What we we were really hanging out for was the afternoon tea service that kicks off at The Villa By Barton G on November 1. But since we were in town last week, we asked for a tour of the property anyway and were pretty happy with our consolation prize: laying eyes on that double-sized king bed in the suite that Donatella Versace used to sleep in when she visited her brother Gianni. (RIP).
Yes, our hints weren't quite obscure enough to stop people guessing that the massive bed indeed belongs to the former Versace Mansion, now super-exclusive guest home, restaurant and event space, The Villa By Barton G.
Take a spin through our gallery for a look at even more gilded grandeur. Just think: next time you see tourists posing outside those black gates along Ocean Drive you won't have to wonder what's on the other side...

Oh, good lord: the folks behind the new Palazzo Versace Hotel (yes, like the design house) coming to Dubai in 2010 have announced plans for a refrigerated beach.
Oh yes, we mean it. Allow us to clarify: by "refrigerated beach", we mean an outdoor beach that guests will go to one of the last truly fun, free things to do in this world will have a network of pipes beneath the sand's surface that contain a coolant, making the sand a lovely, cool temperature on top, thereby ensuring that no hotel guest's feet are uncomfortable as they frolic about in the sunshine.
And now we present you with the second edition of our Original Boutique Hotels series. Enjoy.
Nowadays, it's all the rage for fashion designers to create hotels. But just remember that Donatella Versace was one of the first designers in the boutique hotel game with the Palazzo Versace Hotel on Australia's Gold Coast.
Of course, in the words of the all-knowing Heidi Klum in the fashion world, "One day you are in and one day you are out." Thus the Palazzo Versace had to make some changes.
The hotel has just wrapped up a AUD $5 million renovation--its first since opening more than seven years ago. Label-loving guests will now find new bedding and upholstery as well as updated technology, including LCD televisions, in all 205 rooms which are completely furnished from the Versace Home Collection.
