With the Jets still in contention to go-all-the-way, we admit it: we've thought about looking for flights to and hotels in Pittsburgh and Dallas. But you know what's a hell of a lot more fun than thinking about a hotel room in Dallas? Watching the Super Bowl from an oceanview hotel room in Turks & Caicos.

The Gansevoort Turks & Caicos gets it. They're getting a 16-foot big-screen TV ready to set up on Grace Bay Beach, and finalizing plans for a sand-in-your-toes tailgate party complete with drinks specials and wings.

COMO Shambala Spa's Indian Head Massage Turned Us Into A Noodle

August 20, 2010 at 8:56 AM | by | Comments (0)

Since everyone else seems to be on vacation and we're not, we're doing the next best thing and reminiscing about the break we had in July—specifically, we're reliving the amazing Indian Head Massage we had at Parrot Cay's COMO Shambala Spa.

Frankly, it was hard to tear ourselves away from our terrace with the Killer View, but when we finally did stroll over to the spa, we were not disappointed.

From the moment you step into the lobby (pictured above), your brain registers that you're going to have to shut off now, thank you very much. But it's in no way stuffy, claustrophobic or sceney, the way many spas can be. The quiet but friendly service of the resort extends to the spa, and the new two-story building overlooking the island's wetlands is as gorgeous as everything else here.

What Do You Do When It Rains In Paradise?

July 14, 2010 at 10:41 AM | by | Comments (0)

Summer in the Caribbean. Every day's foreceast was the same: hot with a chance of thunderstorms. Of the four days we spent at Parrot Cay in Turks & Caicos, it rained just a little on three and a lot on the fourth.

We were lucky to enjoy gorgeous sunny mornings, and dramatic overcast skies that still let us swim at the beach and in the pool. Storms blew over quickly, and we were able to take cover under our beach umbrellas, at the poolside bar (bonus: rum punch and endless UB40!), or on our own balcony, where the view never got old.

Of course, at a resort as luxurious as this, there is always something to do while the tropics do their thing outside. Here are just some of the activities we dabbled during the daily downpours.

Perch Here For A Killer View Of The Beach at Parrot Cay

July 13, 2010 at 10:49 AM | by | Comments (0)

You may know Parrot Cay, a COMO Shambala Resort in Turks and Caicos, from its star-studded guests and residents including Donna Karan and Bruce Willis, or maybe you've heard of its impeccable reputation for yoga retreats and classes.

We had all good intentions of bending ourselves into a pretzel at one such class while at Parrot Cay over the weekend, but with this Killer View, can you blame us for not being able to haul our butts off the balcony to the yoga pavilion?

Be Lazy and Win A Vacation, Where You Can Be Lazy Again

October 12, 2009 at 9:08 AM | by | Comments (0)

It's not often we get rewarded for being lazy but in the Turks and Caicos at the Ocean Club and Ocean Club West resorts (they're neighbors), you could win a holiday if you can prove you're the lazy kind.

After becoming a Facebook fan of the Ocean Club Resorts you can enter their competition by posting a photo of "your ideal lazy beach day". Get your photo up by 10pm EST on November 4 and you have a chance to win a three-night stay on the Turks and Caicos for two, which you would be able to use between May and December next year.

The theory behind this "lazy" contest is that at the Ocean Club Resorts, one of the most popular activities is to "do nothing at all", and it's certainly a beautiful place to choose to do nothing. If you don't win the contest and have to pay to get there, nightly rates start at $179 a night for a studio suite in the off-season, with big price hikes for the popular winter season or for Christmas and New Year.

The barrage of hotel deals we've been coming across lately all remind us of one cold, hard fact: Summer is quickly coming to an end. That's bad news for fireworks and outdoor concerts, but very good news for prospective travelers. Capitalizing on the "last summer weekend" rush, many resorts and hotels are offering Labor Day deals that are giving us just the push we need to pack our bags and hop on a plane. Destination this time around: Parrot Cay & COMO Shambhala Retreat in Turks and Caicos.

You'll Be Up in the Gym Working On Your (Pilates) Fitness at Parrot Cay

Until contemporary Pilates teacher to the stars, Mari Winsor recently kicked our ass in a private Malibu Pilates session at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, we really liked this "lets get moving, sculpt and lose weight" approach to exercise. But, there’s something kinda humbling (okay, pathetic) about getting your butt kicked by someone as least two decades your senior. Ouch.

Anyway, instead of going balls to the wall for a one hour, pain inducing power session, we’re way more inclined to take a retreat approach to Pilates, which is why we’re excited about Parrot Cay’s “Strength Without Struggle” 6-day Pilates retreat scheduled for November 8-14, 2009. It's way out of our personal budget, but if you've got the dough, it seems like a good, all-about-me-time, deal.

Get Your 'Downward Dog' On With COMO Hotels' Yoga Retreats

April 22, 2009 at 9:26 AM | by | Comments (0)

If you want a vacation that's good for your body and soul (and probably doesn't involve too many fancy cocktails), the yoga packages that the COMO Hotels are putting on might be the thing. With four more week-long retreats scheduled for 2009, it's just a matter of picking which corner of the world you want to jet to in order to practice yoga for five hours a day — with experts, of course, in a romantically relaxing setting.

The exact details of the yoga retreats depend on which destination you choose, but they all include six nights' accommodation, the yoga training, various meals and airport transfers, plus several include some cultural excursions as well. You can choose from the Parrot Cay on Turks and Caicos (an October course), Uma Paro in Bhutan (July 12-18) or COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali (mid-December).

Package prices range from $3,515 in Bali to $5, 681 at Parrot Cay. And while the yoga idea does sound like a great getaway vacation, we are a little concerned that there may be a bit too much emphasis on the whole health thing — they even want you to eat healthy organic food the whole time. That's fine for some, but we still think a proper beachside vacation should include a few indulgences.

Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly Hide Out at the Nikki Beach Resort

We're not quite sure how Derek Jeteris still pulling young ladies these days. Remember when he used to date Mariah? Isn't it about time he settled down and got married? Also, what do these ladies see in him? Don't think we forgot, Jessica Biel, that at one point you were frolicking with #2 before you hooked it with JT.

Whatever the allure he has (we suspect Drakar Noir) Jeter has moved onto former Mayercraft victim and Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly and the duo were spotted "gorging on fresh seafood" at the Nikki Beach Resort in Turks & Caicos.

Hit the website for coming-soon The Tanai resort on Turks and Caicos and you'll hear that chilly haunting music that really seems to be doing the rounds of resort websites at the moment.

The only reason we can live with it is that the photos of the region are pretty spectacular and have definitely piqued our interest in The Tanai, even though it's not due to open until 2010. They just broke ground to start construction last week.
