The Today Show Staycations at The Sagamore
Blah, blah, blah the economy's bad, people shouldn't be taking lavish vacations, etc, etc, etc. And the Today Show, the many-hours-long show that airs when the breadwinners are usually away at work, is smartly promoting summer vacay-ness on a budget. They broadcasted today from The historic Sagamore, presenting the Lake George, NY area as "one of the four top vacation destinations in the nation."
Today marks the first in a four-day series called "Today Takes a Vacation," and we'll be keeping you up to date if we see any more hot hotels. For the time being, you can bounce on over to the Today Show site to see what you probably missed while you were at work Meredith Viera and Ann Curry shot live segments and aired it with footage shot during their vacay over the past week.
Rates at the Sagamore are starting at $299 during the week of July 27 through August 3, 2009 as part of a Today Show special, you can score 25% off all accommodations. The discount is valid for dates through the rest of the year, as long as you book this week. Oh, and breakfast is included.

'The Today Show' is Throwing a Wedding at The Plaza
You know how every year The Today Show picks a lucky couple and throws them a wedding? Well, you should they've been doing it for ten years now. And in '09, on the official tenth anniversary of "Today Throws a Wedding," four couples will go through a series of weekly challenges for a chance to win you guessed it a wedding at The Plaza. It's like Bride Wars: The Remix.
The grand Plaza wedding thrown for the couple wins the whole competition goes down on July 15th live on show, and the reception will be broadcast from The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. And, that day, the executive chef of the Plaza will also be unveiling "a new signature drink" and will be showcasing selections from the Ballroom’s 100-mile menu.
Sounds like a pretty kickass deal for the lucky couple, except, you know, that America gets to vote on their rings, the dress, the tux, the attendants’ attire, the cake, and where they're going for the honeymoon. And America has been, er, "misguided" before do we have to remind you of a little American Idol called Taylor Hicks? Oh, right, we do.
