Hotel Sick Strikes Hilton Dulles Airport
January 19, 2007 at 11:36 AM | 1 Comment
Be careful if you are headed to this DC-area Hilton. A case of norovirus that caused 100 people to fall ill, has forced the Hilton at Dulles Aiport to shut down until Tuesday, while cleaning crews work to sanitize the building.
Health officials in Fairfax County, Va., said guests at the hotel started getting sick Tuesday. Officials said 90 guests and 10 hotel workers began to experience very sudden and intense gastrointestinal symptoms. The hotel contacted Fairfax County's health department and a field team was dispatched to the hotel.
The likely culprit? Improper hand-washing. Ewww....

Kimpton Offers 20 Percent Off at D.C. Palomar Hotel
November 9, 2006 at 2:54 PM | 0 Comments

Kimpton Hotels has gotten all sorts of discount happy these days, with their latest offer being 20 percent off the brand-new Hotel Palomar in Washington, D.C.
The offer is good from now through March 31st and is available for the best rate on your selected date. Use the rate code EMM when booking online. This is actually a pretty nice deal, considering this hotel has a ballet-trained staff on hand to serve you.
And since opening over the summer the hotel has received some solid reviews.
We were completely pleased by every aspect of the hotel. The lobby, walkways, and rooms are chic, clean, and classically decorated. The bedding was lush and comfortable. The staff members were incredibly friendly and helpful. From the bellman to the front desk to the concierge to the sommelier, we were treated like we were upper class (and we're actually just a middle-class-20-something couple).

To Sleep, Perchance to Dream
November 7, 2006 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

We know hotels are meant for sleeping, but the Fairmont in Washington, D.C., is taking it to an entirely literal level of zzzzen.
On Saturday, January 6, 2007, the Fairmont DC will offer a slumber party with sleep therapist Ann Dyer, who will present her trademarked Yoga Sleep Ritual. Although Dyer is the sleep expert, guests will begin their descent to dreamland with a ballroom seminar featuring Robert deStefano, founder of Sleep Garden and director of zYoga.
There, he'll reveal the secret to ixnaying what he calls the "negative sleep narrative." If you haven't fallen asleep by then, deStefano's speech is followed by a 90 minute zYoga seminar with Dyer.
Bedtime is set for 10pm, again, if you haven't already found your head rolling and eyes closing. Although they haven't said anything about having someone carry you up to your room, when you wake up the next morning you'll enjoy a continental breakfast and invigorating morning yoga session.
All this for $199 a person. Dyer's seminar alone is worth $150, according to the press release. Suddenly, we're feeling verrry sleepy....
