Luxury Hotels Now Want to Pamper Your Heinie With High-Tech Toilets

Well, it's official. The must-have amenity for luxury hotels is clearly the The TOTO Neorest Washlet. Yup, we're talking about a toilet.
We spied this high-tech potty in the new rooms at the Hotel Bel-Air as well as in the specialty suites of the Peninsula Beverly Hills.
But it's also the crowning glory of the Ebony Suite at The May Fair Hotel in London.
We've already dished on the Ebony Suite's lit-up bathtub which was also designed by TOTO but now the May Fair has issued a press release describing the mechanics of their technologically advanced loo:
Worth approximately £10,000, the TOTO Neorest Washlet is the most advanced lavatory around. Its futuristic design features a heated seat, integrated bidet with directional warm jets of water, temperature and water massage function, dryer and automatic deodorizer – all operated via a wall-mounted remote control panel.

Ever Stumbled Upon A Walk-In Closet In Your Bathroom?

No? Well, that's because you've never spent a night at Ritz-Carlton's over the top opulent Reserve Phulay Bay in Krabi, Thailand. Comprised of 54 villas set along the Andaman Sea, every inch of the resort is pure luxury—from the feng shui-inspired welcome pavilion to the cathedral-like bathrooms.
The above shot shows a bathroom entrance in one of the Ocean Pavilion villas (these bad boys go for around $550/night during the summer season). The painted double doors alone are pretty impressive, and peeking inside, we love how the scalloped porcelain sinks are set in the middle of the room like a shrine. But the fancy faucets are only the beginning of what Phulay Bay's bathrooms have to offer...

How Would You Like A Little Aromatherapy On Your Next Stay At JW Marriott?

That's totally doable now, as the brand has just decided to introduce toiletries by Aromatherapy Associates in all bathrooms. Back when we checked in on them in 2008, JW Marriott was using Nervae products, which we don't see very often. Aromatherapy Associates, however, we have encountered before in friends' houses, and we are definitely fans.
Boston.com reports on a new series of partnerships between JW Marriott and other brands that are intended to provide a "lifestyle experience" for guests—starting, of course, with the bathroom experience. Because that's where it all happens!
But, barring the possibility that your room comes with its own sauna or steam room, there are plenty of other, subtler, ways to experience the delights of aromatherapy from your hotel bathroom. Here are three tips on how to transform any product into an aromatherapy treatment:

Is That A Light-Up Bathtub Inside The May Fair? Why Yes, It Is

It's no wonder that The May Fair continues to stay on our most-loved London hotels list. Between lost sheep drama, hotel-branded cigarette jeans and the yellow-tastic Amarillo Suite, there's just a lot to love.
Right now, we're big-time crushing on their new Ebony Suite, whose bathroom has, yes, an illuminated tub. The bathroom was fitted out by Japanese toilet manufacturer Toto (the same company that built a toilet trike, and actually had someone ride it around Tokyo) and features other nifty details like color-changing sinks, remote control toilet, and a horizontal-stream shower.

The Peninsula Beverly Hills Has One of THOSE Toilets
For today's second edition of Bathroom Tuesdays (what can we say? We see a LOT of hotel bathrooms), we're looking at the toilet bowls of the rich and famous. That's because we spied one of these amazing high-tech loos in the Pink Suite of the Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel--a Neorest 500.
Yup, it's the same kind of water wizardry that we witnessed at the renovated Hotel Bel-Air where the toilet seat rises to greet you and you can choose several, um, cleansing options via remote control.
However, not all of the hotel's newly redone signature suites had the latest model. We spied at least one older edition of a Toto Washlet but it still had all the buttons and gadgetry of the Neorest, just a little fussier design.
Oddly enough, these toilets cost upwards of $3,000 which is just half the amount of one night in the Pink Suite....

Now You Can Take A Piece Of Hiro Ballroom Home With You

The time has come for the Maritime Hotel's Hiro Ballroom and Matsuri restaurant to close. After many years, many celebrity performances, and many penis festivals, the party has finally come to an end.
But that doesn't mean you can't still experience all the cool, Asian-inspired decor of the space long after it's gone. Eater reports that everything inside the ballroom and restaurant will be auctioned off starting next week. You like paper lanterns? You got 'em. You need a new Japanese bathroom sign? Now you know where to go. For all we know, they might even have some extra hot pots and sake barrels kicking around somewhere too.

Beet Juice Cocktails and Molton Brown Toiletries Make Us Smile

We already showed you one of our favorite things from the Windsor Court New Orleans last week. But for those of you (like us) who don't have several grand to spend on a bottle of wine, there are a few more treats in store.
Downstairs, at the hotel's brand new cocktail bar (aptly named...Cocktail Bar), expert mixologist Christine Jeanine Nielsen whips up some pretty nifty tipples. According to her, the most popular is the Firm Handshake (above left, $10), which includes single barrel Bourbon, ginger root tea, maple syrup and bitters. But, crazy beet-loving folks that we are, none got us as excited as a pisco, agave and lemon concoction that's made with fresh beet juice (above right, $9). Sure beets the price of a cocktail in New York!

Who Is Damigella At the Michelangelo And What Can She Do For You?

Normally, in hotel bathrooms, we like to look for little treasures and one-off finds. Sometimes we get lucky with bars of soap that offer motivational sayings, and sometimes we just find insanely awesome toiletry kits.
But at The Michelangelo, we found a whole new kind of bathroom treasure, and it starts with a little card that says "Damigella Service." No, this does not involve some girl called Damigella paying a special late-night visit to your room (it's OK, we thought the same thing at first). Instead, Damigella is kind of like the toiletry fairy: you say what you want, and, poof!, it appears.

How Much Would You Pay For A Private Sauna In Your Room?

You may never have given it much thought, but for the seriously wealthy, requesting a hotel room that comes with its own private sauna can be as commonplace as checking to see whether the hotel offers free WiFi. And just like with the whole WiFi issue, certain hotels do a better job of it than others.
Like, for instance, the Crowne Plaza Orlando Downtown (we're talking about saunas now, not WiFi). A local news channel ran a piece on which Orlando hotel suites are favored by the area's richest clients, and why. Not exactly the type of article that makes you feel good about your own finances, but fun to read nonetheless. Lo and behold, on the hotel's fourteenth floor, inside the Presidential Suite, is an en-suite sauna (above), included along with a steam shower, wet bar, and spare bedroom.
Now, how much would you pay for the luxury of a sauna two steps from your bed?

HotelChatter's Favorite Bathrooms Ever

For better or worse, today is Valentine's Day. And in honor of all the naughty business we know will be going down in hotel rooms around the globe today, we thought we'd take a look at some of HotelChatter's favorite bathrooms ever.
That's right. We've been serving up hotel stories for over eight years, and along the way, you can be sure we've done our fair share of hotel bathroom lovin'. So what are you waiting for? Click below to see our photo gallery!

The Veil Has Been Lifted From Waldorf-Astoria's Presidential Suite. Now What?

Barring the possibility that you're a former President—or that you don't mind spending $10,000/night—then you've likely never caught a glimpse of the Waldorf-Astoria's Presidential Suite. Why? Because until recently, the hotel has never allowed photography inside the suite.
Lucky for us, the NY Daily News has taken on the oppressive task of video touring the entire space—from gleaming top (the crystal chandelier in the master bedroom) to well-polished bottom (the black-and-white tiled bathroom floor).
Now, the goods are out in the open for all to see. So, what do you think?

Men Get A Little Something Extra In The Bathrooms at Trump Ocean Club

There's no accounting for taste
We stopped in at the newly-opened Trump Ocean Club in Panama recently, and of all the hotel's glittering features (infinity pools, ocean views from every room, a Louis Vuitton-inspired wine bar), our curiosity was perhaps most piqued by these inverted semen-shaped turquoise urinals, found near the 15th-floor lobby. Nothing like a urinal with a tail on it to get you nice and relaxed!
These are the only urinals in the hotel with this specific design—the rest of the bathrooms (public and otherwise) are much more traditional, including the women's bathroom next door, which, for obvious reasons, has no use for turquoise urinals. The employee who showed us around the place explained, "This is what happens when you let a woman designs a men's bathroom."
