves the basil-rich La Primavera cocktail.

These Five New London Hotels Are All Heading for Shoreditch

August 4, 2014 at 10:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

We’ve been heading east so often recently to scope out the latest London hotels news that we thought it was time to do a quick roundup of what we have on our radar in the Shoreditch (and Shoreditch-adjacent) area. Here are five new hotels that are likely to open their doors in the next few years, though some we’d be much more inclined to put our money on than others.

1. M by Montcalm Shoreditch: is it happening? Looking at the construction we saw just weeks ago, we’d say yes, but timing we think will be late spring to summer next year. From a brand perspective, who knows at this point, whether Montcalm will stick or Virgin or someone else swoops in and picks it up, we’ll have to find out. Location is just north of Old Street roundabout.

Gansevoort Or Not, This Is Achenbaum's New London Hotel

Where: 45 Curtain Road, London, United Kingdom
January 6, 2014 at 8:46 AM | by | Comments (0)

Michael Achenbaum’s new hotel in London’s Shoreditch may not have an official name yet, but we can show you where it will be, what it looks like today and (most likely) will look like once it’s finished in 2015.

In fact, the above rendering even has a name (“Hoxton Suites”) on the façade, but we won’t take that to mean much for the moment: construction has barely started, and besides, if Achenbaum decides to go with something other than Gansevoort, we’d like to think it would be something more imaginative than Hoxton Suites? What’s more, the same rendering exists with the words “Bravo Shoreditch” where above it says Hoxton Suites, so make of that what you will.

Gansevoort Founder Michael Achenbaum Now Planning a Hotel in London

December 16, 2013 at 6:17 AM | by | Comments (0)

UPDATE: Michael Achenbaum of the Gansevoort Hotel Group has partnered with Douglaston Development, SUSD and Hondo Enterprises to develop this new hotel but a name has not been selected at this time. So it may not be a Gansevoort branded hotel. But we hope it is, for the rooftop pool party's sake.

Gansevoort Hotels may have crapped out in Las Vegas but they've already got their sights on a new city--LONDON.

In this news report on tech firms investing in London, there was a little tidbit that said the Gansevoort Hotel Group (not a tech firm obviously) "will develop a new £60 million hotel in Shoreditch that will cater for East London’s entrepreneurial community, creating at least 150 jobs."

Shoreditch is clearly a hot neighborhood, with an Ace Hotel and a Soho House (called Shorditch House) already in place. So it makes sense that Gansevoort Hotels would open up here. But will it actually happen? If so, when? We put in a line to the Gansevoort's PR reps and they confirmed the project to us.

Keep reading below for all the details!

These Hotel Rooftop Bars Don't Stop for Winter

November 19, 2013 at 12:14 PM | by | Comments (0)

Refinery Hotel
The Refinery Rooftop is partitioned into three sections: indoor, outdoor and indoor/outdoor. We can't wait to watch the snow falling against the retractable glass roof over the indoor-outdoor section while sipping a new fall cocktails by resident spirit sorcerer, Alex Ott -- we like the Fall Spice Margarita.

Gansevoort Park
The Gansevoort Park Rooftop features a 40-ft indoor/outdoor heated rooftop swimming pool with wrap-around terraces, indoor/outdoor fireplaces and striking city views of the Empire State Building. For the truly winter-averse, the Park Lounge offers an indoor retreat floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Park Avenue.

Gansevoort Meatpacking
The partying at the Plunge Rooftop Bar + Lounge at Gansevoort Meatpacking never stops -- not even in the freezing winter thanks to its indoor/outdoor terrace with retractable glass roof.

The James
A truly year-round destination, Jimmy at the James has cozy fireplaces to keep you warm -- before or after making use of the private rooftop pool and outdoor showers.

Once Again, Gansevoort's Plans to Head West Are Squashed

October 21, 2013 at 8:48 AM | by | Comments (0)

Over the weekend, major, major, MAJOR hotel news happened--The Gansevoort Las Vegas, which was to be built from the remains of the Strip's Bill's Gambling Hall, was officially dropped by Caesars Entertainment. As VegasChatter reports, the why of it all is pretty messy. (When is it ever clean?)

Essentially, Caesars is eager to bring a new casino to Massachusetts but in doing their background checks, Massachusetts was not impressed with Caesars' Gansevoort project, namely because of an investor with alleged ties to the Russian mob. So Caesars, in an effort to appease Massachusetts, dropped the Gansevoort partnership. Buh-bye. Wipes hands.

So now, what will happen to the boutique hotel, which is currently under construction? Word is that it will move ahead with a new name (The "Real" Caesars Palace perhaps?) but the 188 sexy hotel rooms along with a rooftop nightclub and pool area created by Vegas club king, Victor Drai, and a restaurant from Food Network's Giada De Laurentiis will remain.

March 18, 2013 at 3:06 PM | by | Comments (0)

After striking out in Miami and long after ditching plans for an LA location, Gansevoort Hotels has landed in a pretty spectacular place--Las Vegas. Specifically, the old Bill's Gambling Hall on the Las Vegas Strip.

On Friday, it was announced that Caesars Entertainment, the parent company of Caesars Palace, Paris Bally's, Bill's and a bunch of other casino hotels, would be turning Bill's into the Gansevoort Las Vegas. USA Today reported:

The Old West-style casino hotel, which closed last month, will reopen in January as the Gansevoort Las Vegas, with rates starting at $249 a night. The building's currently in the midst of a $185 million renovation that will transform the guest rooms, casino space, restaurants and public areas into stylish, upscale spaces.

CitizenM Times Square Isn't Happening 'Til 2013 (And Other News)

October 23, 2012 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

There's tons of New York hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· CitizenM Times Square Is On Track For Summer 2013: European-based budget hotel chain CitizenM have been circling for a while now on a yet-to-open CitizenM Times Square property on 50th and Broadway. At the beginning of 2011, we were told the brand was shooting for a 2012 opening in Times Square (which obviously never happened). Now, CitizenM executive Michael Levie tells USA Today that construction is well underway, and that the 24-story, 240-room tower is set to open by next summer. What else? The company is also planning a second NYC location in Soho, set to open the following year.

Chris Brown Sneaks Into, And Back Out Of, Rihanna's NYC Hotel

Just one day after multiple sources say they caught Rihanna and Chris Brown canoodling at Meatpacking District nightclub Griffin, the troubled pair seem to have elevated their relationship status from "it's complicated" to "we're sharing a hotel suite."

On Tuesday evening, photographers caught Brown sheepishly exiting the Gansevoort Park Avenue, which, as we know, is where Rihanna likes to stay whenever she's in NYC. While not exactly the most luxurious digs in the city, those dark interiors make it easy to sneak around unnoticed.

Or at least, that's probably what Chris Brown was hoping...
