Nestled 1600 feet up from the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, a luxury resort is recreating itself--The Burgenstock Resort, scheduled to re-open in 2017. When all is said and done, there will be three hotels: The Burgenstock Hotel; the circa 1906 Palace Hotel; and the Waldhotel, a medical wellness destination. Add to that a spa the size of a football field, a conference center, residences, and several dining options.
The Burgenstock Resort is being developed by Katara Hospitality, who are also presently transforming the Royal Savoy Lausanne. Katara has again retained London-based MKV Design to take on the interiors of the Burgenstock Hotel, as well as the Palace Hotel renovation and the mega Alpine Spa. Right now, we're getting an early look at the Burgenstock Hotel.
Miraval Resort & Spa has had besties Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King gush over it as the perfect girlfriend getaway locale, and this past May, blonde beauty Sharon Stone flew in to the desert oasis for a solo sojourn and the opening of the resort’s new Life in Balance Spa with Clarins.

In our new "Hotel of the Week" feature, we look at a property that everyone is talking about and give you the lowdown of what's going on at the hot spot hotel.
This week, we're seeing a lot of buzz on the hotel page for Four Seasons Maui, so we decided to take a look at what’s happening at the property.
If inspiration and wellness are what are missing in your life, then it just might be that a trip to Thailand is what you need. More specifically, you should try the all-very-different wellness retreats that Chiang Mai's Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi have got on offer.
Scheduled to run at various dates between November this year and February 2010, the retreats each have a different focus but a common goal: to get you living a healthier and fulfilling life. Of course we think our life will be pretty fulfilling just by having a vacation in Thailand, but if you want more, then take your pick from one of the four.
Big news, friends: the Canyon Ranch Miami Beach serves booze. That’s right, Canyon Ranch has its first (!!) liquor-dispensing location, reports the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd. Naturally, we’re talking 100 percent organic spirits along the lines of raspberry-vodka-and-hibiscus-tea martinis, but hey, that’s still going to do the job a whole lot quicker than all that biodynamic wine it's known for.
Though Canyon Ranch seems to maintain its aversion to alcohol at its other two locations (in Tucson and the Berkshires), the temptations of Miami have presumably proven too powerful. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right? “Our beverage offerings are reflective of our beliefs,” panders the drinks menu. “Research indicates that alcohol, when consumed in moderation, can help people live long and well.”
Well, we could have told you that. No word on whether room service cuts you off once you’ve “consumed in moderation” or if they let you be the judge of that.
