Melanie Oudin Not 'Booted Out' of Marriott But She is Shacking Up Elsewhere

Earlier this morning, we learned that the U.S. Open's star player Melanie Oudin was supposedly unable to extend her reservation at a Marriott Hotel after she unexpectedly advanced to the quarter-finals in the tournament.
Well, the rumor mill was burning up this morning about whether or not she was booted from the Marriott Marquis, whether or not she was offered a room at the Marriott East Side or whether or not she was safely ensconced in the Barclay Intercontinental. Now, a Marriott spokeswoman has clarified that Oudin--to the best of their knowledge--was not a guest at the Marriott Marquis. The official statement is here:
The New York Marriott Marquis was surprised to receive a media inquiry on Tuesday, September 8, claiming that the hotel had asked tennis player Melanie Oudin to check out of the hotel earlier this week because her stay had run out.
The New York Marriott Marquis has no knowledge of Ms. Oudin's presence in the hotel, nor was there any guest registered at the hotel under her name. It was never made known to the hotel by Ms. Oudin or her representatives if indeed she was a hotel guest.
We would have gladly extended Ms. Oudin's stay, at the prevailing room rate, had it been requested. We have reached out to Ms. Oudin's agent and would of course welcome her to the New York Marriott Marquis at any time.

US Open 'Savior' Melanie Oudin Booted From The Marriott

Update: We're hearing that Melanie may be back inside a Marriott hotel on the East Side. Developing....
American tennis player Melanie Oudin has brought some much-need young blood to the U.S. Open this year (she's only 17), advancing to the quarter-finals and being heralded by much of the New York press for making tennis exciting again.
But this U.S Open savior apparently can't get any respect from the Marriot Marquis Time Square Marriott East Side Hotel which booted her out of her room on Sunday because her reservation was up.

Jumeirah Essex House Celebrates The U.S. Open With The Honey Deuce

We've kicked off our Summer Cocktails series where we profile fun new summer drinks that hotels are making. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!
With the U.S. Open coming up, the fine peeps at Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park have got a consolation prize for all of us who won't make it courtside: we can enjoy the official U.S. Open Cocktail instead (who knew a sporting event had an official cocktail? We hope the players get one after every match).
Anyway, this official cocktail is the Honey Deuce, featuring Grey Goose vodka and Chambord, and of course some melon balls which definitely get us thinking about tennis, at least if we use our imagination. Essex House will be offering this cocktail in its South Gate restaurant from today through to the end of the U.S. Open on September 13.

Tennis Players Kick Off the US Open at The Empire Hotel

While we were totally preoccupied with the Olympics, other sporting events have been getting prepared in the background: like the US Open, which had its big Players' Party on Friday night at the Empire Hotel in New York.
While an awful lot of non-tennis-playing celebrities paraded around the Empire, a big slab of attention did go to the rightful stars: Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams both turned up in pretty eye-catching color that was kinda hard to miss.
Apparently the party was held on the Empire's pool and bar deck on the rooftop but we don't have any reports of tennis players being thrown in the pool. Pity.
