It may look like more of a parlor or library or the setting of a real-life game of "Clue" but the suite can also be booked as a guest suite or as a parlor addition to a series of guest rooms. But you may be wondering, who is Stanford White. Allow us to give you a little history lesson.

Chatwal's Classic Rooms Now $445 a Night on Booking.com

We've been keeping a keep close watch on room rates at the just-opened Chatwal New York, praying that the hotel rates would come down to something more affordable for us and we think we may have found it on Booking.com.

In searching for a room for next Friday night, we found a classic room type available for about $445 a night before taxes. Looking on the hotel's own website for that same night we found a classic room for $586 a night but that includes breakfast. Of course, we thought we'd peek in at Leading Hotels of the World while we're at it and they are showing rates of $556 a night without breakfast. Still, all of those beat the $695 rack rate the hotel came out with.

The Chatwal New York's New Website Is Now Live

The Facebook page teased that it was on its way, and for once The Chatwal New York didn't leave us hanging like a desperate lover who really should just get over it. The hotel's new-look website is now live!

This is very exciting because the move usually means that an opening date is going to stick. You've got real photos of the rooms to show off, and a reservation system up and running--it's full steam ahead!

As you can see, The Chatwal's Art Deco fetish is in full effect here. They tell us so in the first sentence on the site, but they also show us through the use of vintage black and white photos like this one...

The Chatwal Creeps Back Up to $500 a Night

After a small false alarm where we thought we had we heard rooms at the upcoming Chatwal New York had dropped to $299 a night (long story!), we did some investigating on the Leading Hotels of the World website and found that the hotel will now take reservations from August 8 for $500 a night. Previously, we could nab a room for $474 on the LHW site.

Meanwhile, online reservations are still not happening over at TheChatwalNY.com but the hotel's Facebook page is still promising a new website to be unveiled "soon." (Update: the hotel now says Monday.) If you're as excited as we are to get into The Chatwal and have the cash to stay there, you can make your reservations now by calling 1.888.5.Chatwal or emailing reservations@thechatwalny.com. (Tip: last time we checked with the rezzie line, we still found slightly cheaper rooms at LHW.com)

Room Rates at The Chatwal Are Still Aiming High

Earlier this year, The Chatwal New York announced that room rates would start at $695 a night. $695! For a hotel in Times Square!

As we get closer and closer to the opening on August 1, we're going to be keeping a close eye on these room rates. Will they go up? Will they go down? Either way, we don't want you to overpay. Here are our latest findings in the Chatwal Room Rate Dance....

Last week, we learned that we could get a classic room for $474 a night, with breakfast included, via the Leading Hotels of The World website. And while rooms are expected to open on August 1, we were not able to book until August 8.
