The Tides in Mexico Turn In Your Favor With Second Room Free

Where: Mexico
May 15, 2009 at 3:28 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

The Tides Zihuantanejo

More hotel deals are afloat in Mexico, post-Swine Flu hysteria. Both The Tides Riviera Maya and Tides Zihuatanejo are offering guests who purchase one room/villa or suite, a second night room free of charge all this Summer.

Rates at the Tides Riviera Maya begin at $585 for a luxury villa while superior rooms for The Tides Zihuatanejo begin at $450 this month and at $355 from June to September.

The offer is pretty binding though as you must pay in full at time of confirmation and it's completely non-refundable or changeable and cannot be combined with any offers at the hotels.

The Tides Riviera Maya and Zihuatanejo Are Giving Airfare Credits

Where: Mexico
December 19, 2008 at 4:50 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

The Tides Zihuantanejo

We aren't the biggest fans of Mexico but if there were ever a time for us to seriously considering a trip south of the border it would be now. Now that the Tides Riviera Maya and the Tides Zihuatanejo are offering discounts in the form of airfare credits for their Fly Free promotion. Guests can get airfare credits starting at $500 and up to $1,500 a person.

Here's how it works, from the hotel:

Guest buys ticket in advance and then they show ticket to front desk and we will adjust the amount off of the room folio. Black-out dates apply, subject to availability at time of request.

The offer does not apply to groups and may not be combined with other offers. Also, the more you spend at the hotel the higher your airfare credit. But still the discounts look pretty good to us. Good enough to book and brave Mexico.

Conde Nast Readers' Choice Awards :: Tides Riviera Maya and One & Only Win Best Mexican Resort

October 16, 2008 at 11:43 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

UPDATE: We got the full details from Jaunted and it turns out One & Only tied with The Tides (heh) for Best Mexican Resort. One & Only also snapped up the Best Atlantic resort category as well. Not quite an Amy Winehouse stash of awards but a respectable Britney Spears MTV Music Awards showing perhaps.

Last night was the Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards and our bro Jaunted did an excellent job twittering the whole awards show. Seriously, he twittered like every major award. Check it out.

Two things of note for hotel geeks: The Tides Riviera Maya won Best Mexican Resort with Kor Hotels Nick Clayton stepping up to accept the award. Additionally, One & Only Resorts, those luxe resorts in lush locales, won a plethora of awards or as Jaunted says:

One&only is the Amy Winehouse of CNT awards. Multiple wins.

We're not quite sure what wins those are but as soon as we find out, we'll bring 'em to you straight away.

Kor Partners With Abu Dhabi Firm To Launch Aggressive Global Expansion

September 23, 2008 at 2:08 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

We mentioned briefly a few weeks ago that Kor Hotels -- who own the Viceroy and the Tides brands -- have sold 50% of the company to Mubadala Development Company, a business development and investment firm headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

We received confirmation of the partnership today. Word from the official press release:

Kor will increase its presence in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia under the partnership, with premier business and resort developments planned to open in Abu Dhabi by 2012. Already a rising presence in several sought-after locations, Kor will soon expand its distinct collection with the unveiling of its newest hotels and resorts, Viceroy Anguilla and Viceroy Miami.

Now that they've got Miami covered already, the next logical step in a hotel chain's expansion these days is the Middle East -- and so off they go.

Tides Resort Coming to St Lucia in 2010

Where: Forbidden Beach, Val des Pitons, Soufriere, Saint Lucia
September 8, 2008 at 9:40 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

One door closes, another door opens: the Jalousie Plantation is going to close up in early summer 2009, but hold your breath for a year and it will reemerge as The Tides Sugar Beach in 2010. It sounds like it could be worth the wait, too.

The setting for this resort is in the Valley of the Pitons, a World Heritage listed site thanks to its many acres of rainforest and perfect white beaches. The developers will spend over $100 million on the renovation including setting up a spa complex and restaurants with locally grown food to give it that little sustainable touch.

This the first "Tides" resort in the Caribbean, but they're already operating in Mexico and Florida with the common theme of beautiful beaches. No word on room rates yet but unfortunately we remember stinging prices like the $8,000 week at the Tides Riviera Maya.

Do you love Mexico? Do you love Yoga? Then maybe you should consider signing up for the Yoga Retreat series at the Tides Zihuatanejo which is taking place from October 3-7, 2008. (Or if you can't stand yoga and its yoginis, then you may want to hit up the resort another week.)

The retreat is being led by celebrity instructor Tom Morley, one of LA's hottest yoga instructors who has taught such celebs like Reese Witherspoon and Helen Hunt.

For over 10 years, Morley has redefined the traditional approach to yoga by adapting the practice to individual preferences. Morley draws from a range of yoga styles (such as vinyasa and yin), breathing exercises, meditation, partner yoga and dance to bring a vibrant sense of joy, humor and ease to each session.

Now he's taking his teachings to Playa la Ropa beach at the Tides Zihuatanejo.

A curious HotelChatter reader is pondering a stay at the Tides Zihuatanejo for his honeymoon and was interested to know which suite would be the best to book: the Lagoon suite or the Beach suite? Here are his questions:

Looking to do a honeymoon at the tides in Zihuatanejo in August of this year and I have a couple of questions: How does the beach suite compare the lagoon suite? Are there typically small children around? Also, is there some nightlife outside of hotel?

Snapshot :: The Tides South Beach is Finally Finished

The Tides South Beach has finally completed its year-long renovation, including its long-awaited pool area and super awesome Hotel Maven Jochenwb dropped in these pics from Suite 701 and other parts of the hotel into the HotelChatter Flickr Pool.

The hotel looks amazing. Our favorite shots are of the pool and the wild lobby. Oh yeah, and the suite is pretty sexy too.

Now is great time to stay at the Tides because room rates (and demand) have dropped to a reasonable off-season price. Which means for $395 a night you can get a studio suite facing the Atlantic and Ocean Drive. Holla'! We're going to Miami!

Is Your Relationship Worth the $8,000 for a Couples Retreat at the Tides Riviera Maya?

Your significant other is going to be maaaaadddd if you say no to this retreat.

Like most couples chained to each for more than a decade, our relationship could stand a tune-up. And so can we. And while a romantic and spiritually enlightening package called The Art of Re-Connecting: A Couple's Retreat at the The Tides Riviera Maya sounds dreamy, it'll remain that way for us. A dream.

It is totally worth it if you and your special someone have an extra $7,460 laying around the house. It's on the Mayan Riviera amidst tropical forests and pearly-white beaches, first of all. With a luxurious six-night stay at an exclusive resort, number two. And it comes complete with your own private 1,000 sq. ft. palapos (translation: a kick-ass villa).

The Tides South Beach Still Lacks a Pool But Makes Up For It With This Killer View

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1220 Ocean Dr [map], Miami Beach, FL, United States, 33139
April 8, 2008 at 3:21 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

The renovations at the Tides South Beach have been going on for what seems like forever but we got a snapshot of the view from Room 702 and we can't help but stare at it all day long.

Seriously, if we stop posting for the rest of the afternoon on HotelChatter it's probably because we have a severe case of Cubicle Dreamin'.

While the hotel is nearing the completion of a $14 million restoration (finally), the pool is still not opened. That's expected to happen by May 1st. We'll see. First it was to be done in January and then in March. In the meantime, you can use the pool at the neighboring Hotel Victor or hello! The beach!

[Thanks CF!]

The Tides South Beach: No Pool Yet But You Can Use The Hotel Victor's

The Tides South Beach still hasn't opened their pool area and won't do so until March 15th which is sad because high season is flying by!

A tipster sent in these renovation shots of the back of the hotel which we admit is never a flattering angle. Still the hotel's website does its best to be honest:

We recently debuted our first and most significant phase of a $14 million restoration effort. The pool will not be available until March 15, 2008 and you might experience varying levels of construction noise. We sincerely apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Note: This pool was expected to be done in January.

Fortunately it seems prices have come down. We found rooms for Feb. 25-28th at $399 a night for an oceanfront studio suite. Granted those are weeknights and the following weekend those rooms and those rates weren't available.

So far it doesn't look like the reviews have suffered on TripAdvisor but a few of them seem highly suspicious to us. The only recent one we trusted was the one which mentioned that the hotel has partnered with neighboring Hotel Victor for their pool.

Thus, we wanna know: Has anyone stayed at the Tides in 2008? If so, tell us how it went.

Sweet Suites: The Presidential Suite at the Tides Zihuatanejo

Go To The Hotel's Web

January 7, 2008 at 3:56 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Add this to both the Sweet Suites category, our growing list of cool Hotel Infinity Pools and our Best Hotel Balconies stories.

This is a shot of the Presidential suite at The Tides Zihuatanejo which has a 435-sq.ft. terrace with its own private infinity pool that overlooks the ocean thus offering up 180-degree views of Zihuatanejo Bay. Overall the suite encompasses 1,465-sq.ft. and has two bedrooms and two baths. More on the suite from the Tides website:

An expansive open-air living area is intricately tiled with marble and inset with natural pebbles and features an over-sized wicker daybed, two comfortable seating areas, a complete wet-bar and a gorgeous private infinity pool with panoramic views of the bay.

Of course, a private infinity pool comes at Forbes 500 prices. The Presidential suite costs $1,150 in the low season to around $1,700 in the high season.

But don't give up hope yet. All suites at the Tides come with their own private infinity pools. The lagoon suite is the smallest of the bunch ranging from 700 to 800-sq.ft. High season prices start at $875 a night and include a private terrace with outdoor infinity pool (a teeny one), a separate sitting area and lagoon views. When we hit it big, we're coming here...in the low season of course.
