We love it when we arrive at a hotel and there's a fantastic robe for us to lounge around in. Some of our favorites have made it into stories and in our suitcases (we kid!).

So, we were most intrigued to learn the W New York Union Square and CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Runner Up, Creatures of the Wind, is releasing a limited edition, custom design robe inspired by the designers’ stay in the hotel’s E-WOW suite(or Extreme Wow--the W's take on presidential digs).

The rose and orange silk peplum-style robe, which retails for $250, was designed using cues and hints from the recently renovated E-WOW suite, so you'll see some of the same colors in both.

Lindsay Lohan's "Burning" Bridges With Yet, Another Hotel

It's a wonder she gets a hotel in any city at this point given that trouble seems to "follow" Lindsay Lohan wherever she goes!

She did win our award for the "Biggest Celebrity Performance in 2012" and, by the looks of it, she is campaigning for a repeat title in 2013.

As if W Union Square didn't learn their lesson from the last time they had her as a guest, here is another tragic tale of LiLo in a hotel room.

This time it involves copious amounts of cigarette burns totally nearly $50,000 of damage. Well, slap your momma! What in fresh hell is going on, here?

Ho Hum, Holiday Inn's Gonna Come. But Ooh, Then a Philly W?

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 100 North Chris Columbus Blvd [map], Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, 19106
January 14, 2013 at 9:04 AM | by | Comments (5)

We were on Columbus Boulevard in Philly last weekend when we came across the scene in the photo above. Formerly a Comfort Inn, we saw boards on the doors and a small note that said “closed for renovations.” As you can see, they put up a fat teaser for all to see, but no other details about what the property would become were available on-site.

Well, we did some digging, and guess what? It’s going to be a Holiday Inn and will open in March. Cue the sound effects and let the wind out of our sails, because we’re officially disappointed. A hip, vacation-oriented property in that location would have gone a long way to help an area that is currently undergoing a face-lift.

A public space was recently added under the Ben Franklin Bridge, as well as a new bar added to the nearby marina. With Festival Pier and Penn’s Landing within walking distance, the next logical step would have been the addition of a hotel that would attract leisure travelers.

Oh well.

W Hotels Designs Detox Program For New Year's Diet Stragglers

January 10, 2013 at 2:12 PM | by | Comments (0)

At the beginning of the year we thumbed our noses at New Year's resolutions that involved dieting by showing you a week's worth of decadent meals at the Four Seasons Chicago to start 2013 on a more interesting note.

Well, now we guess we better get on the detox bandwagon, as this ditty from W Hotels just came in our mailbox, making us wonder if there's been rumors of our "festive" ways.

W hotels in New York has teamed up with Cooler Cleanse, a cold pressed juice and raw food cleanse co-founded by Juice Generation’s Eric Helms and enthusiast Salma Hayek, to create a Detox to Retox package. Available at any of the four W hotels in New York, guests will receive the newly launched Juice for a Day program, which features a six-pack of juices designed to bump up energy, decrease calories, and revitalizing the mind and body. Celeb Performance of 2012: Lindsay Lohan Acts Up And Down

December 28, 2012 at 2:19 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's that time of year again: the 2012 HotelChatter Awards! Today and Monday, we'll be showcasing the best (and worst) of hotels over the past year. But we couldn't do it without you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or shoot us an email. And the Award goes to...

Some would say “performance” is a euphemism for “acting out”. We’ll go with either of these defintions, because it doesn’t matter really—girl Lindsay Lohan has been doing all that and then some.

The acts of cray-cray have been numerous this year, from racking up a ridonkulous $46K bill at LA’s Chateau Marmont, the hit and run pandemonium of the Porsche variety outside NYC’s Dream Downtown, and then there was that abuse incident with not-so-BFF congressional aide Christian LaBella at the W Union Square, which involved a physical altercation between the pair and a pulling of a fire alarm. Mercy! And these were just acts that involved hotels! There's a laundry list of more mayhem we're too tired to get into.

New Life for the W New Orleans- French Quarter

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 316 Chartres Street [map], New Orleans, LA, United States, 70130
December 13, 2012 at 1:07 PM | by | Comments (0)

Last summer, we reported on on the W New Orleans - French Quarter's $9 million renovations, which are part of W's larger plan to update 11 of their North American properties, including outposts in Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles.

As the brand continues to expand internationally (new W's are popping up in Bangkok, Milan, Singapore, and Verbier), the idea seems to be to get back to what made the brand so innovative and aspirational in the first place, playing on its strengths of incorporating local elements, like food and music, into the experience. (We've also heard they hope to reinvigorate their in-house spa concept, as well, which could definitely use it.)

So if going local is the goal, then the NOLA property ought to fit right in. Set in the French Quarter (there's also another W near the Warehouse District), the property's 97 rooms were redesigned by NYC-based Nemaworkshop to reflect two iconic aspects of the city: jazz and voodoo.

Read on to take a look at some of the rooms!

Starwood To Open Petra-Inspired W Amman In 2016

Where: Amman, Jordan
December 11, 2012 at 9:47 AM | by | Comment (1)

Though Amman, the bustling, sprawling capital of Jordan, has plenty to offer in the way of sightseeing, cafes, outdoor markets, and shops, it's never exactly dazzled in the hotel department. Sure, a few upscale options exist (Le Royal Amman, InterContinental Amman, Four Seasons Amman), but many are outdated and have difficulty attracting a younger, more discerning clientele.

But that might be about to change, with the announcement yesterday of a 280-room W Amman, set to open in 2016.

According to HotelierMiddleEast, work is scheduled to begin soon on the 36-storey, mixed-use tower. While the exact location in Amman is unknown, we're told the hotel will sit above eight levels of offices and high-end retail outlets.

Oh, and another detail? Outside of the US, W tends to get a little more adventurous with the design of their hotels (see: W Barcelona, W Shanghai The Bund, opening in 2014), and W Amman will be no exception. Paying homage to Jordan's most popular tourist attraction, the design of W Amman will in fact be inspired by the city of Petra. No easy feat, considering the ancient site dates back over 2,000 years, and was built into sheer rock face!

It's Repeal Day! Drink Up At These Hotel Bars

December 5, 2012 at 7:06 PM | by | Comments (0)

Did you know it was Repeal Day? Sadly, we got through this whole entire Hump Day without being none the wiser. A tragedy, to be sure. Not that we haven't been loving autumn cocktails, we're not completely out the loop, ya know.

But, all is not lost. It's dinner time on the East coast, and the West Coast hasn't hit quitting time yet, so there's still time for everyone to take advantage of today's festivities. But, first, we'll clue you in on what Repeal Day is, just in case you didn't know.

To make it short (obviously time is of the essence) back on this day in 1933 Prohibition was ended in America after 13 years of (supposedly) dry living. Americans celebrated the "Repeal" of Prohibition by basically drinking their behind off. It has been celebrated every December 5th, since.

So in recognition of this "holiday", we guide you to some hotel bars that we think are serving some choice spirits.

Hotels That Let You Eat Your After-Dinner Booze

November 29, 2012 at 7:24 PM | by | Comment (1)

Wish you could have your cake, and drink it too? Well you’re in luck as we've found hotels that will serve you after-dinner booze for dessert!

That’s right: boozy desserts. This liquor food trend is hitting hotels from east to west. From zany liquor-infused marshmallows to drunken ice cream, choose your poison.

We've found three hotel restaurants sure to keep you merry until the very last bite.

Different Point of View restaurant at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix serves a unique mash-up of liqueur-infused marshmallows complimentary to any guest buying drinks in the lounge. That’s right- they’re free! But wait, there’s more. The lounge includes a ridiculously swanky outdoor patio with 360 views of downtown Phoenix where a cozy fire pit awaits the roasting, ahem, buzzing. Each hand-made marshmallow features a different liqueur flavor including Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico (hazelnut), Amaretto (almond) and Kahlua (coffee) and comes with a variety of dipping sauces like caramel or vanilla cream. They're also equipped with long sticks so you don’t burn yourself alive while roasting—but we must say, the taste is acquired. If you like booze, you’ll like these. But be careful roasting as they do drip up a storm and a bib isn't included.

W Bangkok Opens And Gets On Our Wish List

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 106 North Sathorn Road, Bangkok, Thailand, 10500
November 27, 2012 at 9:55 AM | by | Comments (0)

The iconic grass of the W Hotel will have no problem growing in its newest tropical location. Planning to open on December 7, the W Bangkok will wow guests with its design and cheeky sophistication.

Reflecting the city's common juxtaposition of ancient buildings next to modern highrises, the hotel will marry both of these Bangkokian elements. The structure is half 31-story glass tower and half 100 year old heritage building that used to be the former Russian Embassy. We've previously noted how sexy the building is; this place will most certainly be a scene if you are a local or passing through the city.

With 407 guestrooms, this won't be a peanut operation, but the signature features we know the W does so well will be repped. W Lounge, Great Room, WOOBAR, and WET pool bar will all play a role on making your stay fun. And, of course, being in a foodies city such as Bangkok, The Kitchen Table will serve up tradition Thai fare with a modern and whimsical twist.

W Times Square Is Throwing A Twinkie Party

Where: 1567 Broadway [map], New York, NY, United States
November 20, 2012 at 9:03 AM | by | Comments (0)

We're getting a pretty big kick out of all the Hostess-related headlines we're seeing right now on Google: "If Twinkie dies, we killed it" (CNN), "The Twinkie Manifesto" (NYTimes), "What the Twinkie's Demise Tells Us" (Washington Post), and our favorite, Gawker's guide on how to make your own twinkies.

Things are still pretty up in the air for the 82-year-old baked goods company, though America breathed a collective sigh of relief yesterday afternoon, when it was announced that Hostess has agreed to sit down with the BCTGM union and talk through their problems.

But that hasn't stopped folks from buying up every last box of Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs available in the stores. And it certainly hasn't stopped W Times Square from seizing on the opportunity to put together a special Hostess-themed cocktail pairings menu to honor the occasion.

The menu, which is only available for four days—starting today!—will feature pairings like the TBR (a twinkie with a Pabst Blue Ribbon), the Dinger (Chocolate Manhattan with two Ding Dongs) and the Sno Ho Ho (Chocolat Raspberi Martini with Sno-Balls).
