Win Tickets to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (And a Night at The Affinia)

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 371 Seventh Avenue [map], New York, NY, United States, 10001
November 17, 2009 at 11:41 AM | by MsRebecca | 0 Comments

Another day, another Twitter hotel contest. But this is one that could score you major brownie points with the kids. Tomorrow, Affinia Hotels launches a Twitter promotion where the prize is exclusive access to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parde—and an overnight stay at the Affinia Manhattan on Thanksgiving night.

While a free night in a NYC hotel on a holiday is nothing to scoff at, the seating for the parade is the big deal here. Tickets are not available to the general public—seating is restricted to the folks of NBC, corporate sponsors, Macy’s execs, politicians, and charitable organizations. So win these babies and you’ll be hobnobbing it up, away from the riff-raff with their fold-up chairs.

Where is Finn Hudson Staying in New York?

November 3, 2009 at 5:46 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

Can anyone guess the hotel where Finn Hudson aka Corey Monteith from Glee was Twitpic-ing from recently during the GLEE press trip through NYC. He writes:

sitting on the roof of my hotel in NYC... Love this city...

It looks like Midtown to us but he just tweeted that he was at Columbus Circle. Could he be at Six Columbus or are they staying at the Empire Hotel? Either way, your guesses have to be a hotel with a rooftop. Corey also mentioned that he went running through Central Park so it has to be a hotel close to there as well. And no, we have no idea which hotel it is. Put Your Guesses in Comments Below.

More of when celebrities and hotels collide on Twitter:

· Lindsay Lohan's BFF/stylist/paid sycophant is an a-hole to hotel operators. [@PAufdenkamp]
· Martha Stewart apparently did H'ween at the Waldorf [@MarthaStewart]
· Even Lauren Conrad has to wait for the hotel valet [@LaurenConrad]
· Aubrey O'Day is a serial Tweeter from Planet Hollywood in Vegas (She's in PeepShow there) [@AubreyODay]
· Britney Rides V Australia! Ok, not hotel news but we're still excited. [@BritneySpears]

Lindsay Lohan Loves The Plaza Athenée But Not as Much as Herself

The Terrace Eiffel Suites at The Plaza Athenée.

Nothing Lindsay Lohan ever tweets about really makes sense, except when she's trying to promote her 6126 leggings line, her Sevin Nyne spray tan lotion and her work for the fashion house of Emanuel Ungaro and even those tweets aren't all that well-crafted. The same goes for her tweets about hotels too. The other day she tweeted:

I love Emanuel Ungaro and I miss Paris and the Plaza Athenée

This was followed by a picture link which we eagerly clicked because we thought it would be a pic of her room at the luxury hotel but alas, it was just a pic of her attempting to look seductive. Boo.

Fortunately, we still have these killer views that a tipster sent us last month that we can drool over.

P. Diddy Has a Killer View From The Hotel Fasano; Killer Moves Not So Much

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: Av. Viera Souto 80, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 22420-000

P. Diddy is definitely moving into "Old Man in the Club" territory but there is something charming about how desperate he is to cling onto his "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" days. PopWrap has a photo of P. Diddy trying to break it down on his balcony at The Hotel Fasano in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which is quite scary (click at your own caution) but P. Diddy also Twitpic'd the view from his hotel, which is something we are far more interested in.

We're guessing Diddy was shacked up in the hotel's deluxe suite which boats a king bed that is positioned to look out over the beach. While we wouldn't blame him for picking the best suite in the house, could he see all those beautiful bootys from way up there?

Since he tweeted this precious gem that is sure to be oft-quoted in high school yearbooks and listed in books of inspirational quotes for centuries to come, we know how important Brazilian bootys are to him:

BRAZIL!!!!! Ass! Ass! Ass! Phat round beautiful ASSES!!!!! Everywhere! Its a ASS suniami!!!!!!!! I think I like it here!!! Lol

Like we said, Old Guy in the Club.

Follow HotelChatter on Twitter--we promise not to Tweet about asses!

How To Get Roosevelt-Era Rates at NYC's Roosevelt Hotel

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 45 East 45th Street [map], New York, NY , United States, 10017
October 26, 2009 at 9:53 AM | by MsRebecca | 0 Comments

It wasn’t all that long ago that we were telling you about the New York Roosevelt Hotel’s penchant for Twitter contests—and whaddyaknow? They’re at it again. This time the historic hotel goes back to the Web 2.0 future to celebrate Teddy Roosevelt’s birthday, which, as history nerds know, is tomorrow, October 27.

The contest begins at 2:00 p.m. EST tomorrow, when the Roosevelt will post a trivia question about the nation’s 26th president on their Twitter page. The first five respondents to tweet the right answer will receive a special rate at the hotel of $18.58 (the year Roosevelt was born). Then, at 2:30 p.m., there’ll be another trivia question to ponder—with the first five people answering correctly snagging a room rate of $26.00 (in honor of Teddy being the 26th president).

Gaylord Hotels May Need To Invest in Plug Panels

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 2800 Opryland Dr [map], Nashville, TN, United States, 37214
October 20, 2009 at 5:29 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We have a love-hate relationship with Twitter. The constant RT-ing, the abuse of hash tags, the "Top That!" and "First!" mentality of Twitterers and their cringe-inducing overshares have us threatening to quit Twitter on a daily basis. But today, we love Twitter again. That's because Twitterer DShelleny tweeted about his woes with too many gadgets and not enough outlets in his room at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. He writes and TwitPics the frustration saying:

Hey @gaylordhotels..great hotel, here's a quick suggestion for you though... http://twitpic.com/m9u4o

That's his TwitPic above. Interestingly, @GaylordHotels (which has four Gaylord Hotels in the U.S.) has 475 followers but absolutely zero tweets. So we're guessing they didn't see DShelleny's @reply yet. Maybe now they have.

Hotel Murano Rewards Twitter Followers With Discounts and Free WiFi

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1320 Broadway Plaza [map], Tacoma, WA, United States, 98402
October 12, 2009 at 5:03 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 0 Comments

Any hotel that links directly to TripAdvisor from their homepage has a lot of gall. Guest ratings can sometimes make or break a hotel's reputation, but if service is up to snuff and they know it, then no harm done.

Not only does Tacoma's Hotel Murano include said link on their website (with predictably positive ratings, save for a couple service stumbles), but they've gone the Twitter route (@hotel_murano) to stay connected with potential customers. While you won't find gossipy tweets about what goes on behind the concierge desk, you will find need-to-know information about insider deals, like this recent post advertising $79 rates (marked down from $99) plus free Wi-Fi for bookings from October 15-18. You'll have to make your reservation by the 15th to get the discount, so commence rapid fire clicking now.

Elle's Fashionisto Names The Covent Garden in London His Favorite Hotel

We like to talk about Fashion Hotels quite a bit, naming everything from the Top 3 Milan Fashion Week hotels to where Chanel puts up their guests in Venice. But not often do we actually get to hear about the best fashion hotels from the horse's mouth, but of course Twitter comes through.

While Fashion Week season ends, one of the newest Twitter celebs has earned a loyal following thanks to his devotion to tweeting live from the front rows and the poshest parties; it's the Creative Director of Elle magazine, Joe Zee. You've seen him on Stylista and now on The City, but the man is more than just a powerful contact; he's a travel pro, with no qualms about naming his favorite hotel in London.

Hotels That Charge for WiFi Are Probably On Famous Writer's Blacklist

October 5, 2009 at 5:18 PM | by juliana | 4 Comments

Earlier today, New Yorker writer and novelist Susan Orlean re-tweeted a very profound statement made by another Twitterer, Dadigan with a resounding "YES!":

Shouldn't they've amended the constitution to make free wifi a basic human right? I boycott hotels that charge for wifi."

Hmm...to all the hotels out there currently charging for WiFi, just let that sink in for a moment. You loved The Orchid Thief and the movie "Adaptation" didn't you? Now just think about how Susan Orlean probably won't be staying at your hotel. Just think about that. Think a little longer...a little longer...ok, that will do for now.

Travel writer and Twitterer David Farley also pointed out via another Twitterer (this Twitter thing is crazy, no?) that 100 years ago, hotels charged for hot water. But of course, that's now free. Hopefully, hotels will be quick to pick up on this free WiFi fad soon.

The Soon-To-Open Crescent San Fran Now Has Rooms Starting at $105

Where: 417 Stockton Street [map], San Francisco, CA, United States, 94108
October 5, 2009 at 11:51 AM | by Heidi Atwal | 0 Comments

The countdown to the opening of San Francisco's Crescent Hotel is on, with its official unveiling set for October 21st. Hotelier Gregory Peck staked a claim on prime Union Square real estate (the former Allison hotel), gutting the property and giving it a 'classic San Francisco with a modern twist' look.

If you left your heart in San Francisco, then you'll be happy to hear about site-specific touches that we previously reported on, including iPod playlists crafted by local DJs, a locally-focused wine program to enjoy in room, and library with "West Coast-centric" reading material.

W Barcelona Still Pretty, But Needs Serious Work on The Vibe

Go To The Hotel's Web

October 5, 2009 at 9:33 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Oh dears. We really hate to say this, but could it be that with all the hype around W Barcelona and its foxy building, they forgot to work on the foxy W vibe?

Barcelona resident Pulso BCN alerted us to the fact that there could be a problem with his comment here. He stopped by on Thursday, which should have been banging, seeing as it was the first night, but although it had a nice-looking pool, he wasn’t feeling it. “Maybe the W hipness is in crates stuck in Spanish customs,” he reckons. On his Twitter feed he went further: ”No glam opening, no edgy people, just a bunch of staffers running around trying to find a spot.”. Oopsie…
