When in Rome, Do as Josh Flagg Does and Stay at Hotel Eden
Our resident celebrity hotel hopper, Josh Flagg is about to invade your living rooms again when the fifth season of Million Dollar Listing premieres on Bravo on June 6. But life isn't all "house" work for Josh. As soon as filming finished, he packed up and resumed his whirlwind travels. Here's where he prefers to stay in Rome.
I must have stayed in Rome at least a half dozen times over the course of my short-lived life, however i have never really found an extraordinary hotel. The Hassler was nice...fifteen years ago. The St Regis is beautiful...if you don't mind using a flashlight when going out at night.
But I've now found a new favorite--Hotel Eden, a Le Meridien Hotel.
A block from Via Condoti and a block from Via Veneto, it is in the perfect location. The hotel exudes luxury and just the right amount of charm. The views are extraordinary and the staff is extremely nice and not snooty like at most of the other five star hotels in Rome. If I had my own star-rating system, I'd give the hotel five stars but the views, six stars.
Heading to Rome this summer and want to take up Josh's recommendation? The Hotel Eden's rates start at around 400 Euros a night. If you stay there, let us know how it went!

What's That Formula One Car Doing In The W Barcelona's Lobby?

No, the W Barcelona hasn't turned into one of those European shopping malls with cars being raffled off by pretty women in tight dresses. The answer is pretty simple, actually: Starwood is gearing up to announce a new partnership to sponsor the Mercedes-Petronas Formula One team, and just in time for the press conference tomorrow, an actual formula one race car has been put on display in the lobby, for guests to admire.
We're used to just seeing cool art, a cocktail bar, and maybe some of that weird signature W grass in lobbies. But a race car? That'll do nicely!

So You Want To Experience New York's Real Chinatown? 3 Hotels In Flushing, Queens

If you are any kind of food snob at all, you already know that New York's best dim sum, hand-pulled noodles, crispy whole duck and bubble tea are found not in Manhattan's Chinatown, but nine miles east of Times Square, in Flushing, Queens.
So, you already know that. Good. But do you know how to turn your NYC visit into a mock Chinese "staycation"? Your wallet (and your stomach) will thank you after you book a room at one of these three affordable Queens hotels, all of them just a twenty minute subway ride from Times Square, and a fifteen minute cab ride from LaGuardia Airport.
The sign outside Best Western Queens Court (above) proves this isn't just any old Best Western. In addition to the rooms and free WiFi, the lobby has its own Chinese restaurant, Liang's Kitchen, an offshoot of a popular Southern California-based chain that specializes in Taiwanese dishes. Rates here start at around $140/night.

W, Westin and St Regis All Coming, At Once, To Dubai In 2017

What's missing from this picture?
If you've thought to yourself recently, 'Gee, Dubai sure is a great place to visit, but boy, would it be even better if they opened a W, Westin and St Regis there too!' then we're here to tell you your prayers have been answered. Starwood announced today that it will do just that, after signing an agreement with Al Habtoor Group (the same conglomerate responsible for the city's upcoming Waldorf-Astoria resort, and a few of its own hotels too).
All three hotels will get built onto the same, giant complex (a one million square-foot property, in case you were wondering), and the total room count will be 1,675. This on top of the fifteen other hotels that Starwood already operates in Dubai, including Le Meridien, Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton. But, we suppose, there's always room for a few more...

To Find Out What The Sheratons Of The Future Will Look Like, Head To Edinburgh

She's a grand old dame, and she's still full of swagger.
We've known for a while that Starwood has been spending a ton of money upgrading all of the properties under its most iconic brand, Sheraton. $6 billion, to be exact. Now, with the centerpiece of that renovation project completed, we're starting to get a sense of where the brand is heading.
Starwood is telling everyone to pay attention to the Sheraton Grand Edinburgh's new look, as it will become the "blueprint" for all future Sheraton hotels to come. In fact, Starwood Senior VP Michael Wale told Scotsman: "The Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh will definitely become the flagship for the brand and will act as a template for what the brand will look like."
Ooh, lucky Edinburgh!

Another Element Will Balance Out The New Jersey Hotel Scene in 2014

The only news we hear from New Jersey these days is Atlantic City buzz. Or, more specifically, buzz about Revel and snippets on how other AC hotels are dealing with the new competition.
But Starwood is reminding us today that New Jersey is also a perfectly nice place to stay when you're looking for a quiet, efficient, clean hotel near Manhattan but not actually located in the belly of the beast. Element, which already has a hotel in Ewing, near Princeton, has announced it will open a second NJ hotel in the suburb of Harrison, which lies between Jersey City and Newark—a less than 30 minute train ride to central Manhattan.

Don't Cry If You Have Trouble Finding The Secret Art At W Paris

The W Paris Opera made its grand debut exactly two months ago, and boy! how the time flies. Just when we were thinking it might be worth checking in on them again to see if rates had gone down (they haven't), we came across this awesome-sounding art installation in one of the hotel's suites.
Coolhunting reports that the series, which is found only in suite 112, is the work of French artist Zevs, who covered the walls in dripping Louis Vuitton logos and drew tears streaming down the faces in portraits. What's even cooler, the ink used for the markings is only visible with a black light, so the art itself doesn't truly come alive until it gets illuminated by the right kind of light.

Would You Stay At A Hybrid Sheraton Westin Resort In the Changbai Mountains?

A suite at Westin Changbaishan...or is it the Sheraton?*
Apparently skiing is becoming a big thing in China. We got sent a report explaining that the number of skiers per year has actually risen from a meager 200,000 in 2000 to well over 5 million in 2005. Meaning the ski trend in China right now may be about as hot as the sheep hotel thing going on in Japan.
So it kind of makes sense that, for its first-ever dual-branded resort, Starwood has chosen to open up a giant ski resort complex in the Changbai Mountains that will house both a Sheraton and a Westin hotel. The Changbaishan resort will have a total of 553 rooms (split pretty much evenly between both hotels), and both properties will open their doors in August. Ready to book a trip? Our question is: how do you plan on deciding which one to stay at?

Cool, Calm, Classy Inside The W Union Square's New Guest Rooms

W Union Square has a new look, and we're kinda diggin it. Just a few months after debuting that new basement bar Lilium, the hotel has now revealed a new look for all 270 guest rooms.
Right off the bat, we're liking this simpler, brighter feel. It kind of reminds us of a five year old boy's playroom with all the blues and geometric shapes on the headboard, but we can't deny that this is an improvement on the stuffy, cluttered look from before. Especially that white lamp to the left of the bed, which almost makes us think of Mondrian Soho, one of New York's more popular contemporary design hotels.
Though, being housed inside a Beaux Arts building from 1911, there's only so much you can do to make the W Union Square look "cutting-edge." But it seems to be doing a good job toeing the line.

Be Part Of the Ben Folds Five Reunion At A Starwood Hotel

Any true Ben Folds Five fans will have already heard the news (which Mr. Folds announced himself via Twitter in January), but for the rest of you: the Ben Folds Five will be making their first album since 1999. And one of the places they'll be re-uniting onstage? The Westin Times Square.
We know what you're thinking...but before you go scratching your heads about why they would pick such a random concert venue for their reunion tour, know that this gig is actually part of a new live music program being launched by Starwood hotels all over the world. Titled "On Tour with SPG: Hear the Music, See the World," the promotion consists of notable bands either performing in, DJing at, or attending parties inside Starwood hotels—all for the enjoyment of (incredibly spoiled) SPG members.

How Can You Make The Most Of SPG's New Culinary Benefits?

Starwood just launched a brand new culinary program for SPG members that provides discounts at over 500 restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as other perks like online cooking classes taught by Starwood chefs. Just in time for the launch, Starwood built a brand new SPG Restaurants & Bars website, on which guests can type in the name of the city they're traveling to and find out what discounts they're eligible for.
But, as with any major points program, not all hotels are created equal. So we did a little digging to find out just which cities are offering the biggest bang for your buck.

3 Places To Stay During Brooklyn's Cherry Blossom Season

Spring has sprung in New York, thank goodness. And if you take a look at the CherryWatch map on the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's website, you'll see that quite a few cherry blossom trees have already begun exploding in the area. Meaning—anyone considering a trip to New York to enjoy the city at its most beautiful should act fast.
Here are a few (affordable) places that still have availability during cherry blossom season, which culminates in a Japanese culture festival, Sakura Matsuri, next month (April 28-29)...
Between Portlandia screenings at the w xyz bar, and hosting hip bands for the "video surveillance" live music series, Aloft Brooklyn certainly has settled into the scene nicely since opening last summer. Rates here stick around $240/night, and, considering the hotel is only a few subway stops from Prospect Park, traveling back and forth to the gardens should be a breeze.
