As a city with its fair share of grand dame hotels, Chicago does not disappoint on offering some of the best afternoon tea services.

From  $19 for a contemporary take at the Café des Architectes in the Sofitel to $27 for true English tradition in the Ritz Carlton's Greenhouse,  Chicago's hotel teas run the gamut of price and style.

But above all of the other options stands the Afternoon Tea Service at the Lobby Lounge in The Peninsula, which successfully combines tradition with indulgence for a hefty $36 per person (which beats the $600 nightly room rates).

We finally made the leap recently to hit up The Peninsula for just this, and sat down to a table of Wedgwood China, at the window overlooking the hotel's sun terrace on top of Tiffany & Co on Michigan Avenue.
