5 Decadent Hotel Desserts In NYC To Treat Your Sweetie To

February 12, 2013 at 12:03 PM | by | Comment (1)

In case our round-up of Valentine's Day couples' packages didn't inspire any last-minute getaways (budgets are tight, we know), here's another tack for amorous couples planning a visit to one of the world's most gourmet-obsessed cities, New York.

Four Seasons New York: The hotel's prix fixe Valentine's Day menu ($105 per person) will include, among other things, a Chocolate and Passion Tart, specially concocted by Executive Pastry Chef Salvatore Martone for the holiday. The dish incorporates all the V-Day staple ingredients (champagne, strawberries, chocolate and passion fruit), and is the most adorable thing we've seen on a plate ever.

(It's also a lot more affordable than the hotel's diamond-studded dessert we featured back in December.)

For four more decadent dishes, read on!

It’s nearly that time of the year again: cards, flowers, candle-lit dinners, moon-lit walks in the park, and more-or-less crazy Valentine’s day hotel packages. We’ll give you a round-up of options to spoil your special someone with on February 14 soon, but before we get to those we’re throwing one suggestion in the mix that will require a little bit more planning (and perhaps slightly deeper pockets).

First of all, you’ll have to make your way to Singapore, more specifically Sentosa Island, and the luxurious Capella Resort. Once you get there, you’ll need $14,000 (S$17,999) for the “Eternally Yours” package, which you’ll burn through in one short, but hopefully memorable, night.

For Valentine's Day, serial hotel mob scene instigator Justin Bieber decided to treat his girlfriend to somewhere nice. Anywhere on the town. Penthouse views. Heated towel racks. Grilled venison.

Yeah, the Bieb knows how to sleep around. After being spotted at the Dream Downtown's lobby restaurant last weekend, he found another, less scene-y spot for him and Selena Gomez to do a little dinner-and-a-movie action in a swank suite for Valentine's Day—except we're guessing there was a lot less "dinner" than "movie" going on, if you know what we mean...wink, wink.

Three Tasty Valentine's Day Hotel Specials Worth Sampling

February 14, 2012 at 9:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

BLT Steak at The Betsy

The Valentine's Day hotel packages have been running hot and heavy for awhile now. But with the day upon us, we though you might appreciate these last-minute options. Here are Three Tasty Hotel Valentine's Day specials being served up today:

1. BLT Steak and The Betsy Hotel
This restaurant (a favorite of ours for its pretty decor and meat-alicious menu) is offering a poem with dinner all this week--you can request one from your server although they'll probably offer it up when they bring your bread basket and water. Guests can choose from poems by Maria Rainer Rilke, Hyam Plutzik, Campbell McGrath, EE Cummings, and other lovelorn souls. They're free to take, and of course read to your dining partner at your leisure. Apart from being old-time romantic, the poetry idea seems to have sprung from the fact that the hotel owner's late father was himself a poet. (You can request one of his poems, too.)

Hotel Rates In NYC That Are Making Us Smile Right Now

February 14, 2012 at 9:05 AM | by | Comments (0)

On Friday, we shared a deal we found for a hotel room in NYC going for the very reasonable rate of $115/night on Quikbook. Now, we get that this is still winter and all—aka the slow period for hotels—but that post made us stop and think to ourselves, 'Surely there are other ways to enjoy NYC without breaking the bank on a hotel room?'

And indeed, when you're willing to get a little creative, there are.

Start with Manhattan's flophouse-turned-chic-hotel, the Bowery House. Rates here start as low as $49/night for bunks and $59/night for cabins, though honestly, you may as well bite the bullet and go for one of the cabins. You'll forget all about that $10 difference once you end up with one of those cute cubbyhole rooms all to yourself!

Where Not to Celebrate Valentine's Day This Year

February 8, 2012 at 3:20 PM | by | Comments (0)

Last week we rounded up some hotels for lovers this Valentine's Day but if you're not currently attached, that doesn't mean you can't hit up a hotel for V-Day. Quite a few hotels have put together some fun packages and events for singletons. In fact, we're kind of jealous. These are waaaay more exciting than champagne and rose petals. Here's where you can let your single flag fly high and proud.

· Four Seasons Miami: The downtown Miami hotels is hosting a "Lonely Hearts Club group dinner on Valentine's Day. Served in a communal table in the Hotel’s new restaurant, Edge Steak and Bar, the prix fixe dinner will serve singletons Love Sucks (stacks of east coast seafood), Burnt Bitter and Bleu (bitter greens salad, burnt almond praline, blue cheese and balsamic), Home Alone TV Dinner (whole roast prime rib, truffle macaroni and cheese and vegetable succotash) and the Broken Hearted Napoleon with passion (less) fruit sauce. The cost is $65 per person but the hotel says in case a love match is made at the dinner, rooms are available starting at $469 per night. Call 305-358-3535 for reservations.

Pounce On These Leap Year Hotel Deals Now, Before They Leap Away

February 7, 2012 at 9:45 AM | by | Comment (1)

Yes, it's a Leap Year! An entire day added to the month, an entire extra day for some hotel-lovin'. And the hotels are pretty excited about it too! We've hunted around for the best Leap Year deals from San Antonio to New York to London. Unsurprisingly, several of them overlap with Valentine's Day festivities—but as they say, bargains make the heart grow fonder...

Grand Hyatt New York, fresh from its recent $130 million renovation, is feeling generous. So they're singling out people who are either turning 29 this year or who were born on a leap year. While the 29-year-olds actually make out with something cool (free appetizer or dessert at New York Central, pictured above), leap year babies (anyone born in 2008, 2004, 2000, 1996, etc), as usual, get the short end of the stick. That would be a "free" Dylan's Candy Bar cupcake...-shaped tin (not even an actual cupcake!) from the hotel's 24-hour convenience store, Market.

With a purchase of $9 or more. Seriously. These guys only celebrate their birthday once every four years. Can't we just give them a free cupcake and call it a day? Rates from $309.
