We’re slowly starting to see a tiny bit of what new hotel group Glh. will be up to over the next few years, specifically with its luxury brand Clermont Hotels in London and Singapore. The changes Glh. is introducing from its Guoman days don’t end there though, with a second new brand of “contemporary 4-star” hotels called Amba making its entry into the hotel world as well.
Aiming to have nearly 2100 rooms in Europe by 2015 and 30 cities within the UK alone to target, as well as international expansion in China and the US, Amba Hotels has big plans. They start with four London hotels: Marble Arch (previously a Thistle Hotel), Tower Bridge (previously Guoman - above), Charing Cross (previously Guoman) and Buckingham Palace Road (previously the Grosvenor Hotel). The four hotels have another £70 ($120) million in investment coming their way, with Amba Charing Cross (attached to the train station of the same name) opening first under the Amba flag in October.
Remember when we talked about a new hotel group called Glh. (the rebirth of Guoman Hotels) and the launch of their luxury brand Clermont Hotels last October? Meant to change the face of the luxury market, the goal is to open 30 hotels in the next decade, starting with the Royal Horseguards in London.
It’s been fairly quiet since then, and we haven’t seen any more on what the new Clermont London will look like or when in 2014 it will reopen. We did spy a little more activity at the first brand new Clermont, which should open in 2016 in Singapore as part of the mega-project Tanjong Pagar Centre, built on top of the MRT (metro) station of the same name and set to be the highest building in the city. After the jump what it will look like when complete.

London has had a few big years in hotels, including our best opening for 2013, but the next twelve months should give us plenty to pore over too. Just like the five worldwide openings we lifted out of our Master List of Worldwide Hotel Openings, here are 6 London hotels you should keep an eye out for this year.
Firmdale's Ham Yard Hotel : we’ve been taking pictures for a long time of the construction site, but this year should really be the year when Firmdale adds a new flagship to its quirky collection of individually Kit Kemp-styled hotels. Located just off of Piccadilly Circus with 90 rooms and suites and a whole range of amenities (bowling alley anyone?), the hotel will complete a piece of the puzzle in this revamped area between Regent Street and Soho. Recruitment has started, and based on the website, we think it will actually be called the Ham Yard Hotel when it opens in May.
