How Hotels are Celebrating Earth Hour Tomorrow
If the lights go off in your hotel on Saturday, don't be worried. There's no brownout or anything like that. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time Saturday, a number of hotels all over the world will go dark in a sign of eco-solidarity for Earth Hour.
Although the lights will be shut off, the party will keep going. A bunch of hotels will offer special cocktails and activities during Earth Hour. Here's a sampling of those hotel planning in-the-dark fun:
· Starwood
Starwood hotels will reduce outdoor lighting, shut down ice machines, close laundry operations, turn off all office lighting and computers and shut down dishwashers for the hour. If you pledge to participate, the company will reward you with 100 Starwood Preferred Guest points.

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney prepares for a previous Earth Hour celebration.

Apart from the novelty of seeing a big building dim, you could do well out of this display of environmental awareness—plenty of properties are hosting special events to celebrate Earth Hour.
Here are just a few of the hotel chains participating—but feel free to add to our list by sharing details about other hotel Earth Hour events in the comments below.

JW Marriott Starr Pass and Starwood Hotels Join in On Earth Hour
By now, you may have noticed that there are a number of hotels hopping on board with this year's Earth Hour with more and more joining in on the movement as the March 28th great turn-off approaches.
For those still unfamiliar with the Earth Hour initiative: it is, essentially, a worldwide movement that encourages people to shut their lights off for one hour in order to draw attention to the issue of global warming. The founders of Earth Hour have set a goal to get a list of a billion participants to present at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen; they're hoping to be able to send a powerful message about the importance of environmental sustainability.

Party On With the Lights Off for Earth Hour at Langham Hotels
Our minds are sorta blown by this whole Earth Hour thing. Look, we're not just in awe of the global scope and general concept of Earth Hour (the period of time starting at 8:30 on March 28th where people across the world will be shutting off their lights to promote their support of taking action against global warming).
But we're also shocked by the sheer number of pop songs about turning off lights that have popped (heh) into our heads as we've written about the various hotel companies observing Earth Hour this year: "Baby When the Lights Go Out" by 5ive. "Turn Off the Light" by Nelly Furtado. "Turn Your Lights Down Low" by Bob Marley. There are so many jams about turning off lights.
And we'd like to sing one of these songs for Langham Hotels, who will be participating in Earth Hour at select properties across the hotel chain.

Loews Uses Liquor to Get Us Turned On for the Great Turn-Off
As you probably know by now, on March 28 at 8:30pm, people across the world will be shutting off their lights to promote their support of taking action against global warming. Loews Hotels will be participating, and they want you in on the action:
All 17 Loews Hotels properties will power down select lights, equipment and machinery for one hour in honor of "Earth Hour." In celebration, Loews Hotels is inviting guests and locals to the hotels' bars and restaurants to try a Green Gin & Tonic specialty cocktail and a menu of sustainably grown wines. All proceeds from cocktail sales will be donated to Loews Hotels' charity partner, the Modest Needs foundation.
Yes, your eyes went straight to that cocktail, didn't it? Here's what's in it: lime juice, basil leaves, Mighty Green Leaf tea, Botanical Hendrick's Gin and a bit of tonic.
Check out the deets on Earth Hour here.
