So we've been profiling the wonderful, wild and wacky holiday hotel decorations and we think that this holiday display at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Hotel is all three. That's because they've just unveiled a 1,200-pound life-sized CHOCOLATE Santa Claus accompanied by an armchair, fireplace and Christmas tree, all made out of chocolate!

The sculpture is the creation of the hotel's executive pastry chef and only two-time world champion pastry chef, Laurent Branlard. Here are some stats on the work that went into this:

· Man Hours: 300 hours
· Dark Chocolate: 880 lbs.
· Milk Chocolate: 132 lbs.
· White Chocolate: 154 lbs.
· Cocoa Butter: 120 lbs.

Disney's Dolphin Hotel Shows Guests the Magical World of Bus Stops

September 24, 2009 at 2:56 PM | by | Comment (1)

You know the scene. You open the door to your brand new hotel room, run over to the window, open the blinds and bam, you are hit with the anti-view. Maybe you are looking down a dirty alley, witnessing a drug deal, staring at an air shaft in the face, or seeing a brick wall. Whatever you are viewing it is not extremely pleasurable. Help out your fellow hotel mavens by uploading your anti-views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number with the not-so-easy-on-the-eyes view.

When superstar athletes win big championship games, the TV cameras always (infamously) ask them, "Where are you going?" and said champions always answer, "I'm going to Disney World!". But they may rethink their answer if they ever see the view from the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Orlando.

HotelChatter Flickr Pool, member Teruterubouzu writes in:

Our standard room had a lovely view -- of the bus stop. We didn't get a magical upgrade to a balcony room with resort view this time around. That said, it was recently refurbished, very conveniently located and we got a great room rate.

Still, that bus stop sees some action. Like every 15 minutes when guests pile on and ride off to the Disney Resorts. On the bright side, we guess this room view helps that you know exactly when the bus is coming. Rates start at $149 a night.

Stay Three Nights Free at Disneyworld Resorts

February 3, 2009 at 11:51 AM | by | Comment (1)

The happiest place on earth is doing its part to share the recession-deal cheer. Families in need of a little Walt Disney World magic can save $400 on a seven-night stay between now and the end of June, resort spokesman Rick Sylvan told the AP.

Specifically, guests who purchase four nights and days of a full-price Walt Disney Travel Company “Magic Your Way” package earn three free nights and days. (Bonus: That includes tickets.) Plus, spring break travelers who book the package from March 1-9 and 17-29 get a $200 Disney gift card.

The deal means a family of four can stay for seven nights starting at $1,375, which includes tickets as well as lodgings at a Disney Value Resort. Top-tier packages include seven nights at Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts for $2,611, which counts an impressive $1,320 savings.

No word on how well the packages are selling during a characteristically slow season for Disney. Book the package at Disneyworld.com/3free.

The Hilton's Grand Vacations Club in Orlando, the mecca for family vacations, has put together two themed packages that either a family of brainiacs or a family who loves to karaoke will probably appreciate.

The first package is the "Out of the World" getaway which includes a NASA-themed kids welcome amenity and admission to four for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex where the family will get a guided tour of the entire place.

The package is only good through September 30th and starts at $257 per room. To book call the resort directly at 407-465-2638 and request rate code KSC.

The next package is the "Hilton Grand Vacation That Rocks" which is available through December 31. It includes karaoke nights on the hotel property and a $50 Hard Rock Cafe gift card. Could the karaoke night be the start of your child's very own High School Musical? (Yes, we've seen this movie. More than once.) Just remember, a three-night minimum is required and rooms start at $119 a night. For more information, book here.

Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

Heard Around the Hotel World: The Healthy Edition

July 5, 2007 at 4:24 PM | by | Comments (0)

We've recently received a bunch of emails (thankfully not hate mail) that are about hotels announcing new health programs--some fitness and some life-saving heavy stuff.

So instead of our usual gossipy Heard Around the Hotel World, we thought we do a round-up of the good-for-you hotel news. You might need it after that BBQ session yesterday anyways.

HotelChatter OpenThread: Walt Disney World Hotel Deals

July 3, 2007 at 3:34 PM | by | Comment (1)

[HotelChatter OpenThreads are a place for readers to get in here and talk about hot stories and issues of the day in an open forum. If you are already a HotelChatter member log in comment away.]

We are going to be taking more of a closer look at the World of Disney since it's practically the Las Vegas for Families and our inbox is never wrong about what you guys want to know more about.

As you may have noticed we recently did two stories on hotel deals near Mickey's house and some of you sent in your thoughts, critiques, and added information about these said deals--or were they deals at all?

Realizing, that there are an alarming amount of Disney-philes out there armed with more Disney intelligence than exists in Walt's cryogenically frozen head, we decided that you will be our trusted experts on this one.

So instead of reading all the tips and suggestions sent into HotelChatter headquarters by the Disney army, we figured it was time to put up a Disney Deals OpenThread. This is where you can drop off all your tricks for getting hotels, the latest news on Disney hotel deals and if you're nice enough, you can drop off some of your opinions on Disney Deals.

We'll be watching this thread over the next couple of weeks and highlighting what we find to be the most magical comment in the world.

Mickey in the Summer: Disney World's 'Wonderful Weeks' Hotel Deals

July 2, 2007 at 4:20 PM | by | Comments (0)

Disney World is not for everyone. For example, it is not for us. We just can't imagine going to Disney World now that we are past the age of 12. But we understand that a lot of you have children or grandchildren who beg mercilessly to go to Disney World.

Yet, even though you will give in to the cries (literally) of your beloved little ones, Disney World is crazy expensive! There's an alternative though. It's called the Wonderful Weeks of Disney and it's promoted by the theme park itself. Each season, the theme park highlights its lighter weeks when you can expect fewer crowds and hopefully get some bargains.

For the Summer Season, the lighter weeks begin August 12 and run through September 27, which is also during hurricane season. So you take that risk of getting rained out.

While the tickets are still crazy--$67 a day for people 10 and older, $56 a day for ages 3-9--there is a bit of a break on the hotel scene.

Clicky Mouse: Summer Specials in Orlando

June 27, 2007 at 12:34 PM | by | Comments (2)

Sure, there are swell summer rates at places like The Renaissance Orlando Resort at SeaWorld. One for $149 a night (Promotional Code LRW) is more than half the high season rate of $309. However, this does not include taxes or parking. Add those, and we're looking at $175 (and change) a night.

That math prompted us to see what we could do at a more upscale resort. So we tried The Villas of Grand Cypress and guess what we found?

Four Seasons and Mickey Mouse Making Rich Disney-philes' Dreams Come True

March 21, 2007 at 9:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

The news is a tad old but we just discovered that the Four Seasons hotel chain is pairing up with Walt Disney World to build a luxury hotel, residences and an 18-hole "championship"* golf course on the theme park's northeast border.

Finally, a luxury hotel in Disney World that isn't all about Disney characters or so we hope.

The Toronto-based luxury hotel chain is part of two expansion plans that will take eight to 10 years to fully develop and will include single- and multifamily vacation homes, fractional ownership homes and a 450-acre retail, dining and lodging district, said Meg Crofton, Disney World's president.

Yes, that's right. There will be two Four Seasons development in Disney World, to be completed after 2010. The second resort will actually be closer located to Disney World proper and will include (what else?) retail shops, restaurants and small-scale entertainment venues.

But what we are really curious about is whether or not there will be Mickey Mouse stickers on the toilet paper.

*--How come these are "championship" golf courses if they haven't even been built yet? Shouldn't they at least have a championship there before using that description?
