We'll Always Have The Memories But For Now, Hotel Missonis Are No More

February 21, 2014 at 7:55 PM | by | Comments (0)

Wow. What a sad way to end a good week--Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, on the heels of making announcements about their two new brands--have suddenly put the brakes on the Hotel Missoni brand. Here's the official statement:

The Rezidor Hotel Group and the Italian fashion house Missoni have mutually agreed to terminate the worldwide Master Licence Agreement for the development and operation of the brand Hotel Missoni, effective 31st December 2013. The existing properties Hotel Missoni Edinburgh and Hotel Missoni Kuwait will cease to operate under the marks of Hotel Missoni latest by 30th June 2014.

Well, guess we can scratch Missoni off the list of fashion-branded hotels that might open in Macau. Carlson Rezidor CEO Wolfgang M. Neumann said the decision was due to their new focus on the Radisson Blu and Park Inn brands and probably, their new brand for millennials, Radisson Red, and their new collection of hotels, The Quorvus Collection, aimed at parents of millennials.

Meanwhile Missoni CEO Alberto Piantoni said that the fashion house has "new strategic visions in the field of interior design and hospitality." So does this mean that Hotel Missoni might be resurrected somewhere else, possibly in an actual fashion capital like Milan, Paris or New York? We will keep our fingers crossed.

Until then, we'll always have this glorious review and photo gallery from HotelChatter contributor and Jaunted editor JetSetCd. It's so haaaarrddd to say goodbyeeyeyeyeye to Missonniiiiiii.

Now You Can Pay for Your Stay with Google Wallet at Carlson Rezidor Hotels

December 26, 2013 at 11:11 AM | by | Comments (0)

Just the other week, we told you about Omni Hotels getting hip to Google Wallet. Now, another hotel group has joined the virtual billfold.

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, whose brands include Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, and Country Inns & Suites, is also allowing guests to store their Club Carlson loyalty program info in Google Wallet as well as letting guests pay for their stay using Google Wallet. Pretty cool and crazy convenient.

Apparently, Carlson has been testing this service since December 18th but they just went live with it on Monday. The Club Carlson loyalty program is not yet on Google Wallet (that will happen in early 2014) but it will allow guests to access their account information, receive notifications and messages based on geo targeting and earn and redeem Club Carlson Gold Points. Currently, Google Wallet is only available to U.S. residents but Google Wallet holders can use the service to book a hotel stay globally.

A Modernist Mecca: Radisson Blu Royal Copenhagen Hotel

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: Hammerichsgade 1, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1611

Jacobsen's Room 606

Few can deny that Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, creator of the Egg, the Swan and the Series 7 chairs, was one of the most iconic architects and designers of the modernist era. Could the Radisson Blu Royal Copenhagen be his finest achievement? We went on an exploratory mission to check out what was said to be the “landmark of the jet age.”

The hotel opened in 1960 and was originally built by SAS to accommodate both its first airport terminal and its passengers who needed to stay overnight to catch a flight out of Copenhagen. After a night at the hotel, passengers would check in for their flight in the terminal building attached, and wait for the airline's shuttle bus to take them to the airport.

Today, the hotel still has the same clean lines and simple detail that it had back then. The famous Jacobsen Egg and Swan chairs, originally designed for the hotel, are still found throughout the very large black-and-white-marbled lobby and in the rooms. The elegantly curved white lobby staircase pushed the limits of technology in the late 50s and looks like it could be found in a loft from 2013. Other original details include the dark wenge wood found on the main floor of the hotel. Jacobsen designed everything from the cutlery and plates, bathroom fittings and door handles to the chairs and lighting fixtures.

(There are plenty of pics for you to see in the photo gallery!)

Country Inns Joins With Genevieve Gorder For Fresh-Forward Design

April 11, 2013 at 3:44 PM | by | Comments (0)

Carlson's Country Inns & Suites have never been on our Top 10 hotel list when it comes to inspirational design, but even we were impressed to find out that the brand has just partnered with HGTV (and TLC's "Trading Spaces" alumni) celebrity interior decorator Genevieve Gorder to work on a new look for a new generation of traveler.

The updated hotel architecture and interiors, designed by London-based architectural design firms Imagination and Virgile and Stone, will make their debut in late 2013. They will trade in Country Inn's 1987 beginnings for a clean, contemporary look. Still, the design is intended to make loyal guests feel comfy, but appeal to the technology-focused business traveler.

Club Carlson Pumps Up Points On Stays

January 17, 2013 at 12:07 PM | by | Comments (0)

One thing we’re doing in 2013 is paying serious attention to the hotel loyalty programs we’ve signed up for over the years. It seems like we’re a member of damn near everything, given how easy it has been to register for most loyalty programs. Hey, if it means free minibar items (hey, Kimpton’s InTouch!) or WiFi (hola, Fairmont President’s Club?),then we’re ‘bout it.

However, there comes a time when we have to look at all our membership cards spilling out our travel wallet and ask the all-too-important question: What have you done for me, lately?

We just happened to be looking at our Club Carlson card, thinking we weren’t getting much out of our relationship, when we got news that Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, the company behind Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, and Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, was launching the Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion. Members of the hotel’s rewards program would earn triple Gold Point for eligible nights through March 15, 2013.

We put the scissors down.

What Is Radisson's Business Class? (Hint: It Involves Coffee)

September 14, 2010 at 10:34 AM | by | Comments (0)

UPDATE: In our caffeinated excitement, we missed some of the finer points about those in-room coffee-makers. The Nespresso machines are only in Radisson hotels in Europe, The Middle East and Africa. But coffee makers are standard in Radissons in North America.

Are you a member of Radisson's goldpoints plus loyalty program? Well, good for you--but now there's something even better. It's called Business Class, and it gives guests access to specialized amenities and services that promise to make the life of a road warrior much less cranky-making. Yup, it's pretty much a rip-off of the business class you find on airplanes.

According to the marketing babble, the new program--which was introduced on September 1--was developed around the concept of “travel empathy.” In other words, Radisson feels your pain and wants to give you extra stuff to win you over. Since one of those things is an in-room Nespresso machine, it sounds like they really have listened to their guests. (We think individual coffee-makers should be standard.)

Earn Major Bonus Gold Points All Summer at Carlson Hotels

May 26, 2009 at 2:48 PM | by | Comments (0)

Yes, yes, we know: here comes another loyalty program bonus offer that promises to lure you out of the safe confines of your apartment or house and into a hotel bed. Well, many hotel beds — for multiple nights, all summer long — yada yada.

Here's another: members of Carlson Hotels' goldpoints plus (and yes, it is with great hesitance that we comply with the non-capitalization thing here) loyalty program to earn bonus points by staying at any of Carlson's hotel brands — that's Regent, Radisson, Park Plaza, Country Inn and Park Inn — for three or more nights between June 1 and August 31. And no, the nights don't have to be consecutive.

Loyalty Program News :: Carlson 'Does the Math' for Us

June 2, 2008 at 10:04 AM | by | Comments (0)

For a while now, we've been keeping tabs on Carlson Hotels, the rapidly-growing parent company of Regent, Radisson, Park Plaza, Country Inn and Park Inn. They've been hard at work revamping and expanding goldpoints plus, their guest loyalty program, so we checked in with them this morning to see what's new.

On top of the eco-conscious recently-launched program allowing goldpoints plus members to donate their points to CarbonNeutral, your goldpoints can also score you dinners at TGI Fridays, subscriptions to The Economist and, if straight up cash-money is your thing, prepaid Visa or Mastercards to support your shoe shopping habits.

Oh, right--you can earn free nights and frequent flier miles, too.

Stayin' Green :: Get Points Back By Going Carbon Neutral For Carlson Hotels

April 23, 2008 at 4:12 PM | by | Comments (0)

April 22nd is Earth Day so all this week we will be bringing you the latest news on Green Hotels. Got some eco-friendly news you wanna share? Let us know.

If you're a regular at Carlson Hotels which has the Regent Hotels, Radissons, Park Plazas, Park Inn and Country Inn and Suites under its name, then you might want to consider going Carbon Neutral on your next trip.

The hotel chain just announced that it will match the contribution of every goldpoints plus member (that's their loyalty program) donating points to Carbon Neutral, starting April 30th.

Carbon Neutral is a UK-based carbon offsetting company that aims to offset CO2 emissions associated with travel. Last year, Carlson revamped its frequent guest program to include, on a global basis for the first time, the opportunity for its members to donate points to community-based carbon reduction projects that neutralize the CO2 pollution that results from global travel.

Members can redeem points starting at 2,000 points by logging on goldpointsplus.com or by contacting the member service centers which vary depending on your location. More information on the promotion can be found here.

HotelChatter's Guide to Loyalty Programs:: Radisson Goldpoints Plus

October 11, 2007 at 3:22 PM | by | Comments (0)

Until recently we thought hotel loyalty programs were for Account Executives rolling their business travel points into a family vacation at a bland resort every year or two. However, funny thing happened when we started investigating these programs -- we found some of them are downright useful if you know how to cut through the red tape. This series is meant as a jumping off point to full fledged discussions on each loyalty program we feature. So comment, contribute, question, and cajole here.

Radisson Hotels is in the midst of completely overhauling their rewards program but the good news is that the new Goldpoints Plus will debut on October 28th so if you aren't a member yet, it won't be long to join the new program.

Some of the "enhancements" include earning more points and faster and redeeming more points at more properties and use your points at frequent flyer program.
