From Seat Cushions To Free Limo Rides, These Tennis Packages Have It All

In just eighteen days, the 2011 US Open Tournament barrels into Flushing, NY. Here's a look at which NYC hotels are serving up the best rates, tennis packages, and, of course, tennis swag.
TENNIS SWAG
Make it a double-night stay over in midtown's new-ish Sanctuary Hotel, whose US Open Tennis package includes an unlimited weekly Metrocard—not quite a free limo ride (see below), but convenient enough! Also lumped in with the $499 rate (or $249 per night) are a Serena Williams skin care bundle kit, a Rafael Nadal "Rafa" crew shirt, and a free room upgrade. Hopefully, Hank Freid's S.T.A.R. staff is up to par!

Gansevoort Hotels Now Offering 'Gans, Set, Match' Us Open Packages

The new Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel
UPDATE: Gansevoort Park is having some opening issues. Book the original Gansevoort instead.
Hotels are booking up fast for US Open tennis tournament and some might even be sold-out. In fact, The Westin Times Square, whose US Open package we wrote about last week, is already booked up from August 31-September 2 and again on September 4. If you want a room there, you better secure it now.
However, there are some hotels with wide availability--specifically at the original Gansevoort Hotel and its about-to-open sister Gansevoort Park Avenue.
Both hotels are offering a "Gans, Set, Match" package from August 30 to September 12 starting at $462 a night and which includes overnight accommodations, two Gansevoort caps, complimentary champagne and sliders at the rooftop pool, two seat cushions for the matches, two Lacoste polo shirts and unlimited Weekly Metro Cards to get you to and from the courts. You can also purchase tennis tickets through the Gansevoorts for an additional cost.

Heading to the US Open? Pick Up 'Tennis Take-Out' from the Market at Grand Hyatt

The US Open is just a week away and hotels are prepping for the onslaught of tennis fans. Many hotels are putting together US Open packages but wherever you stay (even if it's with a friend), you can always pick up some cute picnic baskets to take with you to the matches from The Grand Hyatt's new Market cafe at Grand Central Staion.
There are three options for the "Tennis Take-Out" packs starting with the Match Point Picnic at $20 which includes seasonal fruits, a choice of hot or cold sandwiches, mustard potato salad or southwestern bean salad, Cape Cod potato chips and either a Pepsi or Aquafina.

Westin Times Square and Jersey City Promise US Open Packages For Tennis Fans

The first round of the US Open kicks off on August 30 and Westin Hotels wants you to be there to catch of all the back and forth action.
The Starwood brand is the official sponsor of both the men's and women's tournament and where there is a sponsorship, there is a hotel package. However, the Westin only has two major properties in the NYC Metro area--Westin Times Square and Westin Jersey City. So your choices are a bit limited if you want your US Open experience to be Westinized.
Nevertheless, at the Westin Times Square they are offering a "Stay and Watch the Pros Play" package that includes a great rate at the hotel plus two metrocards so you can take the subway out to Arthur Ashe stadium in Queens. We couldn't get the package code SSPORT to work today but we noticed that room rates were about the same for the start of the tournament and for the finals--around $365 a night.

Cassa Hotel Still Serious About Opening in August

UPDATE: Looking to stay at Cassa on opening night? Travelzoo has rooms for just $229 a night. This includes breakfast and it's good for stays from Aug. 1-13. Stays from Aug. 14 to Sept. 10 are $20 more. Book by July 30.
It looks like all the new hotels in New York City are starting to fall in line and the Cassa Hotel and Residences is proving they are serious about their August 1 opening date by announcing a U.S. Open tennis package.
The "Take Me to the US Tennis Open" package is available from August 30-September 12 for $375 a night. It includes complimentary continental breakfast, Metrocards to use for your trip to Queens (the hotel is located right near the 7 subway line) and a copy of the US Open's official "Rules of Tennis" guide. Booking is easy--just visit cassahotelny.com and enter a two night minimum stay in the reservation column under the "Book Now." Then enter the promo code, USOPEN.
With introductory room rates starting at $279, we can't say this is a super steal or anything but we are comforted by Cassa's dedication to opening in August, especially after a long wait.

Melanie Oudin Not 'Booted Out' of Marriott But She is Shacking Up Elsewhere

Earlier this morning, we learned that the U.S. Open's star player Melanie Oudin was supposedly unable to extend her reservation at a Marriott Hotel after she unexpectedly advanced to the quarter-finals in the tournament.
Well, the rumor mill was burning up this morning about whether or not she was booted from the Marriott Marquis, whether or not she was offered a room at the Marriott East Side or whether or not she was safely ensconced in the Barclay Intercontinental. Now, a Marriott spokeswoman has clarified that Oudin--to the best of their knowledge--was not a guest at the Marriott Marquis. The official statement is here:
The New York Marriott Marquis was surprised to receive a media inquiry on Tuesday, September 8, claiming that the hotel had asked tennis player Melanie Oudin to check out of the hotel earlier this week because her stay had run out.
The New York Marriott Marquis has no knowledge of Ms. Oudin's presence in the hotel, nor was there any guest registered at the hotel under her name. It was never made known to the hotel by Ms. Oudin or her representatives if indeed she was a hotel guest.
We would have gladly extended Ms. Oudin's stay, at the prevailing room rate, had it been requested. We have reached out to Ms. Oudin's agent and would of course welcome her to the New York Marriott Marquis at any time.

US Open 'Savior' Melanie Oudin Booted From The Marriott

Update: We're hearing that Melanie may be back inside a Marriott hotel on the East Side. Developing....
American tennis player Melanie Oudin has brought some much-need young blood to the U.S. Open this year (she's only 17), advancing to the quarter-finals and being heralded by much of the New York press for making tennis exciting again.
But this U.S Open savior apparently can't get any respect from the Marriot Marquis Time Square Marriott East Side Hotel which booted her out of her room on Sunday because her reservation was up.

Jumeirah Essex House Celebrates The U.S. Open With The Honey Deuce

We've kicked off our Summer Cocktails series where we profile fun new summer drinks that hotels are making. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!
With the U.S. Open coming up, the fine peeps at Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park have got a consolation prize for all of us who won't make it courtside: we can enjoy the official U.S. Open Cocktail instead (who knew a sporting event had an official cocktail? We hope the players get one after every match).
Anyway, this official cocktail is the Honey Deuce, featuring Grey Goose vodka and Chambord, and of course some melon balls which definitely get us thinking about tennis, at least if we use our imagination. Essex House will be offering this cocktail in its South Gate restaurant from today through to the end of the U.S. Open on September 13.

Tennis Players Kick Off the US Open at The Empire Hotel

While we were totally preoccupied with the Olympics, other sporting events have been getting prepared in the background: like the US Open, which had its big Players' Party on Friday night at the Empire Hotel in New York.
While an awful lot of non-tennis-playing celebrities paraded around the Empire, a big slab of attention did go to the rightful stars: Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams both turned up in pretty eye-catching color that was kinda hard to miss.
Apparently the party was held on the Empire's pool and bar deck on the rooftop but we don't have any reports of tennis players being thrown in the pool. Pity.
