The new Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel

UPDATE: Gansevoort Park is having some opening issues. Book the original Gansevoort instead.

Hotels are booking up fast for US Open tennis tournament and some might even be sold-out. In fact, The Westin Times Square, whose US Open package we wrote about last week, is already booked up from August 31-September 2 and again on September 4. If you want a room there, you better secure it now.

However, there are some hotels with wide availability--specifically at the original Gansevoort Hotel and its about-to-open sister Gansevoort Park Avenue.

Both hotels are offering a "Gans, Set, Match" package from August 30 to September 12 starting at $462 a night and which includes overnight accommodations, two Gansevoort caps, complimentary champagne and sliders at the rooftop pool, two seat cushions for the matches, two Lacoste polo shirts and unlimited Weekly Metro Cards to get you to and from the courts. You can also purchase tennis tickets through the Gansevoorts for an additional cost.

One of the hotel's rooftop lounges, The Blue Room, will be located on the 18th floor.

There's a silver lining in store for the Gansevoort Hotel Group. Despite the difficulties at the Gansevoort South, the upcoming Gansevoort Park Ave South is still on track for a Summer 2010 opening. We last heard it would be in June but an official opening announcement has given it a broad Summer opening time schedule instead.

The main attraction at Gansevoort Park, a 19-story hotel with 249 guestrooms, will be its heated indoor-outdoor rooftop pool and tri-level rooftop with unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. There will also be an exhale Spa on-site, an Italian restaurant from The One Group called Aselina, a duplex corner retail space and a Cutler salon. (Cutler is also the toiletry brand used within Gansevoort hotels.)

It's Official: Gansevoort Hotel Group No Longer Managing Gansevoort South

The other week we learned that The Gansevoort Hotel Group was suing an affiliate of Credit Suisse, who now owns the Gansevoort South Hotel, challenging their decision to drop Gansevoort Hotels as the hotels' management group. GHG was also upset that the new management group put in its place was allowed to use the name Gansevoort, even though they clearly have nothing to do with GHG.

However, it seems there's a licensing agreement that enables Credit Suisse to continue using the Gansevoort name. There's still a lawsuit in the works but for now, the Gansevoort South will remain, in name, the Gansevoort South.

Gansevoort South Strikes Back at New Owners and Management

February 5, 2010 at 2:28 PM | by | Comments (4)

Times are hard for the Gansevoort South in Miami Beach. At least behind the scenes. Back in December, it was announced that Gansevoort was having trouble meeting its mortgage payments with the lender Credit Suisse who in turn was going to put the hotel on the auction block on January 28.

But now it looks like Credit Suisse is the new owner of the hotel and they want to remove the Gansevoort management group from the hotel but still keep the name, Gansevoort.

Of course, the Gansevoort Hotel Group isn't going to take this lying down. The group filed a suit today against Column Financial, an affiliate of Credit Suisse, arguing that Column does not have the right to terminate their management contract nor can they hire an inadequate management company to run a hotel using the Gansevoort name.

The Gansevoort Toronto Will Have To Wait

We thought having to wait until 2011 for the Gansevoort Toronto was already too long of a waiting period but thanks to credit woes, it looks like we'll have to keep waiting some more. Maybe forever. Scene Advisor reports that the project has been "halted" before ground was even broken. They also said that construction was to begin in 2010 with an opening date of some time in 2012. But we think you will to wait even longer.

We checked in with the hotel's construction company, TAS DesignBuild, and Steve Fernandez said this about hotel's construction timeline:

Final opening date is not confirmed, as will commence with the start of the selling of the project.

Hmmm....According to a rep for the Gansevoort Hotel Group, the Gansevoort Toronto is still something they are interested in opening once construction plans are more finalized.

In the meantime, we'll focus our energy on Gansevoort Park Ave South and possible locations in London and Istanbul.
