Watch An Extended Commercial For Extended-Stay Hotels By Celebrity Chef G. Garvin

August 31, 2012 at 1:34 PM | by | Comments (0)

Anyone looking to learn a little more about the world of extended-stay hotels ought to take a look at the brief report we posted last week. If, however, you're all too familiar with the notion of week-long or month-long hotel stays, and have been doing them for years, then you're aware that things can get boring. Fast.

Thank goodness, then, that Staybridge Suites has teamed up with TV personality G. Garvin to film a 25-minute video clip that helps travelers deal with the strain of being alone in a hotel room every night with nothing fun to do.

Garvin apparently knows a thing or two about being lonely on the road. That's what leads him to say things like, "I feel your pain," and then launch into a 25-minute discourse on life-saving matters like how women should pack less shoes, and how turkey chili, turkey quesadillas and turkey tacos are actually a really great "quick" meal to whip up in a hotel kitchenette.

Moral of the story: G. Garvin has a real thing for turkey.

A 2,000 lb Submersible, Just Hanging Out In An Embassy Suites Lobby

What goes under water, is piloted by teenagers, and is sitting in our lobby? asks the Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe. And the answer? Why, a 2,000 lb, 14-foot, fully functional submersible, of course.

A photo on the hotel's Facebook page shows the vessel just hanging out in the lobby. But this isn't some misplaced piece of furniture—it's actually on display at the hotel until next month, when it embarks on a series of 60 dives in Lake Tahoe.

Hotel Monaco Philly Won't Open Until November 1st Now [UPDATED]

Site Where: 433 Chestnut Street [map], Philadelphia, PA, United States, 19106
August 6, 2012 at 11:02 AM | by | Comments (0)

UPDATE: We've just heard from the hotel that despite the website's date of November 1st the hotel will open now on October 2nd. Guests looking to stay the night can do so starting October 15th. Reservations for the 15th should open up later today on the hotel's website. Woohoo!

Aside from allowing you to share your current thoughts, stalk old lovers, post party pics, ooo and aww at photos of pets and babies and suffer through random political rantings, Facebook can actually be pretty useful when you're planning your next hotel stay--especially if you're like us and always want to stay in the newest spots.

Just last week we saw that the Hotel Monaco Philadelphia is getting closer to opening after they posted a pic of the front desk and lobby area. But while we thought the posting meant the September opening was still on track, we were a little dismayed when we headed over to the website and found that we are going to have to wait until November 1 now. We guess those pretty rooms need a little longer getting ready.

If You Steal Something, Say Something At the Waldorf-Astoria

People do funny things when they're in love. And hotels do funny things when they want more followers on Twitter.

In an effort to gain more social media buzz, the folks at Waldorf-Astoria in New York have launched a new campaign asking old guests to return anything they've stolen from the hotel. The stolen goods will then get displayed on the hotel's Facebook page—ideally, with a little background story on each item—and then showcased in a special exhibit inside the lobby.

The klepto-guests themselves will remain anonymous. So what's in it for them? The chance to set things right.

The Surfcomber Wants You To Name Its Sheep. Yes, Sheep

____ the Sheep, pulling all the weight at the concierge desk again.

We knew something was in the works with those sheep (the cows, too). Each time we'd been by the The Surfcomber in South Beach, the animal statues were in new positions--around the pool, peeking out from behind a door in the lobby, and hanging out by the concierge desk.

Then the sheep and cows popped up on the hotel's Instagram feed during Winter Music Conference. Now, at last, their role in promoting the newly Kimptonized hotel is becoming apparent--they are but furry pawns in a game to drive traffic to the Surfcomber's Facebook page--and, naturally, to the hotel itself.

They're calling it the "Local Rock Star Needs Name” Facebook contest. You see, one lone black sheep in the flock (four cows and four other sheep) remains nameless. (The others all have names but have yet to be introduced. Stay tuned.)

The Surfcomber is turning to its fans to name the fella--yes, it's a boy sheep--and is providing a little background to help get the creative juices flowing...

Sit And Watch The World Go By Outside Nu Hotel

Like to people watch? Hotels are good for that. And even better than a high-traffic lobby is an outdoor sidewalk cafe, which is exactly what just opened on Smith Street outside of Nu Hotel in Brooklyn yesterday.

The hotel (which isn't so "nu" anymore) boasts on its Facebook page that Brooklyn recently "scored an impressive 97" on its walkability compared to other US cities. And now with summer about to get underway and everyone in the city coming out to play, they've certainly got nothing to lose by plonking down a few tables and chairs and letting guests take front row seats to the daily spectacle that is Downtown Brooklyn.

Though, as the NY Times plainly points out, the hotel happens to be in the unfortunate position of being directly across the street from a newly re-opened city jail. Which, we can all agree, doesn't exactly make for the best people-watching.

Keep The Memory Of Four Seasons Toronto Alive By Signing Their E-Guestbook

March 30, 2012 at 8:59 AM | by | Comments (0)

Don't worry, Four Seasons Toronto isn't being completely obliterated; it's just moving two blocks over to a new 55-story building on Yorkville Ave. The new location is scheduled to open this summer, but in the meantime, Four Seasons is hellbent on capturing a bit of the nostalgia now felt by guests who have stayed at the old property over the years.

In order to do this, the hotel has set up (what else?) an e-guestbook on Facebook. First, users must "like" Four Seasons Toronto's Facebook page, then, they're granted access to the Four Seasons Toronto Memory Book, a compendium of warm, fuzzy memories ranging from engagements to Bar Mitzvahs to the Toronto International Film Festival. Though our favorite had to be the person who fondly recalled "waiting for the elevator."

With A Little Luck, You Could Snag a $47 Room At Cassa Hotel

January 24, 2012 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

2012 is Year of the Dragon, and In case you didn't know, the dragon is a pretty big deal on the Chinese zodiac. So, to match the excitement of the new year, New York's Cassa Hotel & Residences is running a pretty nifty Chinese New Year promotion.

Guests who "like" Cassa on Facebook (and prove it by showing their computer or smartphone to the Front Desk) will be given a fortune cookie. Which at first sounds like not such a great trade-off. But hidden inside one of the fortunes is a voucher that will let you book your next stay for only $47.10/night—roughly 80% off the normal rate. All those limestone tubs and minimalist rooms just by eating opening a cookie? This might be our new favorite holiday.

Brooklyn's Music-Inspired Hotel Will Guarantee A 'Sound' Night's Sleep

We always like it when new hotels start interacting with their guests way before their doors have even opened. And at Brooklyn's music-inspired Hotel BPM, which doesn't open until April, there has been quite a bit of community involvement going on, practically since day one. Like posting shots of the finished bathrooms on Instagram. Or asking Facebook and Twitter fans to give the hotel's 76 custom-made mattresses a snappy name.

Last week, the "What's That Bed Called?" contest yielded a winner: "The Sound Sleeper." Which kind of makes us think there should be some kind of speaker system installed directly into the mattress—wouldn't that be cool! But maybe not so practical...

Bud Light Seeking A Hotel Correspondent, Ugly People Need Not Apply

Go To The Hotel's Web

With the Super Bowl just around the corner, Bud Light is gearing up for their annual hotel takeover. Now in its third year, the four-day-long, beer-fueled fiesta will be taking place at Hampton Inn Indianapolis Downtown Circle Center, and yes, the Playboy Party will still be happening.

Unlike the previous two years, Bud Light wants to hire an official Hotel Correspondent to keep track of social media for this year's event—plus conduct red carpet interviews, star in YouTube videos and liaise between the hotel partiers and those following the debauchery online from other parts of the country.

The perks of this so-called "job" (yes, this is an actual salaried position) include a free hotel stay and as much beer as you can handle. Interested? See below for instructions on how to apply!

Hotel Murano Turns To Facebook To Find A New Tenant For Its Lobby Gift Shop

Dropping off portfolios, sitting down to meetings, providing references—sooo old-fashioned. These days, all it takes to get your foot in the door is quick glance at your prospective employer's Facebook wall.

Yesterday afternoon, the Hotel Murano Tacoma posted that their lobby retail space is currently available for lease, and that interested parties should get in touch with the GM, Stan. Of course, a more traditional interviewing process would likely follow, but we're still fascinated by the way social media has managed to tap into every single aspect of hotel life. And why shouldn't it? If you want a late check-out, check in on Foursquare. If you've accidentally locked yourself in the hotel bathroom, tweet about it.

And if you feel like owning your own hotel gift shop, hie thee to Facebook!
