One of our favorite hotel lounges that just happens to have an amazing fireplace is the London Edition. This photo doesn't begin to describe how great a lobby space this is - ya really got to be there
Chilly winter weather got you down, road warriers? Chin up, as you bundle up, and seek warm refuge in the lounge of your favorite hotel. There's a pretty good chance there's a fireplace in the lounge or bar that should take the chill out of everything but your drink.
In modern times such as these, hotel fireplaces are selected more for ambiance and environmentally-friendly objectives than for roasting marshmallows. But there's no denying that hotels have made fireplaces a major feature in the communal spaces, guest rooms (if you're lucky or have a platinum Amex), rooftops, and even the spa. Lifestyle brands as in W Hotels, for example, typically have a fireplace in their "Living Rooms" , aka lobbies.
Just in case you hadn't paid much notice before, we've compiled a photo gallery of hotel spaces that include a fireplace. Have a look around these hotels, and if you're in a hotel now, go find one there. If there isn't one, show the hotel this story and say, "But all the cool kids have them."

Not that you want to hear about cold weather and snow during what seems like the coldest week ever (Ed note: don't be too sure!), there's something cool (pun intended) happening north of the border: Today marks the official opening of Montreal's Snow Village!
Built in the city's Parc Jean Drapeau, the Snow Village is North America's first and only entire village made of snow and ice. Now going on its second year, the architects and sculptors used the Big Apple as inspiration for this year's layout and design behind the attached Ice Hotel. It's like Montreal's very-own (snowy) version of Central Park and we're not above making snow angels.
Guess we'll need to explain that Ice Hotel if you've not heard us talk about it before.
Last winter we proved we don’t wuss out when it comes to the cold, so when we heard about Montreal’s new Snow Village, we strapped on our snowshoes (ok, not really), and headed to the Great White North.
Montreal’s latest attraction is a five minute ride from the downtown area on Sainte-Hélène island. This area hosts an annual winter festival in its Parc Jean-Drapeau, but this year it goes over the top with the addition of the Snow Village, three giant igloos forming a ice hotel complete with restaurant, bar, conference center, and chapel to rival Quebec City’s famous seasonal structure. It opens this evening and is set (hopefully!) to remain in place until it’s deconstructed on March 31st.
Eerily sculpted headboards adorn rooms at the Balea Lac Ice Hotel
It's been over a year since we last reported on an ice hotel, which we took as a sign that the kitschy travel trend had seen its final day pass. But rounding out this unusually mild winter season is news about the latest contender in (relatively) cheap and chilly accommodations: Romania.
The Balea Lac is one in a series of European icy lodgings that are rebuilt to compensate for melting and other seasonal changes. Temperatures inside top off at a spine-tingling 35 degrees Fahrenheit, though rest assured, every stay includes a "specialist sleeping bag" and some furs.

One of London's ongoing summer events, a Rooftop Film Club hosted at a popular Hoxton bar, inspired something of a cult-like fervor among local film buffs. Piggybacking on Londoners' love of all things cinema and all things, uh, rooftop, is the Berkeley hotel, who is transplanting the concept from East to West and taking full advantage of their posh terrace climes (not to mention outdoor lamp heaters).

While it's possible to find passable skiing conditions any time of year, depending on location, it's winter time that ski aficionados spend the year anticipating with zeal. Europe, with its bounty of snowy climes, is home to some of the world's best and most exclusive ski chalets—locations that provide near perfect powdery conditions for "woosh-wooshing" downhill.
We've sussed out some of the continent's most luxurious ski hotels for this feature; they're places you can kick back with spiked hot cocoa if you so choose, yet still get you up close and personal with slopeside action. Take note, Jonny Moseley-types.
Slough off dry winter skin after a day of skiing with some honeyed help
Bees, the hottest in hotel trends? The insects have been creating a lot of, ahem, buzz on the hotel news circuit, with many a locale housing beehives to make honey on-site. But they're not just being used to produce jars of sweet stuff for kitchen use: at Hotel de Charme les Airelles in the French Alps, five hives are kept as a resource for Spa Valmont for Les Airelles. And no, the little stingers aren't being used to give guests' lips an Angelina Jolie-esque fullness.

Us Hotel Chatter-ers on the ground in London were recently unnerved at the site of boxed minced pies in our local Marks & Spencer. Holiday season: it has begun. Shudder.
Local hotels are gearing up in kind, crafting robust packages to spread a little Christmas cheer to their winter patrons (and cheer to those handling the profit-raking side of things). The Montague on the Gardens has gone over the top in conceiving of yule tide offerings, cobbling together a—wait for it—"magical winter wonderland" on their Wood Deck. And yes, there will be reindeer.

The weather is getting chilly—and downright freezing in some parts—which means that hotels are rolling out one of our favorite wintertime amenities, ice rinks. Hitting the ice just makes it feel like the holidays, and you have your pick of hotel rinks across the country where you can lace up and work on your figure eight.
Check out five hotel ice rinks after the jump.
View of the San Francisco Bay from Hotel Griffon
Like the New Year's hangover you couldn't shake last weekend, hotels are still rolling out 2010-themed deals to pack rooms during a usually slow travel month. As reported on our sister site Jaunted, January is when you can find some of the steepest discounts, as most people return to chaotic work and family schedules, with no time for R&R.
San Francisco's Hotel Griffon is one hotel offering such a deal, with a "Buy One Night, Get the Second for $20.10" promotion that runs through January. That's kind of unheard of for a hotel that lies on the city's Embarcadero strip, just a stone's throw away from the Ferry Building.

The JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa may be smack-dab in the Sonoran Desert, but the hotel isn't letting the arid climate stop it from ushering the holidays with a winter wonderland complete with a 30-foot tree, sledding and ice skating.
The hotel will open Arctic Pass, an outdoor 1,500-square-foot synthetic ice rink and the first of its kind in Southern Arizona, when it kicks off its wintertime festivities on December 18. Santa will be in attendance, ditching the reindeer and arriving by helicopter at 8:30 p.m. After posing for pictures with the guy in the big red suit, hit the ice.

In anticipation of winter, we told you about five hotels where you can sleep and ice skate earlier this week. For those of you who are jonesing for some cold-weather fun, here are other hotels that have rinks nearby so you can lace up and hit the ice.
