You Can Now Earn SPG Points Just By Ordering an Uber

February 25, 2015 at 7:46 PM | by | ()

We've seen hotels partner with the taxi-on-demand service that is Uber, usually in the form of a room package with an Uber credit. Hyatt Hotels went a bit further by allowing guests to order Ubers to and from their Hyatt hotels within the Hyatt app. But now, Starwood Hotels has trumped them all.

Starwood Preferred Guests members can now earn 1 Starpoint for every dollar spent with Uber. You'll also earn more points if you use Uber during an SPG stay. Gold and Platinum members will earn even more.

This sounds ideal, especially if you're a big city kind of kid/business traveler who relies on Uber to get around, although the linking up of Uber and SPG accounts is not seamless.

SPG Unveils Line-Up for Its 'Hear the Music, See the World' Concert Series

April 4, 2014 at 3:06 PM | by | ()

Once again, Starwood Preferred Guest and Live Nation have teamed up for a series of intimate music concerts called, Hear the Music, See the World. And the key word here is intimate. Not something you usually think of when Live Nation is involved but that's just another perk of being an SPG member.

Nine acoustic performances by top artists will be happening at Starwood-owned properties around the world, from New York to China, starting on June 5 with Mayer-Hawthorne in Toronto at the The Element Vaughan Southwest. Peep the rest of the schedule below (hello Janelle, Jason Mraz and Jewel!) and head on over to SPG to book.

Just know, you have to be an SPG Member to attend one of the concerts. You can redeem Starpoints for tickets as well as bid on VIP experiences like meet and greets with the artists (those start around 5,000 points.) .

Which Le Méridien Hotel Tickles Your Fancy The Most?

March 12, 2014 at 5:32 PM | by | ()

The Le Mérdien Bora Bora

Now that we've all finished Andazming, it's time to focus on the cultural hotel brand that is Le Méridien Hotels.

This art-centric Starwood Hotel has been coming out of its shell in recent months, picking up a few new properties here and there. And they aren't stopping. Last week, Le Méridien announced they will be opening 11 new hotels over the next 12 months, which will triple its portfolio in the Americas since the French-born brand was acquired by Starwood in 2005.

Here's where Le Méridien will plant their flag over the next year: Tampa (inside a century-old Federal Courthouse); Bangladesh; Chicago-Oakbrook Center; Bangkok; Charlotte; Gujarat, India; Mahabaleshwar, India; Indianapolis; New Orleans (formerly a W, will undergo a $29 mil renovation); Thimphu, Bhutan and Qingdao, China.

All of these hotels will feature the Le Méridien Hub, a lobby/social gathering space and the UNLOCK ART program along with the new Master Barista program.

But where is your favorite Le Méridien hotel today? Clearly, some Le Méridiens are better than others but we want to know which ones. So help us out by sharing your experiences with us. And SPG-ers, we know you know the dirt so don't hold back!

Sound off on Le Meridien hotels in Le Comments below!

Now You Can Get More from Your Vegas Vacation with SPG and Caesars' Total Rewards

December 18, 2013 at 12:45 PM | by | ()

Aside from redeeming and earning SPG points at the Westin Casaurina just off the Strip or at the Element Las Vegas way out in the Vegas burbs, there hasn't been much opportunity for Starwood Preferred Guests to make the most of their Vegas Vacation. Until now.

Yesterday, SPG and Caesars' Entertainment's players club program, Total Rewards, announced a new partnership that will give program members "the ability to both earn and redeem Starpoints and Reward Credits when staying at participating Starwood or Caesars Entertainment hotels."

This is tre similar to the sharing program launched over the summer by Hyatt Hotels and MGM Resorts. The SPG-Total Rewards program will officially launch on January 9 but you can sign up at spg.com/caesars or totalrewards.com/spg in the meantime.

The key word here though is "participating." Right now, about 1,100 Starwood properties are participating. That's most of Starwood's portfolio but it does leaves out about a few hundred hotels. Just FYI.

Below is the nitty gritty of what the program entails including point redemptions and the types of SPG Moments that you can purchase in Vegas. (HELLO, BRITNEY!!!)

Westin Phoenix Downtown Will Open March 10, Probably

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 333 N. Central Ave. [map], Phoenix, AZ, United States, 85004
March 3, 2011 at 12:07 PM | by | ()

If you're looking to celebrate can't-come-soon-enough spring, you could do it at the brand-spankin'-new Westin Phoenix Downtown, which will open next week, sort of.

Although the hotel's set for a March 10 opening, reservations are currently only being accepted starting March 17. When we called to ask whether that meant the hotel wasn't opening until then, we were told that no, they are pretty sure it'll open March 10 - but just to be certain, they aren't taking reservations yet. Although, the nice man said, within a couple of days, they should open up the 10th for booking. All being well. Let's hope they do, else someone's gonna have an empty hotel for the first week!

Anyways, rooms on March 17 officially start at $199 a night, but if you use the code "FMOPEN" when booking online, all of the rooms will cost $179, even those that originally cost more than $199 a night. Hotel loyalty points alert: If you stay there between March 25 and April 30, you'll earn double Starwood Preferred Guests Starpoints.

Loyalty Program News :: A Lofty Bonus for Staying at Aloft

June 5, 2008 at 12:33 PM | by | ()

Now that aloft hotels have officially opened, Starwood is offering members of the Starwood Preferred Guests Program a serious reward for booking with Aloft now through December 31st:

SPG members can earn an unprecedented 8 Starpoints for every U.S. dollar spent (quadruple the base earning) when they register and then book and stay at any Aloft hotel worldwide. Gold and Platinum members will continue to earn one additional bonus point based on their elite status bringing their earning to an incredible nine Starpoints for every U.S. dollar spent.

Some perspective: SPG members usually earn two points for every dollar spent at participating Starwood properties, so this is big. Points can be redeemed at 860+ hotels worldwide (with no blackout dates!), converted into miles on 30 airlines or used to bid on fun stuff from the SPG Moments program. Guests can register here.

The next Aloft to open is going to be the Aloft Rogers-Bentonville which starts accepting guests on July 3rd.

In continuing with our Loyalty Program Guide we just stumbled across this offer from Starwood Preferred Guests program encouraging new members to stay at a Four Points.

Why? Because you can earn up to 4,000 points. According to this latest promotion:

Just stay four nights at any Four Points by Sheraton hotel worldwide now through November 18, 2007 and receive 4,000 Starpoints®.

If you're already an SPG members you can also register online to take advantage of the offer. That's pretty cool. We just wish we had four nights to kill at a Four Points somewhere.
