A Fully Dressed Tree, Roaring Fire and a Christmas Discount at the Royal Horseguards
Last time we heard about the Royal Horseguards in London, it was doing its bit for charity. Now we’re delighted to report it’s doing its bit for us as well, by knocking 30 percent off its rates over the Christmas season.
Stay between December 18 – January 17 and you can get 30 percent off the best available winter room rate. Not only that, but the hotel promises to be “lavishly decorated” over the hols, with a “roaring coal fire” and a “fully trimmed Christmas tree”. Fully trimmed? We thought that was for the turkey only.
The hotel’s bang on the Thames, so you should get an eyeful of the South Bank, which is always dressed up pretty for Christmas. And of course, there’s always the chance of a festive Secret Service ghost if you like that sort of thing.
To book, use code NNN27, and be warned - you'll need to pay up front and the rooms are non-refundable.

Five Hotels for The Holidays That Go Beyond Dinner and a Room

Scotland's Balmoral Hotel
Hotels getting gussied up for holiday time is hardly something new, nor is the deluge of "Super-Amazing-Can't-Miss-It" packages that accompany tinsel being hung. Trust us; we'll be hearing (and writing) about them ad infinitum.
Finding metallic ornaments and maybe even a Christmas goose dinner is easy enough at any number of establishments, so today we're highlighting five that go beyond dinner and a room. There's something special shaking at this quintet of hotels, and it's up to you to experience the good tidings in person.
The Balmoral Hotel
At this high-end hotel in Edinburgh, guests get a "home away from home" vibe with a complimentary in-room Christmas tree for decorating. Also comped by the Balmoral are breakfast, use of the Balmoral Health Club, and an adjoining room for children for much-needed adult privacy.

Hotel Du Louvre Serves Up Traditional French Holiday Fare
Paris is blessed with many things to make the holiday season truly unforgettable: architecture that looks even better under a few inches of snow, amazing seasonal food, sales at some of the best stores in the world, and enough cultural distractions to break up any family time. Combining all of these benefits because of its bulls-eye location is the Hotel du Louvre. Sitting dead next to the Louvre, down the street from the Galeries Lafayette and the boutiques of the Rue St Honoré, and only a short taxi away from the Champs-Élysées, the hotel will serve as a nexus for tourists during the holiday season.

A Boxing Day Vow: Next Christmas, A Luxury Hotel in Bruges

Guess what Monica Guy was doing yesterday on Boxing Day? Yup. Fantasizing about hotels....
It's Boxing Day and you're wishing you'd gone away for Christmas. The turkey-smeared plates are piled up in the sink and you are feeling the after-effects of Aunty Jean's home-made concrete mince pies and knock-out Christmas pud. (Or is it just the English who inflict these Christmas "treats" upon each other?)
Either way, you've vowed you won't be messing around with Christmas at home again - you're on the internet checking out Christmas hotels for next year.
Bruges, Belgium is possibly the sweetest Christmas city in Europe. Okay, so it's cold...but you might get snow and at least it's small and cosy enough to stroll around. The Christmas market in the main square is a mulled wine and roasted chestnuts extravaganza. Perfect.
If you can spell the name, stay in the 4-star Hotel Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce.
It's not the most well-known hotel in Bruges or even the most classic - for that you'll want the equally bizarrely-spelt Hotel Tuilerieen. But that's about to change - the RBC's got a starring role in the forthcoming black comedy In Bruges featuring Ralph Fiennes and Colin Farrell. After March 2008, you'll be able to say, "Well, I was there before it was famous..."

Santa Claus Has His Own Hotel in Finland

When you're choosing a hotel for a Christmas vacation, you can't get a much more appropriate choice than the Clarion Hotel Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland. The Santa Claus Hotel is just a few miles away from the official home of the real Santa on the Arctic Circle and is a popular choice for Christmas visitors to Finland.
Like many Lapland hotels, the functionality wins over from looks when you see the Santa Claus Hotel from the outside--but if you're visiting at Christmas time, the daylight only lasts a couple of hours so you'll probably never get a good look at the architecture anyway.
The character of a Christmas in Rovaniemi comes more from the activities you undertake and the excitement of the season than a hotel full of character, and so the Hotel Santa Claus provides everything else that you need: neat clean rooms, a decent breakfast, friendly staff and a central location in Rovaniemi, and within walking distance of the train station.
Having said that, the Clarion Hotel Santa Claus has recently opened some new rooms that include their own saunas. There is also the option of booking the Santa Claus Suite which comes with a sauna and jacuzzi, but sadly without Santa.

Art Imitates Life At Le Meridien Tahiti

Le Méridien Tahiti is expanding the respite it offers art-conscious travelers. Last year, the hotel opened L'Atelier, an onsite gallery and workshop center featuring the teachings and creations of South Pacific artists.
Taking it one step further, guests no longer have to leave their rooms to unleash their inner Bob Ross. With the Tahitian sunset through the window, visitors can use the included easel, canvas, and pastels that come, just as reliably as the mini bar, with every room to try and recreate the island's beauty.
Winter rates at the hotel start at $152 per person per night in a lagoon room which includes breakfast. The three-hour art workshops start at $120. And if you plan on staying over Christmas morning, the resort is hosting a first-ever Artistic Holiday Scavenger Hunt with the chance to win a free art lesson from L’Atelier. Good luck.

A Winter Wonderland Hotel: The Bristol in Frankfurt

The Christmas market is as much a part of the holiday season in Europe as the two-tiered shopping mall in America. From Nov. 30 to Dec. 23, Frankfurt hosts one of Germany's oldest and largest Christmas markets. Coinciding with the Winter Wonderland, Cities Direct has three-night packages starting at £149 per person that includes return flight from London Stansted, and a three-night stay at participating hotels like Bristol Hotel Frankfurt.
Though the rooms are small, guests comment that the proximity to downtown activities like the market ensures you'll be spending little time indoors. The hotel has that urban, modern feel the Germans love, with clean lines and basic taupe/black colors. Plus, there's cow-patterned chairs in the lobby. Surely all this will be a respite for your eyes from the bright reds and greens and the clutter-filled shop counters that characterize the season.
