...Or New York. Connecticut, too!

Via MSNBC, we find out that The Algonquin Hotel in Times Square is offering a "Broadway Night Out" special, specifically for residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who might be staying in for the sake of saving money (after losing their high-paying Wall Street jobs, perhaps?)

The deal, launched "in the midst of turbulent times" is available all year (is The Algonquin privy to some devastating financial forecast the rest of us aren't?) and includes 20-percent off room rates, a free upgrade, breakfast for two, and the choice of free parking or a $25 food and beverage credit at the hotel's Round Table Room restaurant. For an additional fee, the deal also includes help securing tickets to a Broadway show, opera, sport game, or other events throughout the city.

To snag the deal, all you need to do is present a valid New York, New Jersey or Connecticut driver's license.

What Awaits You At The Wyndham Garden Hotel in Chelsea?

Wyndham Garden Hotel in Chelsea just opened a few months ago and the good news is that the room rates are holding steady below $200 a night. However, the valiant efforts of the assistant GM might not be enough to overcome the attitude of the hotel's staff.

"For $189/night in midtown it's a good buy," said one reviewer on TripAdvisor. "Very modern and clean," said another. Then there's the "the staff could have been a bit more friendly," comments, including an account of how maid service allegedly told a guest he could make his own damn bed. (Curse word ours.)

Each review—the bad and the good—received a polite "management response" from Carlton Yee, identified as the assistant general manager at the hotel, encouraging everyone to come back again soon.

And with the hotel's latest "Weekender" deal, it might be an invitation worth accepting. On Friday through Sunday night stays through April 26, book a room at the Wyndham Garden Chelsea and have your choice of 50-percent off a second consecutive night or half off an additional room on the same night. Rates start $189 per night so this is a good deal for Manhattan. And if you get a little 'tude from the staff, now you know to go directly to Carlton Yee for any complaints.

Which Hotelier Is Making A NYC Theater District Debut?

July 9, 2008 at 2:30 PM | by jennm | 3 Comments

Scene: A small New York apartment filled with stacks of hotel brochures. A hermit-like hotel maven is sifting through them for some news to report, when there is a knock on the door.

HotelChatter: Who's there?
Unknown man: [Whispering] It's Tishman Realty. We thought you should know we're developing a 610-room luxury hotel on 44th Street and Eighth Avenue, as well as some lower-income apartment housing with two floors of studio space reserved for actors and theater types.
HotelChatter: [Warily opens door slightly] Yes. I read about that in The New York Times. We're intrigued. What's the hotel?
Unknown man: I can't tell you that.
