They're On a Roll! China's 35th Shangri-La Goes To Yangzhou
It seems like we talk about one Shangri-La hotel opening a week. It's like the brand is giving birth to a brood of properties and we can't keep them straight. We may even have to change our motto--"Hotel Chatters All About Shangri-La" at this rate.
Yep, they've now cut the ribbon on their 35th property in mainland China, the Shangri-La Yangzhou. This one nestled in the heart of the medium-sized city and the luxury hotel marks the first international hotel chain to open in "The City of Poets, Merchants and Explorers".
Featuring its own Asian-style garden, the new hotel peers over neighboring Mingyue Lake offering guests staying in any of the 369 rooms tranquil views of koi ponds and pagodas. Yangzhou is known for its beauty, history and culture and this property is sure to complement the 2,500 year old city.

Which Beijing Hotel Offers This Killer View?

It’s not a view of Tiananmen Square or a section of the Great Wall outside Beijing, but the window of this Superior Club room at the Kerry Hotel Beijing perfectly frames Rem Koolhaas’s now-iconic shard-like CCTV building.

Glam Alert: Shangri-La Haikou Opens On China's Hainan Island
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, on whom we have a big ol’ crush, and who seem to roll out a new hotel almost every month, announced that their next hotel in China has officially opened on the shores of ‘China’s Hawaii’.
We fully expect that the 337-room Shangri-La Haikou has everything this luxe hotel brand has become known for: big rooms, free WiFi, great restaurants and bars, awe-inspiring service and a deluxe spa to massage away your cares, but the Shangri-La Haikou will also have in-suite balconies, an indoor and outdoor pool, a tennis court and natural hot spring pools.

Four Seasons Hotel Opens In Beijing, More To Come
Just about a month after the reveal of its new flagship in hometown Toronto, Four Seasons added yet another new destination to its roster yesterday with the opening of Four Seasons Beijing. This marks a total of five hotels in China, complementing Shanghai, Shanghai (Pudong), Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Hong Kong.
A total of 313 rooms and 66 suites can be found in this mixed-use complex that also combines two private apartment towers. Restaurant Cai Yi Xuan serves regional Chinese cuisine, with Mio being the Italian option that seems a near-staple for Four Seasons Hotels these days. Opus lounge & bar offers all-day dining and drinks, including daily afternoon tea.

Shangri-La Changzhou Opens, Making Glam Affordable
Here we go again, China gets a flash hotel and this time it’s in the form of a Shangri-La. The new hotel fun isn’t limited to the big cities this time with the latest property in the business hub of Changzhou , about an hour train-ride west of Shanghai and 45 minutes east of Nanjin.
The giant complex of a hotel is on the south bank of the Yangtze River delta and will primarily cater to business people doing their thing in the neighboring commercial center. Don’t let that fact mark this property off your list of leisure destinations though, because the city has plenty to offer for tourists and with 350 rooms, there is a good chance you won’t see anyone in a suit.
Each of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and unobstructed views of Xihu Lake or the city, along with the traditional luxuries we continually rave about in all Shangri-La hotels. If you do happen to get this hotel on an expense report, the complimentary WiFi and spacious office areas will make work a lot more pleasurable. There’s even an IT butler in case you have a computer glitch.

Swissôtel On A Roll With Sixth Hotel In Changsha, China
We’ve previously looked at what Swissôtel will be up to in Turkey (including its new extended-stay concept) and Dubai over the next years, after being impressed with their latest property in Dresden (and their serious approach to sleep). Looks like two resorts in Bodrum and one in Dubai isn’t enough action, with Swissôtel Changsha just added to the list for openings in 2014.
Where is Changsha and why there you ask? The capital of the Hunan province, Changsha is about 680 miles southwest of Shanghai, and a major transportation hub in the area. By the time the hotel opens, there will be a metro station connecting the east and west of the city next to the hotel, and Changsha will be a stop on a high-speed railway connecting Shanghai to Kunming (near the southwestern border with Myanmar (Burma), Laos, and Vietnam).

Say Hi to Shanghai's Twelve at Hengshan
Chalk up yet another new hotel for China, this time in Shanghai. The former French Concession gets to cut the ribbon on Twelve at Hengshan in November. The über-swanky brand, Luxury Collection from Starwood Hotels is bringing fierce design while honoring local character to the city's most historic section.
The new building, right along tree-lined Hengshan Road, will blend in to the neighborhood with thousands of terracotta tiles adorning the outside. But it's the modern take on traditional Chinese design that provides the wow factor. Garden motifs, hand-painted Oriental screens, handmade Chinese and modern furniture will give an 'East meets West, Past meets Present' vibe.
Though there are 171 rooms, know the most luxury is oozing from the suites. All 28 of them are decked out with Bose sound systems, Hermes toiletries, and many even overlook a secret garden. Plus each will have private terraces--oh, and a butler. But, if the suites are out of your price range, the regular rooms come with deluxe bathrooms, entertainment systems, Nespresso machines and free WiFi. Not too shabby, eh?

Banyan Tree Heads to The Bund

Bund Retreat
If it seems like China is getting all of the newest and flashiest hotels, it's because, well, they are getting all the newest and flashiest hotels. The country is certainly a hotbed for hoteliers to pull out all the stops and wow their guests. Banyan Tree Hotels are no different with their newest addition to Shanghai, and this one's a gem.
Banyan has build a brand new urban resort on the banks of the Huangpu River in the most happening area of town called The Bund. The area is a definite contrast of new and old with turn of the century banks and hotels juxtaposed across the river with the big lights and big city of the financial district, Pudong, this modern building houses great service and modern luxuries.
Each of the 130 rooms and suites will offer modern Asian decor with a focus on wood and natural fabrics all arranged around a textile wall behind the beds. All rooms are fully equipped with high-tech devises like LCD flat screen TVs up to 52 inches, Nespresso coffee makers and complementary WiFi. While these are nice features, we wouldn't be able to tear our eyes away from the passing boats and cruises of the river views that the suites boast. The top-of-the-line 'Banyan Suite' offers a Shanghai exclusive: the en-suite swimming pool. It can be said that this is a first for the city; other than in Macau, we can't imagine it's common place in many other hotels.

The Royal Begonia Opens With Rooms For $169 a Night

The newest member to Starwood's Luxury Collection has been unveiled, this time on the island of Hainan in southern China. Granted, it's probably being overshadowed by the new Sheraton Macao, Starwood's largest property to date, but still. For something a little more personal and upscale, the Royal Begonia is a pretty safe bet.
The 142-room property is built on a stunning quarter-mile stretch of beach on Haitang Bay, located on the southeastern tip of the island.
Guest rooms offer custom-designed furniture, there's an art gallery showcasing traditional and modern Chinese art, a cigar lounge, a Spanish wine and cocktail bar, and the hotel will even arrange special outings to local destinations in the surrounding bay, like the "floating restaurant" on nearby Coconut Island, which specializes in traditional Hainanese seafood dishes.
