Last week, we took a peek at The Chatwal New York's Stanford White Studio and today we head west along 44th Street to the also-still-pretty-new InterContinental Times Square to daydream about swanning about in the Presidential Suite. After seeing this shot of the master bath's freestanding tub, we think we can finally accept the peekaboo bathing trend. If only we had the $15,000 we'd need to book this 4-bedroom suite in all its glory ...

Now we've shown you how pretty those pricey rooms at The Chatwal New York are, it's time to talk suites. And not just any old suites. This here is the Stanford White Studio.

It may look like more of a parlor or library or the setting of a real-life game of "Clue" but the suite can also be booked as a guest suite or as a parlor addition to a series of guest rooms. But you may be wondering, who is Stanford White. Allow us to give you a little history lesson.

Summer may be dwindling but you know what's still hot, hot, hot—other than the temperature? The New York Hotel Scene! Today is the big day for The James New York, which finally opens in Manhattan after building a solid fan base in Chicago.

It's hard to believe that just a year ago we were still calling this project the Grand Street Hotel and wondering what the controversial building had in store for us.

The Lambs Club At The Chatwal Is Gettin' Cookin'

You've seen inside the rooms at The Chatwal New York. Now, are you getting a little hungry? We haven't sampled chef Geoffrey Zakarian's menu for The Lambs Club yet, but we did get a sneak peek at the red-decadent dining room and its accompanying lobby and mezzanine bars. And? If the food is as rich as these rooms look, we're going to have to watch our cholesterol levels.

Take a spin through our gallery of the restaurant and bars and then read on for a preview of what's going on in the kitchen ...

Apologies, the video is a little shaky at the start but we promise it's worth it.

Between its ongoing construction delays and its yo-yoing high room rates, we've had a lot to say about The Chatwal New York. Now, after our first visit to the hotel since it was still a work-in-progress, we can bring you pictures to back up all those words.

Our first impression when we walked into the Deco-decadent lobby and strolled the ocean-liner-like hallways was: we forgot to wear our slinky silk gown and flapper bob. We're huge fans of '20s decor and The Chatwal has totally aced this.

Drinking At W New York Downtown's Living Room Terrace

Now you've seen the rooms (again), it's time to check out the public spaces of the W New York Downtown, including the space-station-like lobby, BLT Bar & Grill, and the Living Room Bar & Terrace.

You'll have to excuse us for not actually settling in at BLT for a burger or steak—we had dinner plans during our stay and when we saw that a bagel with cream cheese and lox would cost $18 the next morning, we bailed on our plan to have breakfast there. (Also: apart from the music that made us feel like we should be in a South Beach hotel lobby, the restaurant was super quiet.)

Inside The W New York Downtown

We were impressed it opened ahead of schedule, and then chuckled at our hotel spy Myra Ellen’s take on its love for red neon and wordiness. Yes, we’re talking about the W New York Downtown, where we checked in over the weekend for yet another look-see, this time from the non-business-traveler angle.

So, are the tourists going to like it down here? Sure, if they’re the kind of tourists who like drinking with a FiDi crowd, and views of Ground Zero construction ...

Check-In: While the entrance is on the ground level, next door to BLT Bar & Grill, the lobby is on level 5, however there are W doormen to greet you and take you up there, helpfully explaining the lay of the land before you hit the check-in desk.

Gansevoort Park Ave Is Ready To Open, If Only The City Would Say Go

UPDATE: The Gansevoort is working hard with the city to get this matter straightened out. We've decided to leave this alone until we hear of actual guests spending the night.

After our sneak peek at the new Gansevoort Park Avenue hotel (here, too), we're dying to get inside and see the hotel in action. But, you see, most of New York City is on vacation right now—including the one person at the City's Department of Buildings who can issue the hotel the paperwork it needs to open its doors.

The Gansevoort Hotel Group's Michael Achenbaum assures us that the hotel is ready for its big moment, and he's working overtime to get the hotel open today. (It involves obtaining an up-to-date TCO—Temporary Certificate of Occupancy.)

Well, well. Here we are in what's meant to be one of the quietest weeks of the year for most businesses—but not for W New York Downtown! The hotel has sneakily opened its doors a week early (Well, technically it's still about eight months late but never mind.) The official opening is still next week—August 16—but the hotel was up and running and taking reservations from last night.

Yes, we're as surprised as you, but perhaps the early opening of BLT Bar & Grill should have been a hint of what was to come?

Gansevoort Park's Bars & Restaurant Are All About The Ladies

Ready for even more Gansevoort Park Avenue? Of course you are! We've already shown you the rooms and the rooftop pool and lounge areas--now we bring you some more deets on Plunge as well as Asellina, the hotel's ground-floor restaurant which is scheduled to open in October.

This photo is the money shot of Plunge—it's the main bar up on the 18th floor, with attention-grabbing artwork by Deborah Anderson, who is also responsible for the other sexy ladies you see elsewhere on the hotel's walls and tables. (And in case you were wondering, that's not two women kissing. It's a mirror image.)

All told, the many rooms and decks and bar areas upstairs at Plunge can hold a total of 1,224 people. And that's not including what's downstairs ...

New York, are you ready to be taken by storm? Ready or not, our epic, long wait for the opening of The Chatwal New York is now over. The hotel opened its doors last night and we're still in a state of disbelief.

We wish we could speed ahead and get to the part where we know which A-list celebs and visiting dignitaries book the Barrymore Suite and how it feels to drop into that basement lap pool... but for now, all we can do is tip our hat and say welcome to the New York hotel scene, Chatwal.
