The Coolest Hotel Instagram of the Day Goes To...
...The W Hotel Bali!
Yesterday, we teased you a bit with how hotels are gearing up for Summer with heat-wave worthy cocktails. Well, there's a place that only really sees summer year-round and knows how to serve up some easy, breezy drinks to soak up the sun. Bragging about their near-perfect weather, the W Hotel Bali just posted an Instagram that will stir envy with all of their followers.
Rooftop bars are cool and very few hotels do them as well as a W, so why not showcase the super hot sun and tropical libations with an over-the-top fabulous shot? We really can't find an answer for that, and we're totally alright with it.
There has to be something that is retro chic about lounging around surrounded by all things paradise, not to mention it makes us want to head back to Bali as soon as we can. With a few warmer days here in the 'nifty fifty', there is a glimmer of hope that Summer is right around the corner and we can find our position at our favorite roof-top hangout. This snap from the tropical island has us hoping the the mercury rises quickly because we might need a healthy does of vitamin D.

Regent Hotels Wants To Have Number One Resort In Bali
It looks like on June 1st, Regent Hotels will be making good on its promise to add a new resort in Sanur, on the south eastern coast of Bali; a welcome encore from its first opening in years in Phuket last December. And there’s no lack of ambition, with the hotel’s General Manager going on record to say that his ultimate goal is to make it “the number one resort in Bali”.
That will be a tall order on an island packed with noteworthy competition, including Four Seasons (times two), no less than three Aman Resorts, a St. Regis, and many others. So what kind of amazingness can we expect?

Andaz Will Be Tokyo-bound in 2014 (And Other News)

There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.
· Andaz Tokyo Will Aim High: If you thought Andaz Amsterdam and Andaz Savannah and Andaz Maui were the last scraps of Andaz news for a while, think again. Hyatt has just announced a brand new Andaz property opening in Tokyo's Toranomon business district in summer of 2014. The 164-room hotel will occupy the top six floors of a 52-story tower currently under construction, and, yes, there will be a rooftop bar. The hotel will also take over the 37th floor, which will be dedicated to an infinity pool, spa and fitness center. Though this location will be a first for Andaz, it will be Hyatt's fourth in Tokyo, and its ninth in Japan.

Sofitel To Bring A Luxury Resort to Bali
The tiny Indonesian island of Bali sure does turn out the best of the best when it comes to super luxurious properties for travelers looking for the ultimate tropical retreat. The elegant Sofitel will once again grace its shores with a new hotel on the horizon.
Scheduled to open in September of 2013, the luxury resort will be on the shores of one of Bali's most affluent areas Nusa Dua, is home to one five-star resort after another. The Sofitel will join the likes of Westin, Hyatt and Hilton.
Boasting a considerable 398 rooms and 17 private villas, this property won't be 'small chips'. Built around a series of infinity pools (that's what Bali is about, right?), the entire hotel will be just steps away from the sandy beaches of the Bali Sea, yet far enough away from the busy entertainment districts of Kuta and Seminyak. The private villas will all feature sea-views--great to capture sunsets like the one above.

Philippe Starck Will Take The Stairs To Bali In 2014

We're no strangers to French designer Philippe Starck putting his masterful mark in hotels (seeLe Royal Monceau, The Delano, and SLS South Beach, among our faves), but there's a new project brewing that has our ears perking right up: The Stairs, a new resort in Bali will be the first top-to-bottom Philippe Starck-designed villa resort in Asia.
And we're not talking about a lamp here and there. No, Starck will be handling the whole 215,278-square foot villa's design, from layout to the furniture (though hopefully this time, he'll ease off the pink). Construction is slated to begin this February, with an estimated opening date of early 2014.
Comprised of 12 villas, The Stairs will be located in Petitenget, a stylish nabe in Bali's Seminyak region, which has been called "The Island of the Gods". And we don't think that's just hyperbole.

So Many New Asia Hotels, So Little Time

As we mentioned earlier today, there's a hotel boom happening in Asia right now. There's so many to list, we're giving you a sort of Magic Mike-type news brief. A little tease, and a little unveiling. It's just a little show for now, but keep coming back and we'll keep giving you a little more...detail.
Rosewood Beijing, slated to open in summer 2013 in the business-centric Chaoyang District will be the brand’s first China property. The 279-room hotel, though in an urban location, will be filled with terraces, gardens and balconies throughout to go along with its intended residential feel. Guestrooms will be designed to look like luxury apartments, with big bathrooms, walk-in closets and even window-seats, and at 538 sq.ft., they’re said to be amongst the largest in Beijing. The hotel will have seven restaurants and lounges, an indoor swimming pool, yoga studio, and the Rosewood Sense spa with five suites designed for overnight stays.

A First Glimpse of the Le Méridien Bali at Jimbaran Bay
Have you ever been to the Four Seasons Bali Jimbaran? If yes, then you're likely smirking at the memory of an over-the-top stay at one of the best hotels in the world. If no, add it to your hotel bucket list tout de suite. Or don't…since right across the street there's a new construction site which, in October of this year (yeah we'll see about that), will become the new Le Méridien Jimbaran Bay.
We did a little spying on the property recently while on our way to the excellent fresh seafood warungs (casual beachside eateries) of this south end of Jimbaran Beach, and though the hotel's newest, largest buildings are still very much in the concrete-and-rebar stage, it's quite obvious that the resort's proximity to these restaurants and the wide, calm beach itself will be the top selling point.
In total, the property should total 139 suites in the renovated Ristia Resort. There's not much other information available, not even photos on the official Starwood site, but we do know that the property will feature a lagoon-style pool and a 3-story restaurant and bar with a top terrace specifically designed for taking in the famous Bali sunsets.

What Is This at Bali's Ayana Resort?
We like to keep it fun but informative here at HotelChatter so our newest series, What is This? is devoted to odd-looking items in hotel rooms that upon first glance look as if they serve only a decorative purpose. But everything happens for a reason, right? And we're here to tell you what these things really do.
So there's this bar, right? And it's down at the bottom of some cliffs, and it's in Bali. And from this bar, drinkers can have one of the coolest views of the legendary Bali sunset. The only downside is that you've got to get down...that...side.
The cliff drop-off between The Ayana Resort and the resort's Rock Bar is actually not an issue after all, since there's a mini funicular that takes load of about 5 people at a time down to imbibe only a few feet above the waves. That's what this white-roofed box is: the funicular at The Ayana.

1 Hotel Under $100: Best Western Kuta Beach
There's travel talk everywhere about how expensive it'll be to fly and drive this summer, so there has to be some savings somewhere, yes? The most obvious place will be in hotel rates, and so our gift to you this week will be one hotel a day that comes in under $100 a night.
Now, we're not saying every place will be of Ritz quality, because then it would be...well, the bloody Ritz. But the places will be nice enough for you to sleep at night.
Our Pick: Best Western Kuta Beach, Bali

So you're in Bali, having a nice long vacation and looking to kick back the pool with a cocktail and, maybe, enjoy al fresco dinners with a good bottle of wine. If you're staying at the W Resort & Spa Bali, or at least dining there at the WooBar, choosing a wine off the wine wall will likely be the most stressful thing you do all week.

If You Only Go to One Hotel to See the Famous Bali Sunset...
As if you needed any more reason to think about beaches and long walks on them after this last Memorial Day weekend, you need to see this sunset view at the The Anantara Resort in Seminyak, Bali. We may have give you the full tour of the property last week, but the crowning highlight is literally the tippy-top of the hotel: their half-indoor, half-outdoor restaurant SOS Supper Club.
Really, there's no need to "save our ship" as the SOS acronym means, but rather it's just a cute name for a ridiculously well located dinner spot. The Anantara sits right on Seminyak Beach, right in the key zone called the "sunset coast."
