As we mentioned last week, finding a cheap and chic place to lay your head during New York Fashion Week is quite the challenge. This is true uptown at The Mark, too, although there you can snag a complimentary blowout and some other goodies to prep for the tents.

The Mark’s Frédéric Fekkai Fashion Week package includes one night's accommodation between February 12–19, a blowout at the hotel’s Frédéric Fekkai Salon, a $200 Carlisle Collection gift certificate, and a bespoke Carlisle Collection Scarf.

London is For Lovers, and Now For Less

January 13, 2010 at 1:34 PM | by MsRebecca | 0 Comments

Paris and Venice may get all the points for romance, but a new deal from Morgans Hotel Group makes foggy London Town a just as seductive option. (And trust us, with our Australian roots, that’s saying something.)

The London Calling promotion offers 25 percent off the best available rates at the Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels between now and March 31st—and yes, there’s availability for Valentine’s Day. (We told you about this sale in our review yesterday of Tablet's Private Sale but there's more to the package.)

Hilton Puts Weekends On Sale But Are They Worth It?

January 6, 2010 at 1:23 PM | by MsRebecca | 0 Comments

Ooh, January sales! We love us a good shoe bargain but we love a deal on our next vacation even more. One of the first hotel chain deals of the new year comes from Hilton, although our initial excitement turned to the kind of disappointment you get when you find just one lone shoe on the sale rack with no partner.

The deal sounds good—Hilton are offering up to 50% off weekend stays at participating hotels worldwide. But the savings are more like 20% or 33% off at some properties, and try as we might, we struggled to find any properties in Europe offering the discount, and we plugged in a variety of cities and dates.

The good part is the deal is for any trip during 2010—as long as you book before January 31. And kudos to Hilton for giving us discounts on weekends—usually you have to travel mid-week to save on rates.

Yes, these people will happily pocket your cash

Are you part of the mega-rich? Do you lie awake at night, worrying about what to do with all those $100 bills which are currently acting as stuffing for your mattress? Yes? Then fret no more, because we have found the package for you.

The understated-but-seriously-swish 51 Buckingham Gate, neighbour to the queen, Taj property and purveyor of pawsh BBQs, has teamed up with Harrods for their imaginatively named Harrods at 51 package.

As you might surmise, it’s pretty bling. The package consists of three nights B&B accommodation, a chauffeured Jaguar to Harrods, £100 gift card, 10% off stuff from the Food Hall, membership to the “Harrods Rewards” loyalty program and an invite to their personal shopping service. Oh, and they’ll throw in a cocktail-n-canapés reception in the evening for when you come back exhausted from flexing your little manicured fingers all day long.

Best Western's European Deal is Good But Not Great

November 16, 2009 at 10:25 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Winter citybreaks in Europe are our absolute favourite type of shopping-and-culture trips. Hotels are cheap, flights are half empty, the monuments are queue-free and the shops are full of Christmas cheer. Plus, eating loads is obligatory to stave off the demon cold.

So Best Western’s Two Day Promotion really tickled our fancy. The deal is this: 400 BW hotels in Europe and Egypt are offering rates starting at a peasly (for Europe) €49 (£43/$72) up to €79 (£70/$118) over December, January and February (most have backout days around Christmas and New Year, but other than that you have pretty much a free run at it – check the website for individual hotel details). To secure the rates, you need to book on 20 or 21 November on this link.

But then we checked out just how good a deal it was by scoping out the cost of a few days in Rome this December. And we were sorely disappointed.

Here's Your Chance to Stay at the Ritz Paris For Slightly Less Than Normal

It used to be something of a tradition for Londoners to hop on the Eurostar for a quicky weekend in Paris – especially when it came to winter romance. But it obviously isn’t going so well at the moment, thanks to the insanely strong euro: Eurostar is currently bombarding London with ads, and Parisian hotels seeing to be flinging out special offers by the day.

Anyway, if you can bear the dreadful exchange rate, there are deals to be had. This week the Leading Hotels of the World group have jumped on the bandwagon, offering up to 30% off – which, when you’re talking hotels like the Ritz or the Crillon, is a pretty big deal.

With the Leading in Paris offer, starting rates are down to €590 at the Hotel Le Bristol, €550 at the Ritz, €530 at the Hotel de Crillon and €589 at the Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière. Slightly cheaper are the Hotel Lancaster from €370, or the Hotel Raphael from €365 (the Raphael will also chuck in breakfast and a special “welcome gift).

How Special is the Special Winter Offer From Concorde Hotels?

Well, hello Paris. And Berlin. And Prague. And even Marbella. Christmas shopping on the Continent is looking pretty promising this year. The latest lot to offer special winter deals are the folk at Concorde Hotels. But is it worth it?

The Winter Offer which starts 1 November and ends March 31 promises bed, breakfast and a “surprise gift” if you stay two nights or more. And the rates sound pretty good – Prague from €80 ($118/£72), Berlin from €136 and Paris from €148.

Except we just looked up rezzie rates for a couple of properties, and looks like you can do better by simply paying up front, if all you want is a room with no added extras.

The Mandarin Oriental's 'Festive Breaks' May Not Be So Festive After All

October 29, 2009 at 9:27 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

When planning our next hotel stay, a night at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel is never even within our realm of possibilities as the luxury hotels are usually far out of our price range. But if we suddenly manage to receive a Christmas gift of cash in the next month or so, we could consider a night at MO, thanks to their new Festive Breaks offer.

From November 12 to December 30 guests who book two nights in a Mandarin Oriental will get a hotel credit of up to $100 per stay ($200 if you book a suite.) The credits cannot be used towards the room but you can use them at the spa or the hotel restaurants.

This sounds generous of Mandarin Oriental but it's actually quite frustrating.

'Explorer Passes' Aren't Worth It at The Marriott New York Brooklyn Bridge

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 333 Adams Street [map], New YOrk, ny, United States, 11201
October 27, 2009 at 5:19 PM | by Omri | 1 Comment

Marriot Hotels have been very good lately about alerting us hotel guests to their newest hotel deals and packages via Facebook, Twitter and even the individual Marriott hotels' websites. However, just because Marriott advertises it as a deal doesn't necessarily mean it's a good one. The other week we expressed some disappointment with a New Orleans package which, based on its marketing and pricing, made less than zero sense.

Now it's the Explore Your New York package deal from the New York Marriott At The Brooklyn Bridge. Room rates range from $274-$524 per room, per night, plus tax. The ostensible bonus is that rooms come bundled with two Explorer Passes that have three discount coupons for 40 different shops, tours, or attractions. Breakfast for two is also thrown in.

We'll get into the mechanics of this non-deal after the jump, but before we highlight the specifics: there's no way this is ever going to be a deal. The rules never change. Deeply discounted resorts and cruises are sometimes bargains because you're purchasing a unique experience. Not so much hotels in major cities, which are functionally interchangeable. Tourist coupon books are worse than useless, locking you into events for which you'd be better off picking and choosing deals.

You Won't Necessarily Score Bargains During San Diego Hotel Week

October 23, 2009 at 8:39 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

We got worried when the first San Diego Hotel Week only had one lonely hotel on board back in July. But as Hotel Week—set for November 13 to 26—approaches, more than 40 are on the roster. Thing is, we found that you're not necessarily getting a deal if you book a room through the Hotel Week website.

Don't get us wrong, you can score some price cuts. The Estancia La Jolla is giving out rooms for 50 percent off. A room that usually costs $275 is $137.50 exclusively through Hotel Week's website. You can also snag a guestroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront for $99. The regular price is $109.

A Not So Jazzy Deal: Marriott and Harrah's New Orleans Casino Getaway

October 14, 2009 at 4:43 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

The Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans is offering what their breathless press release describes as "the ultimate casino getaway." Using a promotional booking code available on the Marriott site, you can book a room Thursdays through Sundays from now until August 21, 2010.

The deal, such as it is, includes a $10 Harrah's Casino voucher (two whole antes!), $15 a night parking (discounted!), and "rates from $89-$339 per room, per night." We think you can tell from our tone that this isn't going to go well.
