Elephant Treks at Award-Winning Sarojin

After opening up not long after the 2005 tsunami, Phuket's The Sarojin has rocketed to the top of the TripAdvisor charts as the number one luxury spot to stay in the area. It's also won prizes as Asia's Leading Boutique Hotel and as the World Luxury Romantic Hotel.

Many of its 56 rooms have their own plunge pool; they also have stylish timber floors, king-size beds, couples' baths and free Wifi. The resort's motto is "relaxation, freedom, inspiration" and the surroundings would certainly provide this for most people, especially the infinity pool and the nearby beaches.

Recently the Sarojin's started offering Elephant Safari Packages which include airport transfers, accommodation, breakfast and half-day treks into the rainforests of Khao Lak. The ride takes guests through jungle scenery and to high waterfalls fromt he comfort of the back of an elephant. Okay, maybe more a bumpy ride than comfortable, but you get back to the comfort of the resort afterwards.

Jumping the Shark Has Never Been So Inspirational

Even though Lost jumped the shark last season, we still tune in now and again to get a peek at some luscious South Pacific scenery. We already told you that last week, Jack's flashback took him to Thailand, which looked absolutely delicious. (Ok, we admit, the sultry tattoo artist played by Bai Ling helped sex up the scenes.)

A simple, carefree, shabby beach-front cabana that Jack loved so much could be found at the Relax Bay Resort whose Killer View we showed here last week as well. But since most of Phuket is surrounded by hotels and resorts, you could find this type of ideal Thai getaway in several places. Personally, if we were surgeons with inner demons to confront, we'd book at Mom Tri's Boathouse.

Sure, it's a far cry from a backpacker's delight, but we're ok with that. The big, well-furnished rooms are right on the beach, and have minibars, free snacks, free WiFi and A/C. The hotel also houses a top-notch restaurant and wine cellar. You'll have to find your own dinner date--just don't ask her for a tattoo.

Room With A Killer View: Andaman Sea View, Bai Ling Not Included

We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

Relax Bay Beach Resort

Sticking with the Ko Lanta theme...

This place offers gorgeous little bungalows right on the beach in Ko Lanta for around $100 a night. Sounds a lot like Jack's Thai digs on Lost last night, but we doubt Bai Ling will crawl on top of you at night if you stay here. On the bright side, you probably won't get beat up by the locals for getting a sacred mark. Either way you will be afforded an amazing sunset view in these beachfront bungalows.
