Pickwick Arms Gets More Mod Rooms

Go To The Hotel's Web

A tipster lets us know that the Pickwick Arms Hotel in Manhattan has been getting some renovations done on its lobby and guestrooms.

The budget hotel on the Eastside features "Pod" rooms, essentially tiny tiny tiny rooms (even for NYC) but with hip decor and hi-tech stuff like LCD-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and free WiFi. Fortunately for us, our spy was able to get a sneak peek on the new rooms. Here they dish about the voyeuristic bathrooms:

The bathrooms in the Pod rooms are not only unique, interesting and well-equipped with rain style shower heads, but if you're a freak, the see through shower door which separates the shower from the room is pretty useful. Think of the room as a bedroom with a walk in closet type bathroom.

The POD rooms that do not have a bathroom and instead have a shared bath come with a monitoring display in the room that tells you which of the shared baths are occupied. By the way the shared baths are probably the nicest you will ever share with a stranger.

The hotel will also get an outside garden/deck bar off the new lobby (which will open around January) as well as a roof deck on one of the upper floors complete with a couple of hot tubs and possibly a bar.

There's no word on whether or not the rates will go up at the place due to the recent renovations, but our source says the rooms should remain extremely affordable which for NYC is sadly, about $200 a night.

Psst...is that wheatgrass we spy in the room pic?

W Hotels is Wheatgrass Agent Zero

Where: 541 Lexington Ave. [map], New York, ny, United States, 10022

We are here to not only join Gawker's crusade of dumping a shot of vodka into every tin of wheat grass we see, but also to speculate that W Hotels New York may be patient zero in the current wheatgrass pandemic. That's right, we snapped the above photo sometime back in the summer of 2004 outside the W on Lex, back when wheatgrass was just starting to take over every aging boutique hotel in Manhattan. Two years later, it is definitely time to stop the spread of wheatgrass.

Oh, and for good measure, if we remember correctly there was a bowl of green apples in the W Lex lobby.
