What is The Lending Locker and Can More Hotels Have This?
Last week as we strolled through the InterContinental Hotel Group's Annual Investors and Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, we saw tons of hotel vendors hawking their wares from electronics to furniture, lighting fixtures, bed linens and even fugly carpeting. But what caught our eye was this--The Lending Locker.
The locker, or loan closet, stocks items that you may have forgotten during your stay or couldn't bring with you in the first place. The way it works is fairly simple. If you see something in the locker that you want to use, you fill out a slip at the front desk stating what you are borrowing and your room number. And voila, you can now have a George Forman grill simmering away in your hotel room.
Speaking of grills, given that there are some pretty big items inside the locker like appliances and coolers, the locker works better in extended-stay hotels where guests are staying in large suites with kitchens. Indeed, IHG's Candlewood Suites brand is testing out the Lending Locker in some of their hotels.

And This is Why We Hate Hotel Delays
Some hotel folks say we are too hard on them about their hotel delays but there's a good reason for it---guests who make reservations, heck, center their whole travel plans around staying at a hotel, often get left stranded when a hotel decides not to open on time.
Now with the higher end properties, like Gansevoort South, guests with reservations are often made full aware of the delay and the hotel will also have them set up at a sister property.
But at budget properties like Candlewood Suites, it seems the reservation just gets completely forgotten about. Consumerist.com reports:

Candlewood Suites To Get a New Look
Candlewood Suites, the extended-stay brand from IHG Hotels, has announced a new suite protoype for its hotels. The first major design change to the hotel chain in 12 years can now be experienced at the Candlewood Suites Sheridan in Sheridan, Wyo.
Each of the hotel's 75 guest suites feature the brand's new Comforts of HomeTM Bedding Collection with upgraded mattresses and box spring sets, mattress topper, fluffy duvet inserts and poly-cotton covers matching the hotel's color scheme, 250-thread count micro-check sateen sheets in "Candlelight", triple sheeting, contemporary cotton estate blankets, choice of three upgraded pillow types in firm, medium and feather and a decorative "Consider Us Home" pillow.
Aside from comfy sleep, Candlewood is also providing eco-friendly amenities like low-flow shower heads and toilets and Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs).
